YSZ/(Ni, Al) composite coatings with different Ni:Al mole ratios were deposited on superalloy Inconel 600 by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) technique, followed by sintering in CH_4 atmosphere at 1 100 ℃for 2 h ...YSZ/(Ni, Al) composite coatings with different Ni:Al mole ratios were deposited on superalloy Inconel 600 by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) technique, followed by sintering in CH_4 atmosphere at 1 100 ℃for 2 h and isothermally oxidation at 1000 ℃ for 50 h. After sintering at 1100 ℃ for 2 h in CH_4 atmosphere, besides ZrC and t-ZrO_2 phases, the phase constitutes of Ni:Al mole ratios with 1:3, 1:2, and 1:1 were(Zr, Al)C, AlNi_3 and Ni phases, respectively. A remarkable difference in the oxidation behaviors of YSZ/(Ni, Al) composite coatings with different Ni:Al mole ratios was observed. For YSZ(Ni:Al=1:3) coated sample, oxidation at 1000 ℃ causes decomposition of the(Zr,Al)C solid solution to metallic Al, and then most of the Al is oxidized to Al_2O_3. For the YSZ(Ni:Al=1:2) coated sample, oxidation at 1000 ℃ mainly causes decomposition of the AlNi_3 phase. For YSZ(Ni:Al=1:1) coated sample, after oxidation at 1000 ℃, most of the Ni is oxidized to Ni O phase, and tolerated 50 h of oxidation and finally cracked and spalled from the specimen. YSZ(Ni:Al=1:3) and YSZ(Ni:Al=1:2) coated samples show superior oxidation resistance than that of YSZ coating. The different oxidation resistance mechanisms of YSZ/(Ni, Al) composite coatings sintered in CH_4 atmosphere were discussed.展开更多

The phase composition of the mixed alloy powders and prepared coating were characterized by X-ray diffraction ( XRD ). The morphology and the composition cf the coating were analyzed by scanning eleetron microscopy (SEM) nnd energy dispersive apectroscopy ( EDS ). In addition, the thermal stability ef the coating with amorphous phases was characterized by differential thermal analyzer ( DTA ). Tile results showed that, usirtg mixed alloy powders with a molar ratio of Fe: P: C of 80:13:7, the coating containing certain amount of amorphous alloys was suceessathlly prepared through atmospheric plasma spray technique. The interesting hybrid properties of ceramics and metals induced by unique nano-laminated structures make the M_(n+1)AX n(MAX)phase attractive as a potential protective coating for vital structural compo-nents in hars...The interesting hybrid properties of ceramics and metals induced by unique nano-laminated structures make the M_(n+1)AX n(MAX)phase attractive as a potential protective coating for vital structural compo-nents in harsh systems.However,an extremely narrow phase-forming region makes it difficult to prepare MAX phase coatings with high purity,which is required to obtain coatings with high-temperature anti-oxidation capabilities.This work describes the dependence of the phase evolution in deposited M-Al-C(M=Ti,V,Cr)coatings as a function on temperature using in-situ X-ray diffraction analysis.Compared to V_(2)AlC and Cr_(2)AlC MAX phase coatings,the Ti_(2)AlC coating displayed a higher phase-forming tempera-ture accompanied by a lack of any intermediate phases before the appearance of the Ti_(2)AlC MAX phase.The results of the first-principle calculations correlated with the experience in which Ti_(2)AlC exhibited the largest formation energy and density of states.The effect of the phase compositions of these three MAX phase coatings on mechanical properties were also investigated using ex-situ Vickers and nano-indenter tests,demonstrating the improved mechanical properties with good stability at high temperatures.These findings provide a deeper understanding of the phase-forming mechanism of MAX phase coatings to guide the preparation of high-purity MAX phase coatings and the optimization of MAX phase coatings with expected intermediate phases such as Cr_(2)C,V_(2)C etc.,as well as their application as protective coat-ings in temperature-related harsh environments.展开更多
In view of the M_(n+1)AX_(n)(MAX)phase coatings benefting the adaptive passivation flm for good corrosion resistance and high electronic density of states for excellent electrical conductivity,here,we reported the Cr_...In view of the M_(n+1)AX_(n)(MAX)phase coatings benefting the adaptive passivation flm for good corrosion resistance and high electronic density of states for excellent electrical conductivity,here,we reported the Cr_(2)Al C MAX phase coatings with different preferred orientations by a homemade technique consisting of vacuum arc and magnetron sputtering.The dependence of surface and interface microstructural evolution upon the corrosion and electrochemical properties of deposited coating was focused.Results showed that all the Cr_(2)Al C coatings with different phase orientations greatly improved the performance of stainless steel(SS)316 L substrate.Specifcally,the lowest value of interface contact resistance(ICR)reached to 3.16 mΩcm^(2)and the lowest corrosion current density was 2×10^(-2)μA cm^(-2),which were much better than those of bare SS316L.The combined studies of electrochemical properties and theoretical calculations demonstrated that the Cr_(2)Al C coatings with preferred(103)orientation were easier to form oxide passivation flm on their surface to increase the corrosion resistance.展开更多

The effects of activators on the coating of diamond were firstly investigated and diamond grinding wheels were then prepared from Ni-coated diamond composite powders with different activators. The microstructural characterizations of this composite powders were finally conducted by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction, and the mechanical and tribological properties of as-prepared diamond grinding wheels were also measured. There are changes in microstructures and properties of the composite powders with activators. The activator concentration also has an influence on the morphologies and phase structures of the Ni coating on diamond particles.The composite powders with more compact coating of nickel can be prepared by adding 1 g dm^(-3) or more AgNO_3 as an activator to electrodeposit nickel on diamond. The mechanical and tribological properties of diamond grinding wheels were significantly improved when the coating phase structure of Ni crystal grew with(111) plane orientation on the surface of diamond particles. The wheels made from nickel coated diamond composite powders possessed the advantages of easy preparation and outstanding tribological properties. Therefore, Ni coated diamond composite powders exhibit a great potential to be extensively applied in diamond cutting and grinding tools.展开更多
