They exchange information in Rayleigh flat-fading channels and multiple serial half-duplex relay nodes are employed to extend the communication coverage and assist the bidirectional communication between them using the analog network coding( ANC) protocol. With the objective of minimizing the sum transmit energy at the required data rate c,the optimal relay positioning and power allocation problem is firstly investigated and then the sub-optimal solutions for a two-relay channel are proposed, due to no close-form optimal solution. Furthermore,a sub-optimal scheme of relay positioning and power allocation, called equal-distance equal-transmit-power( EDEP) for an arbitrary Nrelay channel,N > 1 is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate a consistence with our proposed scheme.展开更多

In such a protocol, with the help of partial information from previous nodes, each relay node tries to recover the received source message and re-encodes part of the decoded message for transmission to satisfy the decoding requirements for the following relay node or the destination node. In order to construct practical polar codes, the nested structures are developed based on this protocol and the information sets corresponding to the partial messages forwarded are also calculated. The proposed scheme is proved to be capable of achieving the theoretical capacity of the degraded MRN-ORCs while still retains the low-complexity feature of polar codes. We perform simulations to testify the practicability of the proposed scheme and compare polar codes by using successive-cancellation list decoder(SCLD) with traditional low-density parity-check(LDPC) codes. The results show that the obtained polar codes provide significant gain.展开更多

A popular way to achieve this is by using wireless Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) communication systems. MIMO systems utilize Space Time Block Codes (STBC) as one of the leading ways to obtain higher data rates with limited bandwidth and power. With several STBC methods currently available, this paper analyzes simulations using Orthogonal Space Time Block Codes (OSTBC) in Rayleigh fading channels to evaluate the performance of MIMO systems. The selection to use a Rayleigh fading channel as a model for a non-line-of-sight (nLOS) environment is selected to mimic installations where a large number of signal paths and reflections are expected. All simulations are coded, generated and plotted using MATLAB resulting in graphical data representing the bit-error rate (BER) to signal-to-noise ratio (Eb/N0) or SNR. Each simulation captures how different configurations of key variables including code rate, diversity and antenna count can impact system performance. Four modulation schemes (BPSK, QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM) are included in each simulation. Conclusive evidence based upon these simulations suggests higher diversity gains were achieved with a greater number of antennas. The most significant factor for increasing system performance was using a lower count of transmit antennas with a higher count of receive antennas.展开更多

Based on the combination of Alamouti space-time code and time hopping ultra-wide band (TH-UWB) communications, a novel repetition space-time coding (RSTC) method for mobile 2x2 free-space optical communications with pulse position modulation (PPM) is devel- oped. In particular, two decoding methods of equal gain combining (EGC) maximum likelihood detection (MLD) and correlation matrix detection (CMD) are derived. When a quasi-static fading and weak turbulence channel model are considered, simulation results show that whether the channel state information (CSI) is known or not, the coding sys- tem demonstrates more significant performance of the symbol error rate (SER) than the uncoding. In other words, transmitting diversity can be achieved while conveying the information only through the time delays of the modulated signals transmitted from different antennas. CMD has almost the same effect of signal combining with maximal ratio combining (MRC). However, when the channel correlation increases, SER performance of the coding 2×2 system de- grades significantly.展开更多
