Quantitative Identification of Delamination Damage in Composite Structure Based on Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors and Model Updating

Delamination is a prevalent type of damage in composite laminate structures.Its accumulation degrades structural performance and threatens the safety and integrity of aircraft.This study presents a method for the quantitative identification of delamination identification in composite materials,leveraging distributed optical fiber sensors and a model updating approach.Initially,a numerical analysis is performed to establish a parameterized finite element model of the composite plate.Then,this model subsequently generates a database of strain responses corresponding to damage of varying sizes and locations.The radial basis function neural network surrogate model is then constructed based on the numerical simulation results and strain responses captured from the distributed fiber optic sensors.Finally,a multi-island genetic algorithm is employed for global optimization to identify the size and location of the damage.The efficacy of the proposed method is validated through numerical examples and experiment studies,examining the correlations between damage location,damage size,and strain responses.The findings confirm that the model updating technique,in conjunction with distributed fiber optic sensors,can precisely identify delamination in composite structures. 展开更多

This paper reports on the design,fabrication,and temperature strain sensing performance of a fiber Bragg grating composite structure for surface mounted temperature measurements over a wide temperature range,with highly reduced strain cross-sensitivity.The fiber Bragg grating sensor is encapsulated in a polyimide tube filled with epoxy resin,forming an arc-shaped cavity.This assembly is then placed between two layers of glass fiber prepreg with a flexible pad in between and cured into shape.Experimental results,supported by finite element simulations,demonstrate an enhanced temperature sensitivity is 26.3 pm/°C over a wide temperature range of–30°C to 70°C,and high strain transfer isolation of about 99.65%. 展开更多

X-ray diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer, elemental analyzer, tensile-testing machine and high-temperature differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) are used to characterize the individual microstructure, chemical structure, elemental content, mechanical properties and thermal properties. It is found that high-quality PAN fibers have high density, lower titre, higher or adequate tensile strength, and they also have better conglomeration structure, smaller crystal dimension with dispersive distribution, less microvoids and flaws. 展开更多

According to the characters of poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) plastic, the spinnerets with three kinds of different structure were designed. The effects of spinneret structure on the melt spinning conditions, melt flow instability of the screw extrusion, and the performance of PEEK fibers were studied. The results show that the appropriate screw extrusion temperature is 370 385℃. The PEEK fibers extruded using the spinnerets with L/D=6, 8holes and 0.5mm in diameter have better performances. The performances of PEEK fibers are related to the dia- meter of the spinneret hole. Increasing the L/D value of the spinnerets can not always improve the surface quality and the performances of PEEK fibers. The extrusion pressure is about 50% of that of the spinneret with 12holes and 0.3mm in diameter. 展开更多

Polybutylene succinate(PBS)fiber is a kind of synthetic fibers with excellent properties and biodegradability,which has been produced on a large scale in China.To investigate the application properties of PBS fibers,the structure and properties were systematically studied in this paper.The microstructures and thermal properties of PBS fibers were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermo gravimetric(TG)and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).The mechanical properties,chemical stability and dyeing properties of PBS fibers were also studied.The results show that PBS fibers areα-crystalline with a crystallinity of 58.56%.PBS fibers have an excellent thermal stability and the initial temperature of thermal degradation is 370℃.The tensile strength,the elongation at break,the elastic recovery rate at a fixed elongation(5%)and the moisture regain rate of PBS fibers are 29.57 cN/tex,90.94%,44.55%and 5.04%,respectively.The chemical stability is as follows:alkali resistance<acid resistance<oxidation resistance.PBS fibers have an excellent dye uptake by carrier dyeing of disperse dyes. 展开更多

