As a key part of the manufacturing industry,the rubber and plastic industry is widely used in a variety of fields such as automotive manufacturing,construction materials,and electronics.With technological innovation,global economic growth and infrastructure construction driving the demand for rubber and plastic materials,rubber and plastic materials play an important role in various fields,and accurate translation of the industry’s terminology is also crucial for international communication.The purpose of this paper is to explore in depth the lexical features of rubber and plastic industry terminology,including strong specialization,specialization of common vocabulary,and diversity of word formation.In view of these lexical features,relevant Chinese translation strategies are discussed to ensure the accuracy,specialization and comprehensibility of the translation of rubber and plastic industry terms.

On Chinese-English Translation of Disease and Syndrome Terms in Shang Han Lun from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory

Shang Han Lun is one of the most famous and important traditional medical books in China,so many translation versions of it have emerged.Based on the comparison of examples taken from two of these translation versions,Young Jie De ' s Shang Han Lun Explained and Huang Hai s Introduction to Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Disease,the paper points out that Nida s Functional Equivalence Theory provides a new idea for the translation of Disease and Syndrome Terms in TCM that literal translation,liberal translation and transliteration can be adopted appropriately to make readers of translation versions understand TCM accurately and easily.

Research on Translation of Assumed Kinship Terms

Address terms reflect the diversity of ethnological culture and differences in traditions and customs.Therefore,different nations boast different address systems.The use of assumed kinship terms is a linguistic phenomenon of using kinship terms to address non-kins.In translating assumed kinship terms,we should take the following factors into consideration:the author’s intention,social relationship between the addresser and the addressee,cultural differences in address forms between the source language and the target language.This paper compares the use of assumed kinship terms in Chinese with that in English,explores reasons leading to the differences between the assumed kinship terms in Chinese and English,and discusses strategies of translating assumed kinship terms.

Since Susan Bassnett puts forward cultural transfer as an approach in translation study, it begins to shift from linguistic study to comparative literary study. The process of translation involved in making another culture comprehensible entails varying degrees of violence, especially when culture being translated is constituted as that of the"other". The Journey to the West, a traditional Chinese classic contains numerous cultural-specific terms. Translators with different cultural identity mainly adopt domestication to provide easy access to the target readers, revealing the subjectivity and ideology of the translators and their cultures.

English Translation of Basic Chinese Color Terms: A Cultural Perspective

Color words, widely existing in different languages, have the identical visual effects for all nations. They not only denote color, but also convey cultural connotations in different cultural contexts. From the cultural perspective, the thesis analyzes similarities and differences of basic color terms Red and Black in English and Chinese, explores the application of domestication and foreignization in the English translation of these Chinese color terms, and illustrates the employment of mimesis, substitution and decoloration with examples in the translation practices.

Towards consistent machine translation of abbreviated terms in scientific literature

Scientific literature often contains abbreviated terms in English for brief.Machine translation(MT)systems can help to share knowledge in different languages among researchers.Current MT systems may translate the same abbreviated term in different sentences into different target terms.MT systems translate the abbreviated term in two ways:one is to use translation of the full name,the other is to use the abbreviated term directly.Abbreviated terms may be ambiguous and polysemous,and MT systems do not have an explicit strategy to decide which way to use without context information.To get the consistent translation for abbreviated terms in scientific literature,this paper proposes a translation model for abbreviated terms that integrates context information to get consistent translation of abbreviated terms.The context information includes the positions of abbreviated term and domain attributes of scientific literature.The first abbreviated term is translated in full name while the latter ones of the same abbreviated term will show the abbreviated form in the translation text.Experiments of translation from Chinese to English show the effectiveness of the proposed translation model.

“Defect”and“Compensation”in English Translation of Internet Fantasy Novels Terms

As an important part of network literature,Internet fantasy novels are more and more popular among overseas readers with the development and progress of Internet technology.There are a large number of terms in Internet fantasy novels with traditional Chinese cultural characteristics,making it difficult to translate.In order to better“going global”of Chinese online literature,the“defect”phenomenon in the translation of terms of Internet fantasy novels into English and its reasons behind are clarified,and several“compensation”strategies is provided.

Chinese Translation of International Trade Terms--A Corpus Based Study

Being widely used in global trade,the translation of international trade terms is necessary.Major procedures in this article are as following:(1)collecting 750 international trade terms and their Chinese translations from dictionaries,journals and official websites related to international trade terms;(2)using Tmxmall to align the international trade terms and their Chinese translation to build a parallel corpus;(3)selecting 120 out of the 750 international trade terms through random sampling;(4)classifying the international trade terms into four types through POS-tagging in CLAWS5;(5)basing on the functional equivalence and summarizing the main translation methods of international trade terms.The result shows literal translation,free translation and combination of literal and free translation employed in the Chinese translation of international trade terms.

Study on the English Translation of Chinese Ethnic-Minority Festival Terms

Chinese ethnic-minority festival terms are the concentrated embodiment and wisdom collection of the culture of ethnic minorities,which are important parts of Chinese culture.The paper discusses the characteristics of the minority festival terms and illustrates the four main English translation strategies of the minority festival terms through examples.Hopefully,the paper can be of positive significance for the protection and dissemination of ethnic minority characteristic culture.

Research on English Translation of Chinese Literary Terms from the Perspective of International Communication: Interpretation and Standardization

Literary terms are the crystallization of Chinese ideology and wisdom. Translation and communication function as an important link in the construction of the discourse system with Chinese characteristics. Standardized translation of literary terms is an important way to help the world understand China and promote international communication of Chinese culture, which is conducive to the inheritance and interpretation of fine traditional Chinese culture. From the perspective of the "going global" strategy of Chinese culture in the new era, and the existing asymmetry of English translation of Chinese literary terms in international cultural communication, we analyzed the divergence, variation and imposed interpretation of the translations of Chinese literary terms and put forward some suggestions for their standardization. We believe that the translation of Chinese literary terms should adhere to the principle of "localization" in cultural communication and focus on the transmission of Chinese cultural connotation to correct the imposed interpretations of Chinese literature in the West. Standardizing the translations of literary terms will facilitate the communication of "Chinese knowledge" to the world. The paper is expected to provide reference for research on construction and enhancement of discourse system for global communication with Chinese characteristics.

On Cultural Connotation and Translation of Color Terms:Comment on the “red” color
