Many studies have focused on horizontal ground motion, resulting in many coherency functions for horizontal ground motion while neglecting related problems arising from vertical ground motion. However, seismic events have demonstrated that the vertical components of ground motion sometimes govern the ultimate failure of structures. In this paper, a vertical coherency function model of spatial ground motion is proposed based on the Hao model and SMART 1 array records, and the validity of the model is demonstrated. The vertical coherency function model of spatial ground motion is also compared with the horizontal coherency function model, indicating that neither model exhibits isotropic characteristics. The value of the vertical coherency function has little correlation with that of the horizontal coherency function. However, the coherence of the vertical ground motion between a pair of stations decreases with their projection distance and the frequency of the ground motion. When the projection distance in the wave direction is greater than 800 meters, the coherency between the two points can be neglected. 展开更多

The eftects of various types of waves on vertical plane turbulent jets are studied numerically in the paper. A ttn'ee- dimensional numerical model in a-coordinate is developed to study these problems by use of large eddy simulation method. Turbulence is modeled by a dynamic coherent eddy model. Numerical results including the distribution of veloci- ty, the decay law of the mean velocity along axis, the turbulent Reynolds stresses and the volume flux per unit width without wave, in the first-order Stokes waves, in the second-order Stokes waves, in the fifth-order Stokes waves, in the solitary waves and in random waves are compared and analyzed. A focus on coherent structures, probability density func- tions and correlation functions of jets is also investigated. The numerical results are of great theoretical importance for un- derstanding jet turbulent behaviors in different types of waves. 展开更多

In this paper, a new spatial coherence model of seismic ground motions is proposed by a fitting procedure. The analytical expressions of modal combination (correlation) coefficients of structural response are developed for multi-support seismic excitations. The coefficients from both the numerical integration and analytical solutions are compared to verify the accuracy of the solutions. It is shown that the analytical expressions of numerical modal combination coefficients are of high accuracy. The results of random responses of an example bridge show that the analytical modal combination coefficients developed in this paper are accurate enough to meet the requirements needed in practice. In addition, the computational efficiency of the analytical solutions of the modal combination coefficients is demonstrated by the response computation of the example bridge. It is found that the time required for the structural response analysis by using the analytical modal combination coefficients is less than 1/20 of that using numerical integral methods. 展开更多

The effect of random waves on vertical plane turbulent jets is studied numerically and the mechanism behind the interaction of the jet and waves is analyzed. The large eddy simulation method is used and the σ-coordinate system is adopted. Turbulence is modeled by a dynamic coherent eddy model. The σ-coordinate transformation is introduced to map the irregular physical domain with a wavy free surface and an uneven bottom onto a regular computational domain. The fractional step method is used to solve the filtered Navier–Stokes equations. Results presented include the distribution of velocity, the decay law of the mean velocity along the jet axis, self-similar characteristics and volume flux per unit width. In particular, the role of coherent structures on the momentum transfer along the jet centerline and the jet instantaneous characteristics in JONSWAP waves are a special focus of this research. The numerical results obtained are of great theoretical importance in understanding the behavior of turbulent jets in random wave environments. 展开更多

The energy spectra of three types of two-dimensional potentials(we will call them‘Davidson-like potentials’(DLPs)),characterized by four minima separated by barriers, are investigated. The predictions for spectra and wave functions are obtained by using the nine-point finite-difference method. For these potentials, with the existence of a single configuration,a transition of spectra,as a function of barrier height,is covered from tunneling splitting modes to fluctuations phenomena, with equal peaks wave functions, crossing to the spectra of purely anharmonic oscillator potentials(AOPs).A different type of phase transition occurs when two(or more)configurations coexist. With the change of the parameters,a transition of spectra is covered from coexistence phenomena of two distinct quantum tunneling modes to fluctuations phenomena, with unequal peaks wave functions, crossing to the spectra of purely AOPs.Using DLPs,a particular application of the coherent quadropole-octupole model to describe energy bands with alternating parity of the nuclei^(100)Mo,^(146,148)Nd,^(148,150)Sm,^(220)Ra,^(220,222)Rn,and^(220,222)Th is presented. The global parametrization of the model for the selected nuclei is achieved. 展开更多
