The first record of abnormal body coloration in Sebastes koreanus Kim and Lee,1994,from the Yellow Sea of China,was documented based on morphological characteristics and DNA barcoding.The two rockfish specimens were collected from the coastal waters of Qingdao,China,and the whole body and all fins of them were red.Of the two red-colored rockfish,there were tiny deep red spots on each fin,2 red radial stripes behind and below the eyes and 1 large deep red blotch on the opercula,while the similar stripe and spot patterns are also present in the S.koreanus specimens with normal body coloration.The countable characteristics of the two specimens are in the range of the morphometry of S.koreanus.To further clarify the species identity and taxonomic status of the two specimens,DNA barcode analysis was carried out.The genetic distance between the red-colored rockfish and S.koreanus was 0,and the minimum net genetic distances between the red-colored rockfish and other Sebastes species except for S.koreanus were 3.0%,which exceeds the threshold of species delimitation.The phylogenetic analysis showed that the DNA barcoding sequences of the two red-colored rockfish clustered with the S.koreanus sequences.The above results of DNA barcode analysis also support that the two red-colored rockfish could be identified as the species of S.koreanus.The mechanism of color variation in S.koreanus is desirable for further research and the species could be an ideal model to study the color-driven speciation of the rockfishes. 展开更多

Physiological and psychological responses to tended plant communities with varying color characteristics

Exposure to plants has been reported to promote health and reduce stress,and plant color has direct impacts on physical and mental health.We used images of common types of tended plant communities in Shenyang,China,with combinations of yellow,green,and red foliage,as experimental stimuli.A total of 27 images were used as visual stimuli.We used electroencephalography to measureαwave activity(8-13 Hz)in 40 subjects while they viewed visual stimuli.These data were combined with subjective questionnaire data to analyze the relaxing effect of images of tended plant communities with different color types and proportions on people.The results revealed that,although there were slight differences between the electroencephalography and psychological findings,women were significantly more relaxed than men after viewing the images.Physiological and psychological responses varied with the types and proportions of colors in the tended plant communities:those of foliage with combinations of two or three colors induced stronger responses than images with a single color.Specifically,(1)for one-color plant communities,green or yellow plant communities induced a stronger relaxation effect than red plant communities;(2)for two-color plant communities,the optimal color proportion was 55%+45%,and the green+yellow and green+red color combinations induced a stronger relaxation effect;(3)for three-color plant communities,the relaxation effect was strongest when the color proportion was 55%green+25%yellow+20%red.These data would provide a plant color matching in future plant landscape design,which may be helpful for creating healthy and relaxing environments. 展开更多

