The widespread use of new media technology has brought changes to the technological environment of ideological and political education in colleges and universities,mainly manifested in the quantification of information dissemination,the virtualization of interpersonal relationships,and the diversification of educational platforms.These are also subtly affecting the values of contemporary college students.The positive effects are mainly manifested in the cultivation of the awareness of“network democracy”,the enhancement of the subject consciousness,and the strengthening of the sense of openness.The negative effects are mainly manifested in the disorder of value orientation,low moral sentiment,self-ification of values,and weakening of national identity. 展开更多

As new media communication becomes popular and the technological threshold of personal expression has been lowered,the phenomenon of online rumors has also emerged with new communication characteristics as individuals are continuously empowered to communicate.This paper quantifies a rumor spreading event from 2020 to 2021 that generated a lot of discussion.Using a content analysis approach,we examined how different subjects in the online public opinion chaos have influenced the spreading process of the event,and used the study of online rumor spreading mechanism to gain insight into the public opinion governance in the new media era.The study found that media platforms,the parties involved,and the general public as important participants have fully utilized the voice channel of the online communication platform to play a role behind the rumor event. 展开更多

As a developing Non-profit Organization (NPO) system for the learning and diffusion of Chinese language and culture around the globe, the Confucius Institute network is becoming more and more important for China's presence and influence in a diversified arena of world cultures. While this network is being enlarged and improved with the Chinese govemment's persistent backing, it is, however, recognized that the influence and efficiency of the institutes are still limited. It might not be essential whether people come primarily as serious language learners, but necessarily, the platform has to be attractive enough for a considerable proportion of users to stick on, making the Confucius Institute System a sustainable cultural service provider. Within the background of information society, the Intemet, mobile service, digital broadcasting, and other types of new media would act as an important effort to help Confucius Institutes to improve the capabilities of interacting with users, offering users with abundant media-rich content, and minimizing users' inconvenience by enhancing users' experience, lowering travel and time cost, and easily providing multi-lingual support. In this paper, we take the platform of Confucius Institute Online (http://www.chinese.cn, the official Intemet portal of the Confucius Institute network) as a case of actuality to analyze how the Confucius Institute system could utilize the communication capability of new media to enrich, enlarge, and enhance the diffusion of Chinese culture and language. Method/Process: Based on the themes and contents of a few media accounts of leading cadres at different ranks, we summarizes leading cadres new media usage in a systematic perspective and content analysize method. Result/Conclusion: The study defines the concept of Leading Cadres’ new media from the perspective of media practice, determine its position as a media communication platform in the government affairs new media communication system and its relationship with the other elements, and then systematically review the evolution of its media practice from personal website, blog, microblog and microblog to WeChat, live show. On this basis, with the Harold Lasswell communication model, this article summarizes leading cadres new media communication characteristics from five aspects: content producer, content, channel, audience, and effect. This paper takes a deep look at the Tosakan Project, a community project in Saraburi province, Thailand. This project combines concepts of folk media, digital storytelling, and the participatory model of Web 2.0 in order to solve community problems. Herein, it is shown how diverse groups in this community project work together using social network channels such as Facebook and Line to digitally tell folk stories through videos and disseminate the content to a wider audience via Facebook and other digital sharing outlets such as YouTube. 展开更多

Communities in developing country mountain areas,in part due to their remoteness,find themselves excluded from social,political and economic systems; and excluded from access to resources. This paper aims to study the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on remoteness and exclusion. It utilises two models - the resource movement framework,and the "information chain" - to analyse a telecentre in one district of mountainous Huancavelica,Peru's poorest region,set in the high Andes. It finds ICTs enabling new and positive resource flows for the two key user groups:teenaged school students and young farmers. These help to maintain social networks. They also support information searches that have improved agricultural practice where other information chain resources have been available. But non-use and ineffective use of the telecentre are found where information chain resources are lacking. ICTs have some impacts on intangible elements of remoteness. In this particular example,they also offer access to some previously-excluded resources. But they have not really addressed the systematic exclusions faced by mountain communities. And they so far appear to be a technology of inequality; favouring those residents who begin with better resource endowments.The paper concludes by offering some recommendations for mountain ICT project practice. 展开更多

Social media has become an inevitable part of our lives in the age of network society. People establish multiple identities for themselves, with or without references to the real world, and behave according to those identities. Self-made components of virtual presence are not limited to identities only; many users also create hyper-personalities for themselves with the help of new technologies. Then, the fundamental question becomes: Why do people create self-made identities and hyper-personalities to portray or hide themselves in social media environments? The answer to this question has certain connections and implications for behaviors of social media users. Therefore, researchers have investigated why some people find social media attractive and attend whenever possible, while others are afraid of social media and hesitate to attend. Positive and negative behaviors of social media users can be classified as braggadocian and preventative. Braggadocian behaviors are related to courageously taking advantage of social media, whereas preventative behaviors are concerned with avoidance of social media. The dominant behavioral pattern of a user depends on what one can achieve through attending or preventing social media. This paper first discusses basic elements of human behavior that drive social media such as altruism, hedonism, connectionism, homophily, multiple identities, memetics, narcissism, and tribalism. Then, it focuses on precautionary elements of human behavior such as avoidance, escape, blocking, fear, hiding, removal, and protectionism. Whether they are attentive or not, one thing is clear: People refrain or enrich their own lives in social media rather than being abused or watching others in industrial media. 展开更多
