The inside tube electrode is connected to ground, the outside tube electrode is connected to a high-voltage power supply, and a dielectric layer is covered on the outside tube electrode. When the reactor is operated by low-frequency (6 kHz-20 kHz) AC supply in atmospheric pressure and argon is steadily fed as a discharge gas through inside tube electrode, a cold plasma jet is blown out into air and the plasma gas temperature is only 25-30℃. The electric character of the discharge is studied by using digital real-time oscilloscope (TDS 200-Series), and the discharge is capacitive. The tests on sodium citrate mixed blood-droplet samples show that 1) The heat delivered by the CAAP has no impact on the observed clot formation, 2) Plasma effluent activates platelets to promote coagulation state and cascade, and 3) The degree of clotting increases with the OI flux delivered by the CAAP. The full clotting time is shortened from about 25 minutes of the natural clotting time to about 16 s of the CAAP treatment time. The tests on smeared blood samples show that the reduction of the platelet count and the increase of RBC count are proportional to the applied OI flux. In vivo tests, using swine as nimal model, swift hemostasis of large and deep cut wounds on the back by the CAAP treatment was demonstrated. A cut artery was sealed completely with 25 s treatment. The pressure applied by a finger on the cut artery could be removed immediately after the treatment and there was no re-bleed. Based on the in vitro test results and the animal model trials, CAAP coagulation mechanism is presented.展开更多

The influences of the plasma reduction time and calcination on the performance of the Au/P25-P catalysts were investigated. CO oxidation was performed to investigate the catalytic activity of the Au/P25 catalysts. The results show that DBD cold plasma for the fabrication of Au/P25-P catalysts is a fast process, and Au/P25-P (4 min) exhibited the highest CO oxidation activity due to the complete reduction of Au compounds and less consumption of oxygen vacancies. In order to form more oxygen vacancies active species, Au/P25-P was calcined to obtain Au/P25-PC catalysts. Interestingly, Au/P25- PC exhibited the highest activity for CO oxidation among the Au/P25 samples. The results of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that the smaller size and high distribution of Au nanoparticles are the mean reasons for a high performance of Au/P25-PC. Atmospheric- pressure DBD cold plasma was proved to be of great efficiency in preparing high performance supported Au catalysts.展开更多

The XRD and XPS analyses proved that Pd ions were reduced to partially crystallized metallic Pd nanoparticles in Pd/TiO2-P. The XPS spectra also indicated that an enhanced metal-support interaction was formed due to the existence of partially crystallized Pd nanoparticles with lower coordination number in Pd/TiO2-P. Photocatalytic activity of Pd/TiO2-P was much higher than that of TiO2 samples decorated with well crystallized Pd nanoparticles.展开更多

However, this may lead to the formation of powder instead of film on the substrate when using volume dielectric barrier discharge (volume-DBD) at atmospheric pressure. In this study, by adding N2 into the working gas Ar, TiO2 photocatalytic films were successfully fabricated in the presence of excess O2 (PO2/PTiC14 = 2.6) by using a wire-to-plate atmospheric-pressure volume-DBD. The tuning effect of N2 on the deposition of TiO2 film was studied in detail. The results showed that by increasing the N2 content, the deposition rate and particle size of the TiO2 film were reduced, and its photocatalytic activity was enhanced. The tuning mechanism of N2 is further discussed.展开更多

In this paper, the solid shielding effects of the cylindrical quartz tubes with different inner diameters on the characteristics of the CAP jets driven by a radio-frequency(RF) power supply are studied experimentally. The experimental results show that the total length of the shielded plasma jet can be increased significantly by an appropriate combination of the quartz tube inner diameter and that of the plasma generator nozzle exit with other parameters being unchanged. This phenomenon may be qualitatively attributed to the loss of diffusion of the charged particles in the radial direction under different inner diameters of the quartz tubes. Compared with the plasma free jet, the plasma shielding jet is produced with optimized parameters including longer plasma jet length, higher concentrations of chemically reactive species, higher rotational, vibrational, and electron excitation temperatures when the inner diameters of the solid shielding tube and the generator nozzle exit are the same. A maximum plasma jet length of 52.0 cm is obtained in contrast to that of 5.0 cm of the plasma free jet in this study. The experimental results indicate that the solid shielding effect provides a new method for the active control of the local environment of the RF-CAP jet operating in an open atmosphere.展开更多