This study develops low-fat microwaved peanut snacks(LMPS)using partially defatted peanuts(PDP)with different defatting ratios,catering to people’s pursuit of healthy,low-fat cuisine.The effects of defatting treatment on the structural characteristics,texture,color,and nutrient composition of LMPS were comprehensively explored.The structural characteristics of LMPS were characterized using X-ray micro-computed tomography(Micro-CT)and scanning electron microscope(SEM).The results demonstrated that the porosity,pore number,pore volume,brightness,brittleness,protein content,and total sugar content of LMPS all significantly increased(P<0.05)with the increase in the defatting ratio.At the micro level,porous structure,cell wall rupture,and loss of intracellular material could be observed in LMPS after defatting treatments.LMPS made from PDP with a defatting ratio of 64.44%had the highest internal pore structural parameters(porosity 59%,pore number 85.3×10^(5),pore volume 68.23 mm3),the brightest color(L^(*) 78.39±0.39),the best brittleness(3.64±0.21)mm^(–1)),and the best nutrition(high protein content,(34.02±0.38)%;high total sugar content,(17.45±0.59)%;low-fat content,(27.58±0.85)%).The study provides a theoretical basis for the quality improvement of LMPS. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Endoscopy has rapidly developed in recent years and has enabled further investigation into the origin and features of intestinal tumors.The small size and concealed position of these tumors make it difficult to distinguish them from nonneoplastic polyps and carcinoma in adenoma(CIA).The invasive depth and metastatic potential determine the operation regimen,which in turn affects the overall survival and distant prognosis.The previous studies have confirmed the malignant features and clinicopathological features of de novo colorectal cancer(CRC).AIM To provide assistance for diagnosis and treatment,but the lack of a summary of endoscopic features and assessment of risk factors that differ from the CIA prompted us to conduct this retrospective study.METHODS In total,167 patients with small-sized CRCs diagnosed by endoscopy were reviewed.The patients diagnosed as advanced CRCs and other malignant cancers or chronic diseases that could affect distant outcomes were excluded.After screening,63 cases were excluded,including 33 de novo and 30 CIA cases.Patient information,including their follow-up information,was obtained from an electronic His-system.The characteristics between two group and risk factors for invasion depth were analyzed with SPSS 25.0 software.RESULTS Nearly half of the de novo CRCs were smaller than 1 cm(n=16,48.5%)and the majority were located in the distal colon(n=26,78.8%).The IIc type was the most common macroscopic type of de novo CRC.In a Pearson analysis,the differential degree,Sano,JNET,and Kudo types,surrounding mucosa,and chicken skin mucosa(CSM)were correlated with the invasion depth(P<0.001).CSM was a significant risk factor for deep invasion and disturbed judgment of endoscopic ultrasound.A high degree of tumor budding and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes are accompanied by malignancy.Finally,de novo CRCs have worse outcomes than CIA CRCs.CONCLUSION This is the first comprehensive study to analyze the features of de novo CRCs to distinguish them from nonneoplastic polyps.It is also the first study paying attention to CSM invasive depth measurement.This study emphasizes the high metastatic potential of de novo CRCs and highlights the need for more research on this tumor type. 展开更多

Colored dissolved organic matter(CDOM)is an important optically active substance in marine environment.Its biochemical conservatism makes it an important indicator to offshore pollution process.Monitoring the content,composition,and diffusion process of CDOM is a good approach to analyze the terrestrial input,optical properties,and ecological environment of offshore areas.The spatiotemporal characteristics of CDOM around the Leizhou Peninsula were analyzed based on field observation data collected in the autumn 2020 and spring 2021,and an empirical inversion model of the ag(355)(absorption coefficient at 355 nm)and spectral slope(Sg)(g stands for gelbstoff/gilvin,which is called CDOM)based on Sentinel-3A ocean and land color instrument(OLCI)images was constructed.The results show(1)the order of average ag(355)value around the Leizhou Peninsula was east coast(0.503/m)>Qiongzhou Strait(0.502/m)>west coast(0.365/m);(2)the best band combinations of CDOM inversion in spring and autumn were(B4+B11)/B3 and(B7-B1)/B6(B stands for the band of spectral images),and the final inversion results are close to the measured results,indicating that the model has good accuracy;(3)the S_(g)value of the CDOM absorption spectrum was fitted to the hyperbolicexponential model.The fitting accuracy of the model was higher than those of the exponential model and the hyperbolic model,and the best S_(g)inversion model was constructed by selecting Sg(275-295)and Sg(250-295)in spring and autumn;(4)the spatial distributions of ag(355)and S_(g)were inverted,and CDOM in the waters around the Leizhou Peninsula originated from terrestrial organic matter carried by coastal aquaculture zones and runoff in the northeast Zhanjiang and the northern Beibu Gulf. 展开更多

Objective To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of advanced colorectal cancer which was 30 mm or smaller in diameter. Methods Retrospective analysis documented 80 patients with small advanced colorectal cancer from May 1985 to May 2002. According to the diameter of tumors, all patients were divided into three groups: Group A (10 mm or less), Group B (11-20 mm), Group C (21-30 mm). Considering the number of patients in Group A was smaller, we combined Group A with Group B as Group D. Then various clinicopathological characteristics were compared between Group C and Group D. Results The most common site of small advanced colorectal cancer was sigmoid colon and rectum that accounted for 36.2% and 35.0% of all cases. The average diameter of total tumors was 23.3 mm. Type 2 was the most common macroscopic type (63.7%) and the moderate differentiation was seen in 77.5% of cases. Thirty-eight (47.5%) cases had lymph node metastasis. Three (3.8%) cases had liver metastasis and three (3.8%) cases had peritoneal metastasis. The frequency of lymph node metastasis was found significantly different between Group C and Group D (54.2% vs. 28.6%, P<0.05), as well as between the groups with different depth of invasion (P<0.05). Curability A resection was performed in 69 (86.2%) cases. Conclusions Tumor size and depth of invasion are related to lymph node metastasis in small advanced colorectal cancer. However, the small size of tumor may not always be a.reliable parameter for estimating the risk of lymph node metastasis. Small colorectal cancers also do not always mean the early stage. Surgeons should be aware of the features of small advanced colorectal cancers to select ideal management and perform perfect resection. 展开更多

