However the existing methods with shape descriptor get more labeled parts to compare and detect the object in an image, which makes the computation more complicated. Thus, we need a trade-off between the accuracy and efficiency requirements. This paper aims to bridge this gap between the accuracy and efficiency requirements by using morphology method. To improve the original monochromatic object detecting system, we propose a new color descriptor to preprocess the image with polychromatic object. Experiments have been conducted and shown the proposed method has made a great improvement in the time complexity minimization comparing with the performances of the original detection algorithm.展开更多

The tw...The paper studied the relationship between microstructure and shape recovery characteristics by using colored microstructure analysis under polarized light on the thermomechanical cycled CuAlNi single crystals. The two-way shape memory effect in quenched thin bar resulted from the preferential formation/extinction of martensite variant due to the internal quench stress, and the variant was formed at an angle of about 45 deg. with the tension direction ([001] of the βphase). Initial thermomechanical cycling under relatively low stress single variant stress-induced martensite was formed at an angle of 45 deg. with the tension and its morphology was a lath of parallel twins. More than one group of variants were formed after several training cycles and such variants also caused tilting of some thermally formed accommodated martensite. By overheating the trained sample containing stabilized multi-variants of stress-induced martensite, very coarse martensite structure with a strong asymmetry was produced, which caused the reverse two-way shape memory effect.展开更多

Using the phase-shift technique, points cloud with high spatial resolution and limited accur...A new 3D surface contouring and ranging system based on digital fringe projection and phase shifting technique is presented. Using the phase-shift technique, points cloud with high spatial resolution and limited accuracy can be generated. Stereo-pair images obtained from two cameras can be used to compute 3D world coordinates of a point using traditional active triangulation approach, yet the camera calibration is crucial. Neural network is a well-known approach to approximate a nonlinear system without an explicit physical model, in this work it is used to train the stereo vision application system to calculating 3D world coordinates such that the camera calibration can be bypassed. The training set for neural network consists of a variety of stereo-pair images and the corresponding 3D world coordinates. The picture elements correspondence problem is solved by using projected color-coded fringes with different orientations. Color imbalance is completely eliminated by the new color-coded method. Once the high accuracy correspondence of 2D images with 3D points is acquired, high precision 3D points cloud can be recognized by the well trained net. The obvious advantage of this approach is that high spatial resolution can be obtained by the phase-shifting technique and high accuracy 3D object point coordinates are achieved by the well trained net which is independent of the camera model works for any type of camera. The uncertainty of the velocity measurement was also studied an...This study proposes a three-dimensional (3D) particle image velocimetry (PIV) method using W- shaped light sheet and color PIV with a digital SLR camera. The uncertainty of the velocity measurement was also studied and it was acceptable. The spatial resolution of the z-direction has much room for improvement by increasing the number of cameras. When applied to the velocity distribution measurement of a thermal vertical buoyant plume, the proposed 3D PIV method is found to be very effective for studying thermal structures and well suited for measuring the airflow velocity field.展开更多