The influences of the discharge voltage, IL and the amount of copper nitrite were investigated. X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption measurements and UV-Vis spectroscopy were adopted to characterize the samples. The results showed that the specific surface area of TiO2 was promoted with Cu-doping (from 57.6 m^2.g^-1 to 106.2 m^2.g^-1 with 3% Cu-doping), and the content of anatase was increased. Besides, the band gap energy of TiO~ with Cu-doping decreased according to the UV-Vis spec- troscopy test. The 3%Cu-IL-TiO2 samples showed the highest eificiency in degrading methylene blue (MB) dye solutions under simulated sunlight with an apparent rate constant of 0.0223 min-1, which was 1.2 times higher than that of non-doped samples. According to the characterization results, the reasons for the high photocatalytic activity were discussed.展开更多

The aim of this retrospective clinical study was to evaluate and compare the effects of CAP on acute wounds created by a fractional CO2 (FXCO2) laser on four treatment groups. Methods: This study was conducted between September 2017 and November 2018. Radiated surface wounds were created using a FXCO2 laser on four identically-sized regions on the medial side of the left forearm of 12 healthy volunteer subjects, for a total of 48 treatment regions. Each region was then randomly assigned to one of four groups: 1) no treatment (control group), 2) irradiated CAP for 60 seconds (plasma group), 3) topical application of ointment containing betamethasone valerate (steroid group), or 4) two to three sprays of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF group). The primary outcome of the skin was the change in absolute values of lightness index (L*), redness index (a*I) of L*a*b color space, arithmetical mean roughness (Ra), and mean melanin concentration. The secondary outcome was the clinical condition of the wounds, including inflammation, crust formation, and hyper/hypo-pigmentation on the recovering skin surface relative to the surrounding intact skin. Each item was evaluated at post-treatment 0, 1, 3, 7, 14, 28 days and 1 year. Results: Although no significant difference was observed among all groups, the CAP group exhibited more rapid recovery regarding a*I and Ra. No side-effects were observed in the CAP group. Conclusion: CAP is considered to accelerate healing of irradiated wounds via anti-inflammatory activity. Our study confirmed the effectiveness and safety of CAP which is devoid of side-effects of conventional therapies, and may aid in future development of medical plasma therapies.展开更多

The influences of conventional method, plasma method, and plasma plus calcination method on the catalytic activity were studied and the CO2 reforming of methane was chosen as the probe reaction. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and CO2 temperature-programmed surface reaction techniques. The results suggested that the nickel-based catalyst prepared by plasma plus calcination method possessed a smaller particle size and a higher dispersion of active component, better low-temperature activity and enhanced anti-coking ability. The conversion of CO2 and CH4 was 90.70% and 89.37%, respectively, and the reaction lasted for 36 h without obvious deactivation under 101.325 kPa and 750°C with CO2/CH4 = 1/1.展开更多

Cold plasma can selectively kill a variety of tumor cells, and its biological safety in clinical trials is also very important. In many cases, the patient’s immune level is relatively low, so we first studied the safety assessment of plasma treatment in an immunocompromised animal model. In this study, we examined the safety of immuno-deficient nude mice by oral lavage treatment of plasma-activated water, and studied the growth status, main organs and blood biochemical indexes. Acute toxicity test results showed that the maximum dose of plasma treatment for 15 min had no lethal effect and other acute toxicity. There were no significant changes in body weight and survival status of mice after 2 min and 4 min of plasma-activated water(PAW)treatment for 2 weeks. After treatment, the major organs, including heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney, were not significantly changed in organ coefficient and tissue structure. Blood biochemical markers showed that blood neutrophils and mononuclear cells were slightly increased, and the others remained unchanged. Liver function, renal function, electrolytes, glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism were not affected by different doses of PAW treatment. The above results indicate that PAW treatment can be used to treat immuno-deficient nude mice without significant safety problems.展开更多