Liquidambar formosana Hance is an attractive landscape tree species because its leaves gradually change from green to red,purple or orange in autumn.In this study,the red variety of L.formosana was used to establish a quantitative model of leaf color.Physiological changes in leaf color,pigment levels,enzyme activity,photosynthetic fluorescence characteristics and chloroplast ultrastructure were monitored.The relationship between leaf color and physiological structure indices was quantitatively analyzed to systematically explore the mechanisms behind leaf color.Our data showed that with a decrease in external temperatures,chloroplast numbers and sizes gradually decreased,thylakoid membranes became distorted,and chlorophyll synthesis was blocked and gradually decreased.As a result,chloroplast membranes could not be biosynthesized normally;net photosynthesis,maximum and actual photochemical efficiency,and rate of electron transfer decreased rapidly.Excess light energy caused leaf photoinhibition.With intensification of photoinhibition,leaves protected themselves using two mechanisms.In the first,anthocyanin synthesis was promoted by increasing chalcone isomerase and flavonoid glycosyltransferase activities and soluble sugar content so as to increase anthocyanin to filter light and eliminate reactive oxygen species to reduce photoinhibition.In the second,excessive light energy was consumed in the form of heat energy by increasing the non-photochemical quenching coefficient.These processes tuned the leaves red. 展开更多

Methods: Analysis and summary were made for 704 colorectal cancer patients diagnosed from 2004 to 2008 in North China. Results: (1) Of 704 colorectal cancer patients, the median age was 56 years old, and the mean age was 58.2. There was no statistic difference in age between male and female cases, P 〉 0.05. (2) The male-female ratio was 1.62:1. (3) The proportion of rectal cancer was 62.92%, and incidence of the left colon cancer was higher than that of right colon cancer, P 〈 0.05. (4) Of 712 lesions, 658 cases were adenocarcinoma accounting for 92.4%, 34 were malignant adenoma accounting for 4.8%, and 20 carcinoid accounting for 2.8%. (5) The 48.9% of patients belonged to stages 0 to 11B. Conclusion: The cases of colorectal cancer in North China is mainly rectal cancers, and the incidence of left colon cancer is higher than that of right colon cancer. The histopathological classification is mainly adenocarcinoma, and the ratio of early stage is high. 展开更多

For the electron-irradiated sensors, the non-uniformity increases obviouslyand a small bright region on the dark image appears at the dose of 0.4 kGy. The average brightnessincreases at 0.4 kGy, increases sharply at 0.5 kGy. The picture is very blurry only at 0.6 kGy,showing the sensor undergoes severe performance degradation. Electron radiation damage is much moresevere than γ radiation damage for the CMOS image sensors. A possible explanation is presented inthis paper. 展开更多

