Since the founding of the People's Republic of China,especially after reform and opening up,the Communist Party of China has continuously advanced the Sinicization and modernization of Marxist political economy.Through the great practice of economic construction with Chinese characteristics,a socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics has been formed.As the latest theoretical achievement of Marxist political economy in contemporary China and the 21st-century world,Xi Jinping's economic thought deeply reflects the Communist Party of China's new understanding of the laws of economic development.With more pronounced subjectivity,originality,completeness,and theoretical richness,it not only provides a scientific guide for China's high-quality economic development and the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist country but also propels the socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics to a new stage,contributing Chinese wisdom to the innovative development of Marxist political economy.

Conceptual Metaphors in Chinese Political Speeches——A Case Study of Xi Jinping's 2016 New Year Address

As a sort of cognitive means and thinking mode,conceptual metaphor is widely applied to political discourses.Statesmen often publicize their political thoughts by using conceptual metaphors in their political discourses so that the audience can understand their political ideas easily.Based on the Conceptual Metaphor Theory,this paper aims to analyze the conceptual metaphors in Xi Jinping's 2016 New Year address so as to summarize the types,functions and significance of conceptual metaphors in Chinese political discourses,in the hope of helping readers interpret political speeches better.

Research on the Contribution of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Promoting the Construction of the Chengdu- Chongqing Economic Circle

The influence applied by the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC)in promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle cannot be ignored.At present,the Sichuan Committee of CPPCC and Chongqing Committee of CPPCC are actively participating in the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle by building collaborative platforms,conducting joint consultations,and holding consultations on special issues.From three aspects,namely the unique advantages of the CPPCC,the fact that full consultation between CPPCCs in different regions is conducive to coordinating the interests of local governments of the same level,and that fact that it is also conducive to promoting inter-governmental cooperation,this article elaborates on the necessity of the contribution of the CPPCC in promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and discusses four paths for the CPPCC’s promotion of the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle:Strengthening the Communist Party of China’s leadership over the political consultation work of the CPPCC,using the CPPCC to consolidate the consensus of“a Sichuan-Chongqing close family,”innovating the form,content,and objects of democratic supervision,and building the information exchange mechanisms between the CPPCCs of Sichuan and Chongqing.

Thirty Years of Political Science in China： From Learning from the West to Indigenization

The article reviews the development of political science in China in the last century, especially in the last 30 years. It shows that the discipline has gone through two stages, namely, uncritical learning and gullible emulating. It is entering a new stage： conscious indigenization of political science. It argues that indigenization is not an easy task even for indigenous academics. Therefore a project of indigenization requires a conscious and active effort on their part. Without critical introspection, indigenization is impossible.

At the Nexus of New Challenges： China＇s Leadership Change and Cross-Strait Relations

China＇s 2012 leadership change revealed signs of factional divide at the top level. The elitist/princeling faction has outnumbered the populist faction. Princelings have better and stronger ties with the military, which tends to have a more hawkish view regarding any potential Taiwan independence. In Taiwan, changing social experiences have created a new Taiwan Residents identity, which is dif- ferent from that of the Chinese. People in Taiwan are increasingly thinking of themselves as Taiwan Residents instead of Chinese. On the mainland, Chinese popular nationalism has been on the rise, as anti-Taiwan independence remains one of the most nationalistic issues. When the forces of new identity and nationalism meet each other, a diverging path regarding the future of Taiwan is being created. Moreover, China＇s economic and military power continues to rise, giving China more confidence. I argue that the overall effect is that China＇s new leadership will increasingly have the capability to act tougher against any potential Taiwan Residents independence. The potential need to act tougher with Taiwan may be beyond the desire and control of Chinese elites due to the rise of popular nationalism in China and the leadership＇s need to maintain internal legitimacy and survival.

Turnover of Local Government Officials and Local Air Quality

This paper constructs a fixed effect model to study the impact of turnover of local government officials on local air quality,and the mechanism through which this effect takes place,using data from 282 prefecture-level cities in China from 2015 to 2019.This research shows that turnover of local government officials led to a decline in local air quality,mainly due to a“responsibility gap period.”It also found that the heterogeneity of officials and the difference in the implementation of political initiatives by cities affected the length of the“responsibility gap period”-the shorter it was,the lower the air pollution was during official turnover.Air pollution in China is still severe and the Chinese central government should therefore further reform the turnover system to improve local air quality during the turnover of key local officials by shortening the“responsibility gap period.”

Breakthroughs on Fundamental Issues of Socialist Political Economy in China's Economic Reform

How to effectively integrate the basic economic system of the primary stage of socialism in which public ownership is the dominant and diverse economic sectors develop side by side with a resource allocation model in which the market plays a decisive role is a fundamental issue in building a socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics.Western bourgeois economics and the traditional understanding of Marxist classical writers reject the possibility of such integration.In the transitional countries of Central and Eastern Europe,the practice and theoretical exploration of combining the two ended by abandoning public ownership.The fundamental feature of socialist economic reform practice with Chinese characteristics is to uphold their organic unity.This approach has already achieved great progress but at the same time is confronting a series of new problems.