Three stainless steel needles are symmetrically mounted on a slot shaped PVC slab to act as the elec- trodes. The brush driven by a direct current (DC) power supply can generate an air plasma glow up to 30 mm wide with no inert gas addition and no air flow supplement. The plasma glow appears uniform no matter what kinds of material are processed. The measured current and the simulated current all show that each pulsed discharge including two peaks always oc- curs for different gaps between electrodes. Emission spectra measurement result shows that the obtained rotational temperatures are 300 K and the vibrational temperatures are 2250 K. Some reactive species are presented in the plasma glow, which suggest that the proposed plasma brush is beneficial to practical applications.展开更多

During this work, experimental study of a low frequency, atmospheric plasma-jet discharge in nitrogen has been presented. The experimental operation of this device was conducted with commercially neon power supply. The discharge process operated by using nitrogen as input gas with different flow rates. The experimental results showed that the maximum plasma jet length of 7 mm was detected at 3 Kv input voltage corresponding to 14 l/min as a nitrogen flow rate. The effect of distance from nozzle, nitrogen flow rate and input voltage on the plasma temperature was examined. The gas temperature decreased continuously as the flow rate of nitrogen increasing from 2 l/min to 14 l/min at 3 Kv as a fixed input voltage.展开更多

文摘Cold atmospheric plasma(CAP)jet has wide applications in various fields including advanced materials synthesis and modifications, biomedicine, environmental protection and energy saving, etc.Appropriate control on the volume, temperature and chemically reactive species concentratio ns of the CAP jet is of great importance in actual applications. In this paper,an radio-frequency atmospheric-pressure glow discharge(RF-APGD)plasma generator with a hybrid cross-linear-field electrode configuration is proposed. The experimental results show that, with the aid of the copper mesh located at the downstream of the traditional co-axial-type plasma generator with a cross-field electrode configuration,a linear field between the inner powered electrode of the traditional plasma generator and the copper mesh can be established. This linerfield can,to some extent, enhance the discharges at the upstream of the copper mesh, resulting in small increments(all less than 12.5%)of the species emission intensities, electron excitation temperatures and gas temperatures by keeping other parameters being unchanged. And due to the intrinsic transparent and conducting features of the grounded copper mesh to the gas flowing, electric current and heat flux of the plasma plumes,a plasma region with higher concentrations of chemically reactive species and larger plasma plume diameters is obtained at the downstream of the grounded copper mesh on the same level of the gas temperature and electron excitation temperature compared to those of the plasma free jet.In addition, the charged particle number densities at the same downstream axial location of the grounded copper mesh decrease significantly compared to those of the plasma free jet. This means that the copper mesh is also,to some extent, helpful for separating the chemically reactive neutral species from the charged particles in side a plasma environment. The preceding results indicate that the cross-linear-field electrode configuration of the plasma generator is an effective approach for tuning the characteristics of the RF-APGD plasma jet in order to obtain an appropriate combination of the plasma jet properties with higher chemically reactive species concentrations, especially relative higher number densities of neutral species, larger plasma volumes and lower gas temperatures.

