And the self-study ability is more and more emphasized. The Foreign Department of Harbin Engineering University has put the the Internet-based self-study platform in use among the Chen Geng class for years. Based on the observation of the using condition of the platform and the results from a survey, this paper will analyze the influence of the learning strategies after the use of the platform, and at the same time, some suggestions will be provided for the teachers to help students have a better command of learning strategies. As proved by the data, for the college English education in all Chinese universities, it is both a trend and a necessity to cultivate the self-study ability of students through the Internet-based platform. 展开更多

In the past, "focus on the theory and lighten the practice," the idea has far-reaching impact, now we want to change old ideas; this is because in today' s quality education, construction, laboratory and practical education reform teaching content and methods are a part of education reform. Chinese college students have some drawbacks in English learning and mastering. Through a dozen years of English learning, some of them have high ability of passing examinations, but the practical application ability is barely satisfactory with relatively poor listening level and oral expression ability. The objective cause for this situation is the relatively single and stylization English teaching model used by traditional colleges and universities. This model only emphasizes learning on class which greatly harms students' English learning enthusiasm and initiatives. The result is that although the students passed CET4 and CET6 long time before their graduation, they still not dare to open their mouth to speaking concerning face to face English communications. Over the years, the researches on how to improve college students' English application ability never stop and they did obtain some achievements and show some opportunities, for example, if we can bring APP (application programs) into college English listening class, it will largely meet students requirements on English learning and this can also replenish and perfect traditional English teaching model. 展开更多

This study adopts the grounded theory approach to critically examine the essence and implementation of Ideological and Political Education(IPE)within college English curricula at Chinese Universities.We analyzed a corpus of 80 award-winning lesson plans from the“Teaching Star Competition”held by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press to establish specific constituents that comprise IPE and identify the instructional methodologies incorporated in the teaching process.The research shows that IPE strategically merges language proficiency training with civic education,aiming to cultivate a strong national identity,solid cultural pride,and global competencies.To be more detailed,the core categories of IPE encapsulate critical thinking,professional ethics,and cross-cultural communication skills,which are based on the innovative use of technological resources and adaptive pedagogical strategies.IPE has also elaborated on the comprehensive assessment mechanisms to measure cognitive and affective outcomes,making it a multidimensional activity.Following a three-stage coding process,this study aims to contribute to this discussion regarding ideological and political education integrated into Chinese higher education institutions.The finding and conclusion in this study drawn for future curriculum developments and reformulation of educational policy suggest ways IPE could better serve in fostering well-rounded individuals capable of contributing to national and global contexts. 展开更多
