Methods: A 3-day (2 weekdays and 1 weekend day) 24-hour (24-HRs) dietary recall was conducted to record details of participants’ food consumption. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to examine the influence of the identified demographic variables (including BMI, gender, major, family monthly income, and place of household registration) on the 8 food groups’ consumption. We analyzed the effect of the various demographic variables on sodium intake by the student’s t-test. The questionnaire, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ)-Short Form, was utilized to assess participants’ physical activity (PA) level. The Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney was applied to analyze participants’ physical activity. Results: Our research indicated participants consumed much fewer fruits and vegetables and excessive meats on average for both males and females regarding NCDs prevention. Conclusion: Participants’ dietary intake did not comply with the Chinese Dietary Guide-lines recommendation for chronic diseases prevention. Nutrition knowledge and health education are needed for college students. .展开更多

Purposes: To estimate the reference values and predictive equations for frequently used clinical field HRPF measures in a sample of Saudi female college students aged 18 - 24 years. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, body fat percentage (BF %) was estimated. Curl-up test (CUT) and sit and reach test (SRT) were applied in 216 students. The Queen’s College Step Test (QCST) was used to predict maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max). Physical activity (PA) level was also measured using International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results: The mean of BF %, SRT, CUT, and predicted VO2 max were 23.98% ± 6.13%, 17.10 ± 7.50 cm, 28.17 ± 7.72 number/min, and 39.58 ± 4.01 ml/kg/min respectively. There was no significant effect of age on all HRPF measures except for BF % (F (6,215) = 3.25, p (6,215) = 4.01, p strated that BMI was the predictor for BF % and SRT and explained 65% and 4% of total variance respectively. IPAQ score, age, and height were the predictors of CUT counting 17% of total variance. While, BMI and IPAQ score were the predictors for VO2 max and explained 13% of the total variance. Conclusion: Reference values can be used clinically in the evaluation of HRPF, in the rehabilitation process as well as in designing a program to improve the HRPF for female college students with consideration of age, height, BMI, and PA level for a particular population.展开更多

Methods: We recruited 24,055 students at six colleges in the Southeast to complete an online survey, yielding 4840 responses (20.1% response rate). The current analyses focused on the 2276 Black and White females. Results: Binary logistic regression analyses indicated that recommended FV intake among White females was associated with greater extraversion (Odds Ratio [OR] = 1.05, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] 1.00, 1.11, p = 0.05) and greater conscientiousness (OR = 1.08, CI 1.02, 1.14, p = 0.01), whereas among Black females correlates included greater openness to experience (OR = 1.08, CI 1.01, 1.15, p = 0.03). Ordinal logistic regression analyses indicated that, among White females, greater PA was associated with attending a four-year college (Beta = 0.27, CI 0.01, 0.53, p = 0.04), whereas among Black females, correlates were with younger age (Beta = -0.01, CI -0.17, -0.03, p = 0.003) and greater emotional stability (Beta = 0.07, CI 0.01, 0.13, p = 0.02). Binary logistic regression analyses indicated that, among White females, being overweight or obese was associated with older age (OR = 1.08, CI 1.01, 1.16, p = 0.03), attending a two-year college (OR = 1.62, CI 1.22, 2.16, p = 0.001), and lower satisfaction with life (OR = 0.96, CI 0.94, 0.98, p = 0.002), whereas among Black females, being overweight or obese was associated with older age (OR = 1.87, CI 1.10, 1.28, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Identifying factors related to obesity-related factors is critical in developing interventions targeting factors associated with overweight and obesity among Black and White females attending two- and four-year colleges. Moreover, understanding different college settings and the contextual factors associated with overweight/obesity is critical.展开更多

文摘This research focused on the social concern of college students5 participation in physical exercise and mobile phone dependence. The research model and hypotheses in this study were constructed based on the self-control theory and by reviewing previous research. This research distributed questionnaires to 207 college students from a university in Guangzhou,China to obtain relevant data.Mediation analysis was employed to test the four hypotheses drawn from empirical and conceptual research. The results of this research showed that first, the longer the exercise duration of college students, the higher the level of their self-control,thus exercise duration has a significant positive impact on self-control.Second,increasing the exercise duration of college students had no effect on their mobile phone dependence.Third, the higher the level of selfcontrol, the lower the dependence on mobile phones, thus signifying that self-control has significantly negative impact on mobile phone dependence.Fourth,self-control plays a mediating role in the effect of exercise duration on mobile phone dependence. In conclusion, the longer the exercise duration of college students, the higher the level of self-control,in which it is able to significantly reduce the dependence on mobile phones.
文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic led to sudden extreme changes in lifestyle, potentially causing adverse changes in physical activity, sedentary behavior, and dietary habits. The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of COVID-19 quarantine on physical activity, dietary habits, and food insecurity among college students who were impacted by the quarantine periods and campus closures. The findings of the study will provide preliminary evidence on dietary, physical activity, and sedentary behavior changes induced by the pandemic among college students.Participants(n=403)completed a cross-sectional self-report online questionnaire, evaluating the physical activity, sedentary behavior, and dietary behaviors before-and during-COVID-19 campus closures(March–May 2020).Sociodemographic and descriptive information was also obtained from each participant.Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to assess changes in physical activity, sedentary behavior, and dietary habits.McNemar's test was used to compare food insecurity changes.Data were presented as median and interquartile range.A total of 291 participants who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the study(college-aged,18–24 years).Physical activity decreased at vigorous(2 days/week to 1 day/week,p<0.001),moderate(4 days/week to 1 day/week,p<0.001),and light(4 days/week to 2 days/week,p<0.001)intensity levels, while sedentary behavior increased(4 h/day to 7 h/day,p<0.001)from pre-to during-COVID-19 quarantine period.Frequencies of meals at home and alcohol consumption increased(Z=-3.911 and Z=-4.022,p<0.001),while frequency of fruit consumption decreased(Z=-2.116,p<0.001)from pre-to during-COVID-19 quarantine period.Daily alcohol intake also increased during COVID-19 quarantine period(Z=-4.442,p<0.001).Lastly,the percentage of individuals reporting food insecurity significantly increased during COVID-19 quarantine(p<0.001).College-aged students in quarantine significantly decreased physical activity participation and increased sedentary behavior.Changes in dietary habits were observed, including increased meals at home, alcohol con-sumption,and decreased fruit consumption.Food insecurity also doubled among college-aged students during quarantine.Public health strategies to attenuate these changes in lifestyle habits should be implemented during a global pandemic.