文摘The stimulatory effects of atmospheric pressure cold plasma(APCP)on plant growth have attracted much attention due to its great potential as a new approach to increase crop growth and production. However, the transcriptome changes of plants induced by APCP treatment are unknown.Herein, the comparative transcriptome analysis was performed to identify the transcriptional response of Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings to APCP.Results showed that APCP exhibited a dual effect(stimulation or inhibition)on Arabidopsis seedling growth dependent on the treatment time and the maximum stimulatory effects were achieved by 1 min APCP treatment. The metabolic analysis of amino acid, glutathione(GSH)and phytohormone demonstrated that 1 min APCP treatment decreased most amino acids concentrations in Arabidopsis seedling, while the accumulations of GSH,gibberellins and cytokinin were significantly increased. The RNA-Seq analysis showed that a total of218 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified in 1 min APCP-treated seedlings versus the control, including 20 up-regulated and 198 down-regulated genes. The DEGs were enriched in pathways related to GSH metabolism,mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling transduction and plant resistance against pathogens. Moreover, most of the DEGs were defense, stimuli or stressresponsive genes and encoded proteins with oxidoreductase activity.Expression determination of six randomly selected DEGs by quantitative real-time PCR demonstrated similar pattern with the RNASeq data. These results indicated that the moderate APCP treatment may regulate the expression of stimuli/stress-responsive genes involved in GSH,phytohormone/amino metabolism and plant defense against pathogens via MAPK signal transduction pathway, accordingly enhance Arabidopsis seedling growth. This study provides a theoretical basis for the application of APCP in agriculture.
文摘The efficacy and mechanism of a cold atmospheric-pressure air plasma (CAAP), which carries abundant atomic oxygen (OI), on blood coagulation are studied. Based on the in vitro test results and the animal model trials, CAAP coagulation mechanism is presented.

文摘The intention of this work is to remove Reactive Blue 198(RB-198)dye components from simulated water solution using cold atmospheric pressure argon plasma jet.Aqueous solutions of RB-198 dye were treated as a function of various operating parameters such as applied potential, reaction time and distance between the plasma jet and surface of the liquid. The efficiency of the degradation of RB-198 molecules was explored by means of UV-Vis spectroscopy. The reactive species involved during the treatment process were examined by optical emission spectra(OES).The present hydroxyl radicals(OH·radical)and hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)in the plasma-treated aqueous dye solutions were investigated using various spectroscopic techniques. The other parameters such as total organic carbon(TOC),conductivity and p H were also reviewed. The toxicity of plasma-treated RB-198 solution was finally studied by diffusion bacterial analysis and by tracking seed germination processes. The results show that a higher degradation percentage of99.27%was acquired for the RB-198 treated at higher reaction time and applied potential, and shorter distance between the plasma jet and water surface. This may be due to the formation of various reactive oxygen(OH·radical, atomic oxygen(O)and H2O2)and nitrogen species(nitric oxide(NO)radicals and N2 second positive system(N2 SPS))during the processes as confirmed by OES analysis and other spectroscopy analysis.TOC(17.7%-81.8%)and pH(7.5-3.4)values of the plasma-treated RB-198 decreased significantly with respect to various operation parameters, which indicates the decomposition of RB-198 molecules in the aqueous solution. Moreover, the conductivity of plasma-treated RB-198 aqueous solutions was found to have increased linearly during the plasma treatment due to the formation of various ionic species in aqueous solution. The toxicity analysis clearly exhibits the non-toxic behavior of plasma-treated RB-198 aqueous solution towards the bacterial growth and germination of seeds.

文摘Cold plasma generated by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) at atmospheric pressure was adopted for preparation of commercial TiO2 Degussa P25 supported Au catalysts (Au/P25- P) with the assistance of the deposition-precipitation procedure. Atmospheric- pressure DBD cold plasma was proved to be of great efficiency in preparing high performance supported Au catalysts.

文摘TiO2 decorated with partially crystallized Pd nanoparticles (Pd/TiO2-P) was successfully prepared by atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma. Photocatalytic activity of Pd/TiO2-P was much higher than that of TiO2 samples decorated with well crystallized Pd nanoparticles.

文摘To deposit TiO2 films through plasma CVD, the partial pressure ratio of O2 to TIC14 should be greater than the stoichiometric ratio (PO2/PTiCl4 〉 1). The tuning mechanism of N2 is further discussed.

