[Methods] The complete Freund's adjuvant( CFA)-induced AA model of rats was used. The therapeutic effect of K. coccinea on AA rats was evaluated by the articular swelling, arthritis score, immune organ index and hematoxylin-eosin( HE) staining. The content of inflammatory factors TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-1β in the serum of AA rats was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA) respectively. [Results]Compared with the model group, the total extract of K. coccinea( KCTE) could significantly inhibit the primary and secondary articular swelling of AA rats, lower the arthritis score and immune organ index, and improve the pathological state of ankles of AA rats. In the groups with a high and middle dosage of KCTE( KCTE-H and KCTE-M),KCTE could significantly reduce the content of TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum of rats, exhibiting a certain dose-effect relationship. [Conclusions]KCTE had significant therapeutic effect on the AA of rats, and the mechanism might be associated with the modulation of immune function and the decrease in the secretion of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6.展开更多

In this paper, we report the synthesis of nanostructured zinc oxide particles by biological method. Highly stable and spherical zinc oxide nanoparticles are produced by using zinc acetate and Ixora coccinea leaf extract. Formation of zinc oxide nanoparticles has been confirmed by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Dynamic light scattering analysis (DLS), zetapotential study and Scanning Electron Microscope with the Energy Dispersive X-ray studies (EDX). Dynamic light scattering analysis shows average particle size of 145.1 nm whereas high zeta potential value confirms the stability of formed zinc oxide nanoparticles. The Scanning Electron Microscope reveals spherical morphology of nanoparticles and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis confirms the formation of highly pure zinc oxide nanoparticles. The zinc oxide nanoparticles from Ixora coccinea leaves are expected to have applications in biomedical, cosmetic industries, biotechnology, sensors, medical, catalysis, optical device, coatings, drug delivery and water remediation, and also may be applied for electronic and magneto-electric devices. This new eco-friendly approach of synthesis is a novel, cheap, and convenient technique suitable for large scale commercial production.展开更多

To overcome the actual limitations, new strategies should be developed and phytotherapy represents a promising alternative. <em>Boerhavia coccinea</em> is a medicinal plant used for the treatment of pain. The present work was undertaken to evaluate the antinociceptive effects of crude aqueous extract of the leaves of <em>Boerhavia coccinea</em> (AE) on acute pain and examine its mechanism of action. The analgesic effect of AE was evaluated at doses 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg using the formalin-induced nociception in mice. The specific analgesic effect of AE was verified by testing its effect of AE on the sleep induced by diazepam. The anti-inflammatory effects of AE were also tested <em>in vivo</em> (100 and 200 mg/kg) on CFA-induced inflammation and in vitro (1 to 300 <em>μ</em>g/ml) on the production of NO by non-activated or activated (LPS, 1 <em>μ</em>g/l) macrophages. The effect of AE in non-stimulated macrophages was evaluated in absence and in presence of L-NAME (100 <em>μ</em>g/ml) or dexathetasone (30 <em>μ</em>g/ml). AE administered orally significantly (<em>p</em> < 0.001) inhibited both neurogenic and inflammatory phases of the formalin pain with a maximum inhibition percentage of 81% at the 1st phase and 90% at the 2nd phase, but did not show any anti-inflammatory effect. AE at 50 mg/kg increased the latency to sleep and reduced sleep duration. AE drastically (<em>p</em> < 0.001) increased the NO production by non-activated or activated macrophages by up to 5654%. L-NAME and dexamethasone potentiated the activation effect of AE on NO production. In conclusion, AE possess potent antinociceptive effect that is not related to any anti-inflammatory activity. Instead, this extract increases the nitric oxide production by an unknown mechanism.展开更多

It is essential to overcome this problem by the development of new drugs. Marine organisms as corals, sponges, seaweeds, and other are an incredible source of novel pharmacologically active compounds. Herein, the antimicrobial activity (extract/fractions) of the invasive stony coralTubastraea coccinea was evaluated by the disk diffusion method against 21 microbial strains (ATCC and clinical strains). Micro broth dilution was used to determinate the MIC of the fractions that showed antimicrobial activity by the disk diffusion method. Bioautography assay was also performed. Our results showed that the n-butanol (BF) and aqueous fractions (AF) showed activity against ATCC strains Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 31.25 and 250 μg/mL),Salmonella typhimurium (MIC 125 and 500 μg/mL), Escherichia coli (MIC 62.5 and 500 μg/mL) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC 62.5 and 500 μg/mL), respectively. Moreover, BF fraction was also effective against the clinical strains S. aureus(MIC 62.5 μg/mL), Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase—KPC (MIC 125 μg/mL), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus—MRSA (MIC 125 μg/mL) and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecalis—VRE (MIC 62.5 μg/mL). The ratio MBC/MIC reinforces the bactericidal profile of BF fraction. The bioautography assay of BF fraction showed the presence of antimicrobial components at Rf0.55.展开更多

Jacks (MEOC) using animal models of nociception and inflammation. The antinociceptive activity of the extract was assessed using acetic acid-induced abdominal writhing, hot-plate, and formalin tests. Oral administration of MEOC (500 mg/kg) produced significant (t7 〈 0.05) antinociceptive effects when tested in mice using acetic acid-induced abdominal writhing test and on the inflammatory phase of the formalin test. It was also demonstrated that MEOC had no significant effect on the response latency time to the heat stimulus in the thermal model of the hot plate test. The anti-inflammatory activity of the extract was assessed using carrageenan, histamine and serotonin induced oedema in rat paw. The oral administration of MEOC showed maximum inhibition (64.29%) at 1 h on carrageenan edema, but it did not modify the edema induced by histamine and serotonin. The present results suggest that MEOC has a peripheral antinoeiceptive and anti-inflammatory action.展开更多

Our results showed that the n-butanol (BF) and aqueous fractions (AF) showed activity against ATCC strains Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 31.25 and 250 μg/mL),Salmonella typhimurium (MIC 125 and 500 μg/mL), Escherichia coli (MIC 62.5 and 500 μg/mL) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC 62.5 and 500 μg/mL), respectively. Moreover, BF fraction was also effective against the clinical strains S. aureus(MIC 62.5 μg/mL), Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase—KPC (MIC 125 μg/mL), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus—MRSA (MIC 125 μg/mL) and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecalis—VRE (MIC 62.5 μg/mL). The ratio MBC/MIC reinforces the bactericidal profile of BF fraction. The bioautography assay of BF fraction showed the presence of antimicrobial components at Rf0.55.
文摘The present study was conducted to evaluate the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of methanol extract of rachis of Ormosia coccinea (Aubl.) Jacks (MEOC) using animal models of nociception and inflammation. The present results suggest that MEOC has a peripheral antinoeiceptive and anti-inflammatory action.

文摘AIM: To study the chemical constituents of the roots and stem bark of Kadsura coccinea. METHOD: Compounds were isolated by column chromatography on silica gel and Sephadex LH-20, and finally purified by prep-HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods, including 1D- and 2D-NMR, and HR-ESI-MS. RESULTS: Two compounds were determined as(7′S,8′S,8R)-(8β,8′α)- dimethyl-4,4′-dihydroxy-5,3′-dimethoxy-5′-cyclolignan glucoside(1) and micrandiactone H(2), respectively. CONCLUSION: Compunds 1 and 2 are new and neither showed inhibitory effects on nitric oxide(NO) production in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW264.7 macrophages.