[Objective]The aim of this study is to research leaf color development and photosynthetic characteristics of golden-leaf ginkgo.[Method]With one-year-old grafted seedlings of golden-leaf ginkgo as the materials,the changes of leaf color,chlorophyll content(Chl),carotenoid(x.c)content and rate of chlorophyll and carotenoid content,as well as photosynthetic characteristics under full sunlight and overshadowing were all investigated in this study.[Result]Sprouts of golden-leaf ginkgo were pale-yellow,and changed from orange to golden in April,to light yellow-green in May,to yellow-green from June to October,to yellow in November.The chlorophyll and carotenoid contents and the rates of chlorophyll and carotenoid contents of yellow-leaf were significantly lower than that of green-leaf,while the rate of Chla/x.c and Chlb/x.c was obviously lower than the corresponding pigment content of green-leaf.During the leaf color development,Chla,Chlb and x.c content as well as the rate of Chla/x.c and Chlb/x.c of yellow-leaf ginkgo all increased.The saturation light intensity of ginkgo leaf under natural light was higher than that under overshadowing.Maximum net photosynthetic rate,light compensation point and dark respiration rate of yellow leaf were all significantly higher than that of green leaf.Chla/x.c,Chlb/x.c and Chla+b/x.c of yellow-leaf ginkgo under overshadowing were higher than the corresponding pigment rate of leaf under natural light.[Conclusion]The best ornamental duration of golden-leaf ginkgo is April and May.The major reason for showing yellow leaf is that Chla/x.c and Chlb/x.c of yellow-leaf is obviously lower than that of green-leaf.During the leaf color development,the major reason for yellow-leaf turning to yellow-green is that the rate of Chla/x.c and Chlb/x.c increases.Chlb content of yellow-leaf under overshadowing is higher than that under natural light,which is an adaptive response to overshadowing.Chla/x.c,Chlb/x.c and Chla+b/x.c of yellow-leaf under overshadowing are relatively higher,which is one of the reasons why yellow-leaf under overshadowing becomes yellow-green or green. 展开更多

This paper proposes a color tracking method based on correlation search area optimization on target characteristic hue decision. By quantifying and reducing dimensions of HSV( hue saturation value) color space, a one-dimensional hue space is constructed. In the space, the target characteristic hue granule set is constructed, which contains attributes such as value, area and average distance between pixels and aiming center. By using granular computing method, the similarity between target and search blocks is obtained and the invalid search areas can be removed. The color tracking experiment has proved that the algorithm can improve real time performance for conventional matching algorithms without precision lost. 展开更多

The paper studied the relationship between microstructure and shape recovery characteristics by using colored microstructure analysis under polarized light on the thermomechanical cycled CuAlNi single crystals. The two-way shape memory effect in quenched thin bar resulted from the preferential formation/extinction of martensite variant due to the internal quench stress, and the variant was formed at an angle of about 45 deg. with the tension direction ([001] of the βphase). Initial thermomechanical cycling under relatively low stress single variant stress-induced martensite was formed at an angle of 45 deg. with the tension and its morphology was a lath of parallel twins. More than one group of variants were formed after several training cycles and such variants also caused tilting of some thermally formed accommodated martensite. By overheating the trained sample containing stabilized multi-variants of stress-induced martensite, very coarse martensite structure with a strong asymmetry was produced, which caused the reverse two-way shape memory effect. 展开更多

Ninety honey samples of five different floral origins (chestnut, eucalyptus, citrus, multifloral and sulla) from nine areas of southern Italy, were screened to evaluate the polyphenol content by spectrphotometric methods, the antioxidant activity by ABTS (2,2' -azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid? diamonium salt, FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) and DPPH (I,I-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) assays, and the colorimetric characteristics by spectrophotometric and CIE (Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage) L *a*b* methods. Moreover, the correlations between the analysed parameters were studied. Overall, the results showed that all the honey samples presented high total phenolic and flavonoid contents (12.23 mg gallic acid equivalent/lOOg honey and 8.16 mg quercetin equivalent/lOOg honey, respectively), and a high antioxidant activity (59.17%, 66.50% and 349.11 11M Fe (II) for ABTS, DPPH and FRAP assays, respectively), but those results differ widely according to the honey types, suggesting that honey composition has been influenced by its floral and geographical origin. In particular, the darkest honeys, such as chestnut honey (L * = 59.94; 1.26 AU), showed the highest polyphenol content and the highest antioxidant activity. Honeys from the areas with major anthropogenic activities and high population density presented the highest antioxidant activity. Correlations between the analysed parameters were statistically significant (P 〈 0.05), suggesting that the polyphenol content is correlated with the antioxidant activity and colour of honey. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the expression of miR-21 in colorectal cancer cells,and to analyze the relationship between the level of miR-21 and the clinicopathological characteristics of colorectal cancer patients.Methods:210 patients with colorectal cancer treated in our hospital from January 2016 to June 2019 were selected.Cancer tissue specimens(study group)and adjacent normal tissue specimens(control group)were surgically collected,and the quantitative quantitative PCR was used to detect and compare the miR-21 expression of the two groups.Results:The expression of miR-21 in the study group was higher than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There were significant differences among patients with early and intermediate TNM,patients with low differentiation and patients with moderate to high differentiation,patients with lymph node metastasis and patients without lymph node metastasis,patients with high infiltration and patients with low infiltration,patients with high CEA levels,and patients with low CEA,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:In colorectal cancer,miR-21 is highly expressed,which is closely related to stage and differentiation,and can be used to reflect the patient’s condition. 展开更多

