Chinese civilization is the only ancient civilization thriving to this day seems to be a common view in the historical academia and Chinese society as well. Culture is a way that human beings actively adapt to the surroundings and keep consistence with environmental change. All cultures created by human beings are changing, so is the Chinese culture. The physical and cultural evolution presented by the archaeological discoveries and related historical researches show that Chinese culture is multi-sourced and multicultural. This is the secret for the Chinese culture to retain its vitality. The reasons that Chinese civilization is the only civilization thriving to this day among all of ancient civilizations in the world include the ancestral worship, the identity to common ancestors, traditions of writing pedigrees and history books, the longhistory Chinese character system and the creative thinking and cultural methods of interpreting new thoughts by using traditional Chinese thinking and cultural structures. Especially in modern times, impacted by the nationalism trend, the national state narration built for meeting the requirement of the national state"historical memory"left us the strong impression of Chinese civilization being the only continued civilization and fostered the affective identification with the common history. 展开更多

"Proto-state" and "chiefdom" are two major theories used in exploring the origin of Chinese civilization. There is much debate about the relationship between the two and about their academic significance. In several respects, the questions answered by the two theories are distinctly different: the perspective of the one is emic, of the other etic, and their research paths are respectively humanistic and scientific. The chiefdom theory derives from anthropology;it is evolutionist and its theories are constructed by analogy. Its strong point lies in exploring the mechanisms of the development of social complexity, but when used in archaeological research, the logic employed is deductive reasoning. The protostate theory comes from Chinese archaeology, and thus is historicist. Its strong point lies in understanding cultural meanings, and the research logic it employed is inductive reasoning. The two theories represent research paths that are complementary but not interchangeable. The purpose of exploring the origins of Chinese civilization is not only to find the truth of history, but also to understand and inherit its culture. Therefore, it is important to fully combine the two theories in building the discourse system of Chinese archaeology. 展开更多

The Chinese civilization is a highly developed,long-standing and comprehensive entity, materially, spiritually and institutionally created by the Chinese nation.Around 6000 BC,Early China in the cultural sense bears its root, marking the first stage of the origin of Chinese civilization.Around 4000 BC,Early China in the cultural sense formally takes shape, marking the second stage of the origin of Chinese civilization.Around 3100 BC,with the emergence of Chinese civilization, the stage of the Archaic State begins.Around 2100 BC,Early China enters the stage of the Dynastic State.Chinese civilization, with its universalistic cosmology and united structure,is of a unique"Tianxia(all under heaven)civilization"pattern. The"Tianxia civilization"patern, together with other cultural genes such as ritualism, ancestral worship, sincerity, benevolence, and coexistence of all in harmony,is the root cause for the continuous development of Chinese civilization to date. 展开更多

In order to promote the exchange of Chinese culture with foreign countries, translators bear an important mission in the process of cross-cultural communication.Although there are cultural differences,we can achieve cultural dissemination and exchange through continuous cultural dialogue. As an important way for foreign scholars to understand the history of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties in China, the translation of historical texts is crucial.Multiple typical cases are selected under the guidance of the translation theory of compensation to use relevant methods or techniques from the three levels of language, culture, and aesthetics to compensate for the loss of Li Xueqin’s The Origin of Ancient Chinese Civilization in English translation proofreading. 展开更多

Human beings are the mainstay and the ultimate goal of civilization. The history of human civilization is a continuous struggle to realize the respect, liberation, protection, and development of humanity.Human rights are an achievement of humanity and a symbol of progress, and the human rights civilization is an important component of human civilization.Understanding and interpreting human rights from the perspective of human rights civilization means that human rights are not only a concept or an idea but also a grand historical and long-term social practice.Up to now,the development of human rights civilization has roughly experienced four awakening eras:initialization, revolution, popularization, and globalization. In terms of its value dimensions,it has the characteristics of progressiveness, diversity, commonality, inclusiveness, indivisibility, openness, and so on.The historical position of human rights civilization and the development of its value dimensions have shown to the world that human rights are the common wealth of humanity, and human rights belong to all mankind;human rights are historical, concrete, and developmental;the concept of human rights is constantly evolving, and its connotations and categories are constantly expanding;achieving the free and well-rounded development of every person is the highest value realm of human rights civilization. The Chinese modernization endows Chinese civilization with modern strength and opens up new horizons for human rights civilization. The new pattern of human rights civilization to be created by Chinese modernization not only possesses the common characteristics of human rights civilization but also enjoys Chinese characteristics based on its own national conditions, enriching and developing the diversity of human rights civilization for all mankind. 展开更多

Silk is a unique token of ancient Chinese Civilization that is not owned by any of the other three ancient civilizations of the world. It originated in China, synchronized with the start of the entire Chinese Civilization and germinated in various areas as early as the Neolithic period. Sichuan, the known "Land of Abundance" gifted with unrivalled natural and cultural resources, used to be one of the cradles where the Chinese silk culture originated and evolved, and a key hub for the Silk Road in history. Ever since the Han and Tang Dynasties, Sichuan brocade, Sichuan embroidery, Sichuan cloth, lacquerware, Qiong bamboo rod, as well as other specialties from Sichuan have found their way into the trades along the Silk Road, earning Sichuan an especially distinctive reputation. Today, with the cultural communication and cooperation made by the Belt and Road Initiative, Sichuan will also play its due part in promoting mutual learning between countries. 展开更多

