It is proper designed for electric and hybrid powertrain system. With this design, the clutch engagement is controlled by current in electrornagnet coil. For special characteristic of dual diaphragm spring, the clutch does not consume energy in steady state after engaging or disengaging. These evolutions lead to an increase of the thermal solicitations undergone by the automotive clutches whereas their weight must be decreased, as it is one of the main influent factors on CO2 emissions. Previous studies only focused on the air flow created by the clutches, but none of them have shown the impact of the clutch housing on the cooling of the clutch parts. In order to determine the influence of the clutch housing on the thermal behavior of automotive clutch systems, a numerical study has been performed on a simplified model of a clutch system. A parametric variation has been performed on the clutch housing size in order to evaluate its impact on the flow and the thermal behavior of clutches. The results show that clutch housing has a significant impact on the air flow and the thermal behavior of clutches. Thermal tests on real clutches with and without clutch housing have confirmed these results.展开更多

A nonlinear dynamic model of an electro-hydraulic clutch shift control system is presented. The mechanical and fluid subsystems of all valves are investigated, including their interactions. Model validation of the electro-hydraulic valve system is performed by comparing the simulated and measured pressure curves. The dynamic characteristics of the electro-hydraulic clutch shift control system with different supply pressures and different fluid temperatures are simulated and evaluated. It is found that pipes which are often ignored between the electro-hydraulic valve system and the clutch piston, have strong influence on clutch piston chamber pressures. Methodology Ten subjects (6 women,4 men; mean age 25.4 years) participated in the study. The mandibular move-ment,sagittal condylar inclination angle, and transversal condylar inclination angle of each subject were recorded with the CADIAX? using the two clutches, respectively. The characteristics of the tracings of the protrusion, opening, and mediotrusion were analyzed with the t-test statistics at α = 0.05 level. The Kappa values were calculated for an assessment of the congruence of the tracings. Results The results showed that the contour, direction, and dimension of the tracings in the two clutches were approxi-mately same, but the tracings determined by the functional occlusal clutch were more regular and congruent. In the group segment recorded with the tray clutch,opening/ closing paths of one subject showed crossed and time curves of three subjects appeared peak-like changes of velocity, but none were statistically different (P0.05). Conclusion The research suggests that the functional occlusal clutch should be preferred in the evaluation of the mandibular function,as the tracings with the tray clutch are more likely to produce false positive results.展开更多

Methods At three different input rotating speeds, when the strength of applied electric field was changed, the output rotating speeds were recorded and analyzed. Results By comparing the results got under different experimental procedures with those measured with an electro-rheometer, it can be seen that the shearing rate has tremendous influence on the speed modulating of a fan clutch. This is because the disperse phase can't form chains (clusters)easily at high shear rate. Conclusion The result tested on the present ER fluid demonstrates that this fluid will show the properties of Newton one,i.e. its apparent viscosity is constant. as the shear rate increases.展开更多

The flow of the oil film in clutch clearance is investigated. A three-dimension Navier-Stokes(N-S) equation based on laminar flow is presented to model the drag torque. Pressure and speed distribution in radial and circumferential directions are deduced. The theoretical analysis reveals that oil flow acceleration in radial direction caused by centrifugal force is the key reason for the shrinking of oil film as constant feeding flow rate. The peak drag torque occurs at the beginning of oil film shrinking. A variable is introduced to describe effective oil film area and drag torque after oil film shrinking is well evaluated with the variable. Under the working condition, tests were made to obtain drag torque curves at different clutch speed and oil viscosity. The tests confirm that simulation results agree with test data. The model performs well in the prediction of drag torque and lays a theoretical foundation to reduce it.展开更多
