With the accelerated development of globalization,the importance of English as an international language is self-evident.However,traditional English teaching often focuses on grammar and vocabulary,while neglecting practical applications.In order to cultivate students who can use English fluently and confidently,we need to conduct in-depth discussions on English teaching strategies and methods.In terms of speaking,teachers can arrange classroom discussions,role-playing,and other activities to encourage students to speak English boldly.Through continuous practice,students can gradually overcome shyness and nervousness,improve their fluency and confidence in oral expression.This teaching method can not only help students better understand the English language,but also broaden their horizons and improve their cross-cultural communication skills.This article will illustrate the necessity of practical English teaching through examples and case studies,and explore effective teaching strategies and methods. 展开更多

This paper aims to explore how a veteran teacher organizes online teaching initiated by the pandemic and how she deals with the problems in online teacher-student verbal interaction.By analyzing a corpus of 20 audio-recorded online lessons between a math teacher and her students during the COVID-19 pandemic from April 11 to May 10,2022,four interactional segments are selected as the focus of the study.The results of the conversation analysis of the segments showed that students’modesty,lack of confidence,lack of ability,and network delay are the main factors affecting online teacher-student interaction.By encouraging students to answer questions,enlightening students to give answers,enriching students’answers,and entertaining the teaching atmosphere(“4Es”strategies),the teacher solved the problems successfully.The findings from this study can provide pedagogical experience and implications for practical teaching. 展开更多

Tourism is an emerging industry in China, known as the "sunrise industry" and "invisible trade". Though started late, with the rapid development of the national economy, it has been developing at an amazing speed. According to statistics, by the end of 2011, there were 23,690 travel agencies; the number of domestic and foreign tourists has grown exponentially every year. Particularly, inbound and outbound tourism market is booming. Europe, the United States and other English-speaking countries have become major tourist source markets of China; a large number of high-quality foreign tourism practitioners are urgently needed. Thus, tourism English teaching has played a very important role in the training of practitioners who are proficient in English, but also have high level tourism skills. Although at present, the education has accumulated a wealth of experience, has made significant progress, in the actual teaching, there are many problems existing. This article puts forward some constructive suggestions for improvement, combining with the local tourism resources. 展开更多

Utilization of the Teaching Strategies among Nurse Tutors in Malawi Nursing Colleges

Background: There are numerous teaching strategies that suit the pedagogical learning, but not all can yield the desired outcome and be properly applied by nurse tutors in both classroom and clinical area. Therefore, identifying the utilization of the teaching strategy for nurse tutors is very detrimental in nursing education. Methods: Descriptive exploratory design which utilized both qualitative and sequential quantitative methods was applied to Iterated Purposive Probability Sampling (IPPS) of 10 nursing colleges in Malawi. This was done to 129 student and 82 nurse tutors in two structured questionnaires, 40 in-depth interviews and 10 focus groups. There were 56 variables for the teaching strategy under five ranked Likert scale and the Cronbach’s Alpha was found to be 0.964 without standardisation and it was 0.963 after standardisation. Results: Direct teaching strategies like the lecture method are very common although nurse tutors prefer to combine with other interactive instructions. There is statistical association of use of role play and group discussion methods and nurse tutor work experience with odds ratios of OR ≤ 1.624;CI(0.576 ± 4.579);p ≥ 0.359 and OR ≤ 1.397;CI(0.882 ± 2.306);p ≥ 0.147 respectively. The ability to use different teaching strategies competently is still very limited among nurse tutors in Malawi nursing colleges. This compromises quality of learning among nursing students in the colleges. Conclusion: Developing a new teaching strategy that could combine the different attributes in the variety of the teaching instructions can promote the quality of nursing education in Malawi. 展开更多