The oxidized bamboo pulp fiber yarns were prepared by the HNO3?/H3PO4-NaNO2 oxidation system. The effects of the oxidation concentration and reaction time on the weight loss, the carboxyl content and the breaking strength of the bamboo pulp fiber yarns were studied and the aggregation structure was investigated by Fourier transform infrared, X-ray and scanning electron microscopy. The results revealed an increase in carboxyl content and a decrease in breaking strength of oxidized bamboo pulp fiber yarns with increasing concentration of oxidant and reaction time. The breaking strength of oxidized bamboo fiber yarns was damaged seriously once the reaction time was more than 120 min or the concentration of oxidant was greater than 1.0%. The crystallinity of bamboo pulp fibers increased slightly under low oxidation degree but decreased with higher oxidation degree. 展开更多

By studying the key parameters of the fiber dosage, the spray layer thickness, and the fiber reinforced concrete injection time, etc. It is found that the ideal volume ratio of polypropylene (crude) fiber is 0.8% (V/V), and the secondary lining fiber concrete spraying should start when the shrinkage rate is lower than 0.5 mm/d, and the optimal thickness of shotcrete is 120 mm. The supporting effects and the economic benefits were studied using a real project practice, and the result obtained can be a good reference for practical applications of this new supporting material in the future. 展开更多

It is believed that gel spun polyethylene(PE)fibers have a somewhat extended chain crystalstructure,because of the disentangling of the chains which takes place in semi-dilute solutionand the ultra high draw ratio used.Ten years ago,PE shish-kebabs grown from dilute solutionwere proved to have extended chain backbone which causes the raising of its melting point.These crystals were found to have a triclinic crystal phase,This study shows a different result forgel spun ultra high drawn PE fiber.The unit cell remains orthorhombic even if the draw ratioreaches 50;as the draw ratio increases,the length in a and b axes are shortened while that in c ax-is changes quite insignificantly.When the draw ratio is over 10,two endothermic melting peakscan be seen in the DSC curves with corresponding peak temperature of 136.7-145.3℃.The lat-ter peak is attributed to the amount of extended chain crystal. 展开更多

The results show that the suitable spinning speed for preparing of HMLS fibers is 2 000 ~ 2 800 m/min. With the increase of the spinning speed, the density, crystallinity, and birefringence of the initial fibers increase obviously, but the shrinkage ratio decreases rapidly. The relationship between property and structure of poly( p-phenylene terephthalamide)( PPTA) was investigated for the purpose of obtaining products with better performance. PPTA fiber subjected to heat treatment under different conditions was intensively studied. Simultaneous wide-angle X-ray diffraction( WAXD) technique was introduced to study the changes of crystal structure. It was found that the tensile modulus was strongly sensitive to the levels of temperature and tension. The structure parameters including crystal size and crystal orientation after heat treatment evolve similarly to the tensile modulus,indicating a direct structure-property relationship. The lattic c-dimension increases after heat treatment and is greatly affected by the tension. An optimal temperature can be found around 400 ℃,where big change can happen in the crystal structure due to α-relaxation in the crystal region as supported in dynamic mechanical analysis( DMA). 展开更多

The immobilized photocatalyst, TiO2 film supported on activated carbon fibers (TiO2/ACFs) prepared with molecular adsorption-deposition (MAD), exhibits high stability in cyclic photodegradation runs. The interposition fixing structure between TiO2 film and carbon fiber was investigated by means of SEM-EDX, XRD, XPS and FTIR, and a model was proposed to explain this structure. With SEM examination of carbon fiber surface after removing the deposited TiO2 film, a residual TiO2 super-thin film was found to exist still. By determining surface groups on ACFs, titanium sulfate (Ti2(SO4)3) in burnt remainders of the TiO2/ACFs was thought to be formed with an interfacial reaction between TiO2 film and carbon fibers. These provide some evidence of firm attachment of TiO2 film to carbon fiber surface. In the consideration of characteristics of the MAD, the deposition mechanism of TiO2 film on ACFs was proposed, and the interposition fixing structure was inferred to intercrossedly form between TiO2 film and ACFs’ surface. Alkali treatment can change the structures and properties of cellulosic fibers. The aim of this work was to study the mechanism of structure changes of Tencel fibers treated with different alkali concentration and two treatment methods. Raman spectrum showed that the molecular conformation of Tencel fibers remained unchanged. XRD (X-ray diffraction) indicated that the crystallinty of Tencel fibers in original length increased while that of fibers in relaxation condition remained unchanged. The average crystallite size increased and the orientation index decreased. The quasi-crystallite disassociation and recrystallization in the quasi-crystalline phase during the process of alkali treatment lead to the changes of the crystallinity and the orientation index of Tencel fibers. 展开更多