文摘Active control of the local environment of the cold atmospheric plasma(CAP) jet is of great importance in actual applications since the CAP operates in an open atmosphere with the inevitable entrainment of the surrounding cold air. The experimental results indicate that the solid shielding effect provides a new method for the active control of the local environment of the RF-CAP jet operating in an open atmosphere.

文摘An atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) gas-liquid cold plasma was employed to synthesize Cu-doped TiO~ nanoparticles in an aqueous solution with the assistance of [C2MIM]BF4 ionic liquid (IL) and using air as the working gas. According to the characterization results, the reasons for the high photocatalytic activity were discussed.
文摘Cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAP) has been expected to be effective for wound healing among plasma medicines and has been attracting attention. Our study confirmed the effectiveness and safety of CAP which is devoid of side-effects of conventional therapies, and may aid in future development of medical plasma therapies.

文摘Androgenetic alopecia(AGA)is a chronic and progressive form of hair loss characterized by vascular degeneration in the perifollicular microenvironment, leading to cell apoptosis and eventual loss of hair follicles(HFs).Traditional therapeutic formulations, such as Minoxidil(MXD)tincture, have limitations in reshaping the perifollicular microenvironment and exhibit limited effectiveness. Here,we report a multi-synergistic therapeutic platform for high-performance hair regeneration therapy. The platform combines microneedle(MN)patches loaded with MXD-encapsulated nanostructured lipid carriers(MXD-NLC-MNs)and cold atmospheric plasma(CAP).The MNs’mechanical strength enables efficient transdermal delivery of MXD to the targeted dermal papilla cells, promoting cell proliferation.Furthermore,in collaboration with MXD,the mechanical stimulation exerted by MN application synergistically upregulates the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor, leading to neoangiogenesis.Meanwhile, the transient microchannels in the skin created by MNs facilitate the transdermal delivery of CAPgenerated nitric oxide(NO)to the sites of HF lesions, whereby the synergistic interaction between MXD and NO boosts perifollicular vasodilation.Consequently, the perifollicular microenvironment can be effectively reshaped to accelerate hair regeneration in AGA murine models. This multi-synergistic combination therapy strategy would hold great promise for effectively treating AGA and promoting hair regrowth.

文摘A new type of Ni/MgO catalyst was prepared using atmospheric high-frequency discharge cold plasma. The conversion of CO2 and CH4 was 90.70% and 89.37%, respectively, and the reaction lasted for 36 h without obvious deactivation under 101.325 kPa and 750°C with CO2/CH4 = 1/1.

文摘Cold atmospheric-pressure plasma is a new technology, widely used in many fields of biomedicine, especially in cancer treatment. The above results indicate that PAW treatment can be used to treat immuno-deficient nude mice without significant safety problems.

文摘This paper reports a cold atmospheric pressure DC-driven air plasma brush. Some reactive species are presented in the plasma glow, which suggest that the proposed plasma brush is beneficial to practical applications.

文摘Cold atmospheric plasmas(CAPs)have attracted considerable interest in the field of plasma medicine.Generated reactive species such as hydroxyl(OH)species play an important role in applications of CAPs.Transportation of OH species towards the target and distribution of these OH species in the plasma plume play an important role in the applications of plasma medicine. In the present work,a computational model was built to simulate the transportation and distribution of OH species in CAP discharges, which was based on the level set method to dynamically track the propagation of plasma carrier gas in air.A reaction term was incorporated for the OH species. The OH species tended to diffuse around the main stream of the carrier gas,and thus covered larger radial and axial distances.A CAP discharge onto a skin layer led to the largest accumulation of OH species at the central part of the exposed area. The distribution of OH species on the skin was asymmetric, which agreed with experiments. The computational model itself and the obtained results would be useful for future development of plasma medicine.
文摘Cold atmospheric pressure plasma jets were capable of generating cold plasma plumes that were not confined by electrodes, which make them very enticing for biological, medical and polymer applications. The gas temperature decreased continuously as the flow rate of nitrogen increasing from 2 l/min to 14 l/min at 3 Kv as a fixed input voltage.
