Coal has been the main energy source in China for a long period.Therefore,the energy industry must improve coal power generation efficiency and achieve near-zero CO_(2) emissions.Integrated gasification fuel cell(IGFC...Coal has been the main energy source in China for a long period.Therefore,the energy industry must improve coal power generation efficiency and achieve near-zero CO_(2) emissions.Integrated gasification fuel cell(IGFC)systems that combine coal gasification and high-temperature fuel cells,such as solid oxide fuel cells or molten carbonate fuel cells(MCFCs),are proving to be promising for efficient and clean power generation,compared with traditional coal-fired power plants.In 2017,with the support of National Key R&D Program of China,a consortium led by the China Energy Group and including 12 institutions was formed to develop the advanced IGFC technology with near-zero CO_(2) emissions.The objectives of this project include understanding the performance of an IGFC power generation system under different operating conditions,designing master system principles for engineering optimization,developing key technologies and intellectual property portfolios,setting up supply chains for key materials and equipment,and operating the first megawatt IGFC demonstration system with near-zero CO_(2) emission,in early 2022.In this paper,the main developments and projections pertaining to the IGFC project are highlighted.展开更多
Fuel cells electrochemically convert chemical energy in fuels into electrical energy(and heat)and so can produce power efficiently with low environmental impact.Applications of fuel cells include stationary power gene...Fuel cells electrochemically convert chemical energy in fuels into electrical energy(and heat)and so can produce power efficiently with low environmental impact.Applications of fuel cells include stationary power generation,distributed combined heat and power(CHP)and portable power.Recently,research has been conducted on direct carbon fuel cell(DCFC)technology that converts the chemical energy in solid carbon directly into electricity.This article discusses these technologies and their development status.For small-to medium-sized stationary power systems and CHP,the USA ranks first for fuel cell capacity and Japan leads for delivery systems.South Korea is home to the world’s largest fuel cell power plant:the 59-MW Gyeonggi Green Energy park in Hwasung City.Deployment of fuel cell systems is driven by support from governments in the form of tax credits and other incentives.For large stationary power generation,current interest is in integrating a coal gasification process with high-temperature fuel cells(IGFC)to create ultra-high-efficiency,low-emissions power generation systems.The first IGFC demonstration plant with CCS may be in Japan in 2021 as a result of the CoolGen project.DCFC is still in its infancy and far from demonstration.The overall challenges for stationary fuel cells are cost and cell durability.Experience gained from research,designing,building and operating commercially available systems and the IGFC demonstration plant should lead to further development of the technologies and reduced costs,making them a realistic option for power generation.展开更多

The results indicate that the 80% coal in China is suitable to produce the fue1 used in the fuel cell by the method of coal gasification. Then this paper is intended to analysis the possibility of utilization and development of tlle coal fired fuel cell power plant in China, that is composed of the molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) and the gas produced by the coal gasification technology. And an MCFC ST (steam turbine) combined generating system was designed, in which the coal gasification is used as the fuel. Its total generating efficiency is about 60%, more than that of the coal fired power plant.展开更多