Anthocyanins are secondary metabolites in land plants that contribute to the colors of leaves and flowers,and are nutritionally valuable components of the human diet.The DFR gene plays an important role in the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway.In this study,we investigated the regulation of DFR expression and in different Malus crabapple cultivars that show distinct patterns of leaf coloration,and how it influences leaf anthocyanin accumulation and coloration.Specifically,we studied the ever-red leaved cultivar‘Royalty’,the ever-green leaved cultivar‘Flame’and the spring-red leaved cultivar‘Radiant’.RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression of McDFR1 correlated with the expression of a MYB transcription factor,McMYB10,and with anthocyanin accumulation.We isolated five McDFR1 promoter fragments from the three cultivars and identified four different fragments(F1–4)that were present either in several cultivars,or only in one.Yeast one-hybrid and electrophoretic mobility shift assay analyses showed that McMYB10 could bind to all the McDFR1 promoters,except McDFR1-Ra2.The F1,F2 and F3 fragments did not affect McMYB10 binding to the McDFR1 promoters;however,we found evidence that the F4 fragment suppressed binding,and that the MYBGAHV amino-acid sequence maybe an important cis-element for McMYB10 protein binding.This information has potential value for strategies to modify plant color through genetic transformation. 展开更多

Color Doppler flow imaging(CDFI) was performed in 24 patients with Graves' disease and the results were compared with those from 8 patients with Hashimoto's disease, 6 patients with simple diffuse goiter, and 15 normal volunteers. All cases were confirmed by clinical, laboratory tests or pathology. CDFI of Graves' disease showed diffuse or localized hypoechoes within the thyroid glands, rich flow signals in the hypoechoes, accelerated flow velocity, and decreased resistance in the superior thyroid arteries(STA) and arteries within the glands. These appearances were characteristic as compared with the controls. The rate of flow in STA of Graves' disease patients was 8 to 10 times higher than that in the normal volunteers. This study demonstrates that CDFI is convenient and efficient as compared with isotope scan and some other laboratory tests, and can be widely used in the diagnosis of Graves' disase. 展开更多

Hard clam(Meretrix meretrix)has a rich shell color variation among individuals from light yellow to bluish gray,brown red,and black,which may associating with melanin.Tyrosinase(Tyr)is a key rate-limiting enzyme for the biosynthesis of melanin,which affects the dark color of animal skin,hair,fur,scales and feathers.Here,we isolated and characterized the full-length cDNA sequence of M.meretrix tyrosinase gene(MmTyr)which encodes a protein with 689 amino acids.Sequence characteristics and phylogenetic analysis showed that there are a variety of Tyr genes in mollusks,which can be divided into different categories.The abundance of MmTyr transcript was detected in six tissues including mantle,adductor muscle,digestive gland,foot,gill and siphon of adult M.meretrix with qRT-PCR.The results showed a higher expression specifically in the mantle,digestive gland and siphon,which was consistent with the phenotypic color difference.In the embryos and larvae at different developmental stages,high expression was found in the trochophore larvae and juvenile clams.Among three M.meretrix strains with different shell colors,the expression level of MmTyr and total melanin content in the mantle edge both showed significant differences,suggesting that MmTyr is involved in the formation of shell color.The results obtained in this study will improve our understanding of molluscan tyrosinase gene function and molecular mechanism of shell color pattern determination. 展开更多