The relationship between the graft yield and the effect of hexafiuorobutyl methacrylate graft treatment on the structural changes of the silk fibers was studied on the basis of the results of scanning electron micrograph photographs (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (IR), Raman spectrum, wide-angle X-ray diffraction patterns (WAXD), nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) and amion acid analysis. The results showed that the crystalline regions of grafted fibers were hardly affected and the fiber fission occurred on the cross sections of grafted fibers. The surface of fibers was covered with a high polymer film. The Raman spectrum showed there was little change in the conformation of grafted fibers which mainly remained β-sheet conformation. The IR of the grafted silk fibers showed new absorption of bands occurred which belonged to the stretching-vibrationabsorption-peak bands of Vo-o and VC-F of aliphatic ester species. The CF3-, -CF2- and -CFH- grafted silk macromodecul were verified in the NMR spectrum. The amion acid analysis indicated fluoride monomers were inclined to graft with TYR, ARG and CLU silk fibers. 展开更多

[Method] Taken 4 kinds of Palmae plants in Nanning including Ravenea fivulafis, Washingtonia filifera, Phoenix canafiensis, Roystonea regia (HBK.)O. F. Cook as materials, damage situation of the red palm fiber elephant was investigated, microstructure of leaf sheath epidermis and nutrient composition of palm plants were analyzed and determined. [ Result] The results showed that there was direct correlation between the microstructure of leaf sheath epidermis and nutrient composition with the physical resistance of palm plant against red palm fiber elephant. The extend of damage from red palm fiber elephant had negatively relation with the thickness of corneum and leaf epidermis. The damage degree caused by red palm fiber elephant increased with the content of crude protein, crude ash and nitrogen free extract increasing, also increased with the content of rude fiber decreasing. [Condusion] The damage degree of red palm fiber elephant had a relationship with microstructure of leaf sheath epidermis and nutrient composition of palm plants. 展开更多

Novel 2×2 torsion-mirror optical switch arrays are fabricated by using the mixed micromachining based on the surface and bulk silicon microelectronics,then are investigated electromechanically in applied direct and alternating electric fields.When the thickness of the elastic torsion beams suspending the aluminum coated polysilicon micro-mirrors of the switches in the arrays is about 1μm,the electrostatic yielding voltages for driving the mirrors to achieve their ON-state are in the range of 270~290V,and the minimum holding voltages for mirrors ON-state are found as 55V or so.Theoretical analysis manifests that the yielding voltage is more sensitive to beam thickness than other design parameters do about the torsion-mirror switch structures.The lifetime can reach 10 8 times.The estimated shortest switching time of the switches at least lasts for less than 2ms.The force analysis on the two kinds of new fiber self-holding structures integrated monolithically in the chip of the optical switch arrays indicates that the structures can feature self-fixing and self-aligning of optical fibers. 展开更多

The results indicate that the large pore volume decreases by 57. 8% - 51.2% and by 87. 1% ... Mercury intrusion porosimetry was used to measure the pore structure of steel fiber reinforced polymer-cement-based composite. The results indicate that the large pore volume decreases by 57. 8% - 51.2% and by 87. 1% - 88% with the addition of steel fibers and polymers respectively. When both steel fibers and polymers are simultaneously added, the large pore volume decreases by 88.3% - 90.1% . As a surface active material , polymer has a favorable water-reduced and forming-film effect, which is contributed to the decrease of the thickness of water film and the improvement of the conglutination between the fibers and the matrix. Polymers could form a microstructure network. This network structure and the bone structure of cement hydration products penetrate each other and thus the interpenetrating network with sticky aggregate and steel fiber inside forms. 展开更多