The main colors of the Forbidden City are Red and Yellow, which can represent rich cultural deposits.According to the Chinese traditional culture, the Red of the Forbidden City has always been regarded as a positive color of celebration, conveying dignity and happiness. The Yellow color is usually considered as a promising color, and represents a bumper harvest.Based on the principle of the Five Elements,Fire is red, which means breeding and encouragement, and shows prosperity and a solid foundation for the country.Yellow represents Winged Dragon, belonging to the Center of the Earth, and symbolizes the divine right of emperors. Therefore, the color of the Forbidden City(see Figure 1)is of great significance to the development of history and the revival of culture. We still need to work determinedly for the protection of the cultural heritages,so that more people can have the opportunity to understand the brilliance of Chinese civilization. 展开更多

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between mental health literacy(MHL)and workplace well-being(WWB)of Chinese grassroots civil servants, with regulatory emotional self-efficacy(RESE)and resilience as mediating variables.A questionnaire survey was conducted among Chinese grassroots civil servants, with a valid sample size of 2673 after excluding missing values and conducting relevant data processing. The PROCESS was used to examine the relationship between MHL,RESE,resilience, and WWB.The study found that MHL among grassroots civil servants was positively and significantly correlated with WWB(r=0.73,p<0.01).RESE partially mediated the relationship between MHL and WWB(β=0.25,95%CI[0.22,0.28]).Resilience partially mediated the relationship between MHL and WWB(β=0.22,95%CI[0.19,0.26]).MHL had a positive effect on WWB through the chain mediating effect of RESE and resilience(β=0.05,95%CI[0.03,0.07]).There is a close relationship between MHL and WWB,where Chinese grassroots civil servants with higher levels of MHL can develop stronger RESE and resilience, leading to higher WWB.The results of this study remind organizational institutions of Chinese grassroots civil servants that enhancing MHL,RESE,and resilience is an important pathway to promoting their WWB. 展开更多

The pursuit of economic efficiency is the major driver for the birth of contemporary Chinese civil law.Contemporary civil law scholarship has demonstrated a serious concern for efficiency from the very beginning. However, many examples suggest that the notion of economic efficiency is often diluted or replaced by factors like civil law doctrinal scholasticism, moral notions, inertial thinking of the planned economy or the will of the leader. It has not been systematically attended to or expressed in a detailed and precise way in the contemporary civil law scholarship in China, rendering some economic judgments uneconomical. In the 21 st century,it is necessary for the civil law studies to establish a clearer and more precise notion of efficiency,to conduct more direct and accurate evaluations on civil laws’incentives on people’s behaviors and their socio-economic effects,so as to reduce the cost of social interactions and promote deeper cooperation and winwin outcome among individuals. 展开更多

As an important accomplishment of self-governance exploration for the Chinese nation, the Chinese legal system has contributed significantly to human rule-of-law civilization, and should be reinterpreted from three dimensions:historical tradition, prevailing practice, and future development.Following the constant logic of rule-of-law development in China,Chinese rule-of-law modernization marks a new era of the Chinese legal system and is a specific embodiment of Chinese modernization in the domain of rule of law.The Communist Party of China(CPC)has explored the China’s socialist rule-of-law practice with Chinese characteristics, carried forward the essence of fine Chinese rule-of-law culture, and learned from others’important rule of-law achievements, modernizing the rule of law for the needs of China.Furthermore,XI Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law,adapting to the times to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, understands and grasps the basic laws of national governance, the laws of socialist rule-of-law building and the principles of law-based humane civilization development. The Chinese legal system has thereby been revised and expanded through linking history with reality, the international scene with the domestic one,and theory with practice.Surely, the updated Chinese legal system with China characteristics and with world significance will return to global centre-stage in rule-of-law development. Also, the updated Chinese legal system in the new era will embrace the revival of Chinese rule-of-law civilization, while the Chinese rule-of-law modernization will advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. 展开更多

On May 10, 1950, 147 men were abducted by the KMT army on its way to Taiwan. Since a majority of the men were already married, overnight, their wives became "widows," and most would remain so for the rest of their lives. Consequently, Tongbo village became more widely known as Widow Village. The first objective of this paper is to document the tragic experiences of men and women in Tongbo village, focusing on these forced separations in 1950, the possibility of reunion after 1987, and the struggle to cope with the difficulties in between. The second objective of this paper is to argue that while heartbreaking, the experiences of this village are not extraordinary in the context of the Chinese Civil War. What made the men and women in Tongbo extraordinary is not their collective suffering, but how these villagers suffered less, not more, than in many other places, because of the actions of three key figures. 展开更多
