All the diagnosis were confirmed by pathologic examination. There were 5485 cases (69.62%) of malignant tumors. Nearly an half of malignant tumors were in the nasopharynx (49.32%). Among the malignant tumors of the nasopharynx, 2698 were carcinoma (99.34%) and only 18 (0.66%) sarcoma. Nine of them were under 10 years of age, the youngest patient was 3 years old, and this is rare in our county. The incidence of head and neck tumors was 37.66% and that of the head and neck malignancies was 26.22% of tumors in the whole body. This study indicates that incidence of malignant tumor in head and neck was rather higher, it is worth to improve ths procedure of treatment and prevention.展开更多

The objective of this article is to present our experience in developing a local ele...Objectives: An Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery clinic is an integral part of any modern tertiary center outpatient department. The objective of this article is to present our experience in developing a local electronic Makkah Otolaryngology—Head and Neck DATABASE (MO-HND) and provide a roadmap for the development of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery clinics in other tertiary centers. Methods: This is a prospective audit of all patients attending our clinic over 3 months period (July to September 2014). The data were recorded using our MO-HND. Results: A total of 1178 patients were included. The mean age was 27.7 ± 6.7 years. Participants included 586 males (49.7%) and 592 females (50.3%). There were 1139 (96.6%) Saudi and 39 (3.4%) non-Saudi patients. The specialist clinic undertook most of the workload (66%). The majority of surgery bookings (94%) were carried out through a consultant clinic. Of all participants, 80% were diagnosed with general ENT conditions, 21% underwent a procedure in the clinic, and 29% required further investigations. The surgical conversion rate was 16.3%. Conclusion: Electronic DATABASES have become important tools for improving medical services. Primary and secondary level medical centers and hospitals should increase their role in alleviating pressure from tertiary and quaternary level hospitals. In turn, a model concentrated on subspecialty clinics and services should be developed.展开更多

We describe fourteen patients who underwent implant removal after failed radi...Purpose: Failure after radial head arthroplasty is uncommon, but clinically significant. Treatment for failure may involve implant removal. We describe fourteen patients who underwent implant removal after failed radial head arthroplasty. Methods: A retrospective review was performed to determine the cause of failure and clinical data were prospectively collected. Results: At mean follow up of 38 months the mean VAS for pain score was 3.0 and the mean DASH score was 40.5. The mean MEPS was 69. All patients demonstrated improved elbow range of motion. Mean elbow flexion at final follow up was 124°to an average extension deficit of 25°. Fifty percent of patients exhibited clinical symptoms of cubital tunnel syndrome. Three patients required additional surgery after implant removal. Conclusions: Implant removal for failed radial head arthroplasty improves range of motion and demonstrates acceptable outcomes at intermediate-term follow up. However, 50% of patients developed cubital tunnel syndrome and 21% required revision surgery.展开更多
