Strategies for Adoption of Circular Economy in the Nigeria Construction Industry

The concept of circular economy has gained recognition as a way to manage waste and conserve resources sustainably,and has the potential to transform the construction industry.This is particularly relevant in the construction industry due to the significant amounts of waste generated during the construction and demolition process.This study examines the perceived importance and effectiveness of strategies related to the circular economy in the construction industry.The data were collected through a survey administered to professionals in the construction sector,capturing their perceptions of various strategies.The results reveal that most strategies received high mean ratings,indicating their perceived significance.Strategies such as waste management and recycling facilities,design for disassembly,and prioritising the use of renewable and sustainable materials were highly valued by the respondents.Additionally,statistical analyses confirmed the significance of these strategies.However,some strategies received comparatively lower ratings,suggesting the need for further attention and improvement.The findings have important implications for policymakers,industry professionals,and stakeholders,guiding decision-making and resource allocation.By prioritising and implementing the identified strategies,stakeholders can drive the adoption of circular economy principles,enhance resource efficiency,and reduce waste in construction practices.Furthermore,this study lays the foundation for future research,highlighting the importance of exploring barriers to implementation,understanding synergies and trade-offs among strategies,conducting longitudinal studies to assess long-term impact,and broadening the participant pool for a more comprehensive understanding.Overall,this study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the circular economy in the construction industry and provides valuable insights for promoting sustainability and circularity within the sector. 展开更多

The concept of a circular economy can be applied to different business fields.The development of the existing industrial cycles with an overemphasis on economic development and the twisting concept of a circular economy,has limited any substantial contribution of the circular economy to environmental resources.In some cases,resources are even being consumed to create resource recycling.This puts a greater burden on the environment.To gain an understanding of the actual value of a circular economy to the environment and resources,an“Essence Analysis Model”has been used in this study.This combines sustainable development issues in a multi-faceted and multi-leveled analysis of the industrial circular economy model to guide its development more directly towards fundamentals.An analysis of the results of the“Essence Analysis Model”was used to find and change the original strategy,and develop a means of improving the circular economy model.The results of the study make an essential contribution to the sustainable development of environmental resources and the reduction of greenhouse gas emission. 展开更多

Regarding primary raw materials as the indicators, the industrial system has been specified according to the divergence among the indicators and the circular utilization modes. In comparison with the association among industrial systems, the relationship among industrial sub-systems is named as industrial cross-linking in this paper. The industrial system which could completely utiLize and recycle the indicators shouM be increased and strengthened, and the circular economy industrial system with complete industrial association and industrial cross-linking should also be constructed. Taking the development of circular agricultural system basing on the traditional agricultural system as an example, the traditional agricultural products are regarded as the indicators which have been divided into foodstuff and crop straws which are used to produce food and articles for use, Like fertilizer, energy and papers etc. The way to construct the circular agricultural industrial system is to increase the industrial systems that could utilize the products generated from crop straws, feces and other castoffs and transform the wastewater and other trucks into environmental friendly products. It has also been pointed out that the construction of circular economy industrial system is conducive to the foundation of circular industrial economics and the establishment of the construction layout of circular economy and the application schemes. This paper examined the method to evaluate structural complexity of circular economy system's industrial chain, which applied entropy information and hierarchical metrics to produce complexity degrees according to the theory of complex system. We developed an evaluation model to make a general metrics for circular economy system of industrial chains. The development of the evaluation tree drew upon five factors to identify the structural complexity. The evaluation model generated unitive entropy information from six data definition (node, level of community, metabolic span, degree of node, number of relation and connectivity of node) according to the evaluation tree. The industrial chains of Tashan circular economy park of Datong Coal Mine Group and Gujiao circular economy park of Xishan Coal-Electricity Group were evaluated by the proposed method. The key factors stunted by the decline of structural complexity were identified and the unitive metrics of entropy information of the industrial chain was shown for realigning the circular economy systems. 展开更多

气化是解决工业有机固废高效清洁处置利用的重要技术,近年来被广泛使用,尤其在污染物减排和能源化再利用方面发挥着积极作用。通过维持还原性气氛实现气化反应,可将工业有机固废中的有机组分转化为高热值合成气。实施工业有机固废资源... 气化是解决工业有机固废高效清洁处置利用的重要技术,近年来被广泛使用,尤其在污染物减排和能源化再利用方面发挥着积极作用。通过维持还原性气氛实现气化反应,可将工业有机固废中的有机组分转化为高热值合成气。实施工业有机固废资源再生利用可以缓解对传统能源和化工原料的需求,有利于实现循环经济和可持续发展。从气化过程的影响因素、协同反应机制、产物预测等方面入手,着重综述了工艺参数、气化炉类型等对工业有机固废气化过程的影响规律,阐述了多元物料组分共气化过程中的协同作用机理。最后,梳理了近年来工业有机固废气化领域的研究重点,并提出了未来的研究方向,包括借助现代原位表征技术构建完整的协同反应路径,结合密度泛函理论解析共气化过程中的多反应耦合作用机制,利用机器学习优化工业有机固废气化的工艺参数,以及开展工业有机固废共气化的生命周期评价等。 展开更多

绿色环保产业兼具带动经济增长和应对环境问题的双重属性,“四链”深度融合是绿色环保产业实现高质量发展的重要支撑,是实现“双碳”目标的重要抓手。本文通过深度分析企业不同发展阶段“四链”融合特征,结合产业发展现状,发现在企业创... 绿色环保产业兼具带动经济增长和应对环境问题的双重属性,“四链”深度融合是绿色环保产业实现高质量发展的重要支撑,是实现“双碳”目标的重要抓手。本文通过深度分析企业不同发展阶段“四链”融合特征,结合产业发展现状,发现在企业创立初期,资金链是关键,创新链与人才链驱动,逐步形成产业链;在企业成长期,主要靠资金链驱动,人才链与创新链支持,拓展产业链;而对于成熟期的企业,可依据产业链进行战略布局,维持创新链。研究发现,绿色环保产业“四链”融合主要存在创新链与产业链衔接不紧密、资金链对各链的支撑度较弱、人才链与创新链和资金链融合度不够等问题。研究建议,制定低碳创新战略路线图,明确“四链”融合发展路径;提高创新链与产业链适配度;优化资金链,提高与各链融合度;完善人才链,注重人才培育;企业根据自身发展阶段,明确驱动链,保障“四链”有效融合。 展开更多
