An Integrating Approach in English language Teaching——The Combination of Traditional and Communicative Approaches

In English language teaching, both the traditional and communicative approaches have their own advantages and shortcomings. So what we need to do is taking the advantages of communicative approaches without upsetting the patterns of traditional practices—combining traditional and communicative approaches.

A Study on the Cultivation of Students'Intercultural Communicative Competence in College English Teaching

With the further deepening of international cooperation and exchanges, the social demand for talents with interculturalcommunicative competence will be increasing. At present, the cultural competence of college students is far from meeting theneeds of intercultural communication. It is increasingly urgent to strengthen cultural teaching to improve the awareness and abilityof intercultural communication of College students. Teaching English should not only teach students to master the basic abilities ofEnglish listening, speaking, reading and writing, but also pay attention to the cultivation of students' intercultural communicativecompetence in order to improve college students' comprehensive English ability. This paper takes the approach of interculturalcommunication ability as the starting point, and explores the ways to cultivate students' intercultural communicative competence incollege English teaching.

On Intercultural Communicative Competence in College English Education

In the context of globalization,this paper introduces the characteristics of intercultural education,analyzes the problems existing in the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence in college English education,with a view to putting forward some corresponding cultivation strategies and providing some reference for college English reform.

Studies of communicative approach and teaching reform on college English

In pace with the constant increase of exchange with other countries, the traditional teaching approach cannot meet the demand of modem education. But the communicative approach conforms to historical trends, focusing on students and developing their overall language ability to handle changes and solve problems. English communicative competence is growingly important,however,many college graduates can't communicate smoothly in English.Therefore,the English teacher is supposed to know clearly what abilities English communicative competence should contain,namely:what ability a person needs to be able to use English to communicate effectively.To that end,a large number of relevant literatures is carefully read;the evolution of English communicative competence model is reviewed;and then an English communicative competence model,inclusive,open-ended and dynamic,is put forward to guide English teaching and learning.

Communicative language teaching(CLT),as a language teaching approach,aiming at teaching second languages for the ultimate goal of communication,has been known and widely practiced by Chinese teachers in their English teaching.But due to the limitations of both students and teachers,CLT is not executed successfully in quite a lot of higher vocational colleges.To carry it out successfully in English classrooms,the following important factors should be seriously taken into account:understanding communicative competence,class instruction in English pragmatics,teachers' role in CLT and assessment of communicative language ability.Hopefully,through discussion of these key aspects of CLT,guiding effect can be produced on improving teaching efficiency through CLT from the perspective of teachers.

Evaluation of Communicative Approach in the College English Listening Course

The traditional ways of teaching in China put emphasis on the development of reading and grammar.So students are famous for their high marks in reading and low marks in listening,and lack of communicative competence.To solve this problem,this study introduces Communicative Approach(CA) to the English listening class.In order to investigate the effects of the CA on students' listening abilities further,a 18-week comparative study on two classes is conducted.The data show that students' listening abilities and attitudes in the CA class is significantly higher and more positive than those in the traditional class,which indicates that CA is an effective approach in improving students' listening abilities compared to the traditional approach.

On the Cultivation of Chinese Middle School Students’English Communicative Competence

In order to cultivate middle school students’English communicative competence,CLT has become an influential ap⁃proach.Some ways need to be adopted such as reform of teaching materials,transformation of English teachers’role and change of students’role and testing system.

Building-up of students＇ communicative competence in spoken English teaching

In the activity of English teaching, how to improve students＇ communicative competence is always deemed as an important factor on which English teaching hinges. This paper starts from the idea of communicative competence proposed by linguist Dwell Hymes and then goes deep to find out 4 ways to apply the ideas to spoken English teaching, namely： strengthening students＇ linguistic input through comprehensible listening; getting a feel of how English is spoken idiomatically; administering the teaching materials according to students＇ current linguistic capacity and finally exposing students massively to the target culture. The Impact of Street Interviews on Chinese EFL Undergraduates’Intercultural Communicative Competence

The study adopts Byram’s Intercultural Communicative Competence(ICC)model as the theoretical framework,and structured interviews were conducted to explore the impact of street interviews on the participants’ICC.Analysis results revealed street interviews help students acquire knowledge in intercultural attitudes,intercultural knowledge,skills of discovery and interaction,and critical cultural awareness,aligning with the four components of Byram’s ICC model.Meanwhile,they have positive perceptions of street interviews.Therefore,street interviews have a positive effect on the development of participants’ICC.

Communicative Approach in College English Teaching

The basic insight of Communicative Language Teaching is that language can be thought of as a tool for communication, and language teaching should be student-centered to cultivate their communicative competence. A Summary About Practice of Communicative Approach in Real College English Teaching

It has been acknowledged by Chinese educators that in teaching English as a second language the center should be put on the improvement of students＇ communicative competence. Based on Hymes＇ theories of communicative competence, the author summarizes personal experiences and practice of the teaching method by examples and concludes that the communicative approach is very effective and helpful for students.

The Study on the Effectiveness of Communicative Language Teaching Strategies Used in College English Classes

This paper mainly aims at determining the effectiveness of CLT （Communicative Language Teaching） used in College English classes. The study utilized the descriptive research method and was conducted in Medical University for Nationalities that offers College English classes to non-English majors strategies Youjiang . Survey questionnaire was used to assess the CLT strategies. The experimental data shows that CLT strategies are very effective in improving the students＇ language proficiency. Therefore, it is recommended that CLT approach should be used intensively and extensively in the teaching of College English in China.
