Laminated composites are widely used in many engineering industries such as aircraft, spacecraft, boat hulls, racing car bodies, and storage tanks. We analyze the 3D deformations of a multilayered, linear elastic, anisotropic rectangular plate subjected to arbitrary boundary conditions on one edge and simply supported on other edge. The rectangular laminate consists of anisotropic and homogeneous laminae of arbitrary thicknesses. This study presents the elastic analysis of laminated composite plates subjected to sinusoidal mechanical loading under arbitrary boundary conditions. Least square finite element solutions for displacements and stresses are investigated using a mathematical model, called a state-space model, which allows us to simultaneously solve for these field variables in the composite structure’s domain and ensure that continuity conditions are satisfied at layer interfaces. The governing equations are derived from this model using a numerical technique called the least-squares finite element method (LSFEM). These LSFEMs seek to minimize the squares of the governing equations and the associated side conditions residuals over the computational domain. The model is comprised of layerwise variables such as displacements, out-of-plane stresses, and in- plane strains, treated as independent variables. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the response of the laminated composite plates under various arbitrary boundary conditions using LSFEM and compared with the 3D elasticity solution available in the literature. 展开更多

The influence of weights is usually ignored in the study of nonlinear vibrations of plates. In this paper, the effect of structure weights on the nonlinear vibration of a composite circular plate with a rigid body is presented. The nonlinear governing equations are derived from the generalized Hamilton's principle and the von Kármán plate theory. The equilibrium configurations due to weights are determined and validated by the finite element method(FEM).A nonlinear model for the vibration around the equilibrium configuration is established. Moreover, the natural frequencies and amplitude-frequency responses of harmonically forced vibrations are calculated. The study shows that the structure weights introduce additional linear and quadratic nonlinear terms into the dynamical model. This leads to interesting phenomena. For example, considering weights increases the natural frequency.Furthermore, when the influence of weights is considered, the vibration response of the plate becomes asymmetrical. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose an finite element approach based on classical plate theory to investigate the dynamic stability of a layered composite plate subject to nonlinear aerodynamic load. This study considers the influence of temperature, nonlinear geometry, and nonlinear aerodynamic load on composite plate structures simultaneously.Specifically, the present work conduct comparison the results of the critical pressure value between the nonlinear aerodynamic load and the linear aerodynamic load, thereby pointing out some necessary cases which must consider the nonlinearity of aerodynamic load for calculating the aerospace structures. We determine the critical pressure value and vibrational amplitude response of the plate by means of calculation. The outcomes of our calculations can be useful in designing and repairing body shells and wings of aircraft equipment. 展开更多

This research presents a finite element formulation based on four-variable refined plate theory for bending analysis of cross-ply and angle-ply laminated composite plates integrated with a piezoelectric fiber-reinforced composite actuator under electromechanical loading. The four-variable refined plate theory is a simple and efficient higher-order shear deformation theory, which predicts parabolic variation of transverse shear stresses across the plate thickness and satisfies zero traction conditions on the plate free surfaces. The weak form of governing equations is derived using the principle of minimum potential energy, and a 4-node non-conforming rectangular plate element with 8 degrees of freedom per node is introduced for discretizing the domain. Several benchmark problems are solved by the developed MATLAB code and the obtained results are compared with those from exact and other numerical solutions, showing good agreement. 展开更多

In this paper, the general equations of dynamic stability for composite laminated plates are derived hyHamilton principle. These general equations can he used to consider those different factors that affect the dynamic stability of laminated plates. The factors are transverse shear deformation, initial imperfections, longitudinal and rotational inertia, and ply-angle of the fiber, etc. The solutions of the fundamental equations show that some important characteristics of the dynamic instability can only be got by the consideration and analysis of those factors 展开更多

Free vibration analysis of symmetrically laminated composite plates resting on Pasternak elastic support and coupled with an ideal, incompressible and inviscid fluid is the objective of the present work. The fluid domain is considered to be infinite in the length direction but bounded in the depth and width directions. In order to derive the eigenvalue equation, Rayleigh-Ritz method is applied for the fluid-plate-foundation system. The efficiency of the method is proved by comparison studies with those reported in the open literature. At the end, parametric studies are carried out to examine the impact of different parameters on the natural frequencies. 展开更多

An effective hybrid optimization method is proposed by integrating an adaptive Kriging(A-Kriging)into an improved partial swarm optimization algorithm(IPSO)to give a so-called A-Kriging-IPSO for maximizing the buckling load of laminated composite plates(LCPs)under uniaxial and biaxial compressions. In this method,a novel iterative adaptive Kriging model, which is structured using two training sample sets as active and adaptive points,is utilized to directly predict the buckling load of the LCPs and to improve the efficiency of the optimization process. The active points are selected from the initial data set while the adaptive points are generated using the radial random-based convex samples. The cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method(CS-DSG3)is employed to analyze the buckling behavior of the LCPs to provide the response of adaptive and input data sets. The buckling load of the LCPs is maximized by utilizing the IPSO algorithm. To demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed methodology, the LCPs with different layers(2,3,4,and 10 layers),boundary conditions, aspect ratios and load patterns(biaxial and uniaxial loads)are investigated. The results obtained by proposed method are in good agreement with the literature results, but with less computational burden.By applying adaptive radial Kriging model, the accurate optimal resultsebased predictions of the buckling load are obtained for the studied LCPs. 展开更多

To reduce the burning loss and the spalling and to improve energy efficiency, the mullite composite lining plates were used to replace cast steel or alloy lining in rotary coke tanks for coke dry quenching equipment. The results show that:the dense mullite composite lining plate in the cone part has the density of 2.20 g·cm^(-3) and the wear test,s volume loss of 4.08 cm^(3),and the light weight mullite composite lining plate in the straight cylinder part has the density of 1.95 g·cm^(-3) and the wear test,s volume loss of 17.6 cm^(3).After using, there is no shrinkage gap,no burn loss or holes in the plates, indicating good sealing of the mullite composite lining plates. The lining plate for the cone part has low burning loss, without spalling for more than half a year. The outer surface temperature of coke tanks adopting the cast steel or the alloy lining is 480 to 570℃,while that of the ones adopting mullite composite lining plates is 120 to 170℃,showing a largely improved insulating property.Adopting mullite composite lining plates on the basis of the current coke tank cage, the lining plates can be timely treated and wholly replaced, improving the service life and reducing the maintenance workload. 展开更多

Scale effects are studied on the buckling behavior of bilayer composite plates under non-uniform uniaxial compression via the nonlocal theory. Each isotropic plate is composed of a material that is different from others, and the adhesive between the plates is modeled as the Winkler elastic medium. According to the symmetry, effects of the Winkler non-dimensional parameter, the thickness ratio, the ratio of Young's moduli, and the aspect ratio are also considered on the buckling problem of bilayer plates, where only the top plate is under the uniaxial compression. Numerical examples show that the Winkler elastic coefficient, the thickness ratio, and the ratio of Young's moduli play decisive roles in the buckling behavior. Nonlocal effect is significant when the high-order buckling mode occurs or the aspect ratio is small. 展开更多

A study of postbuckling and delamination propagation behavior in delaminated stiffened composite plates was presented. A methodology was proposed for simulating the multi-failure responses, such as initial and postbuckling, delamination onset and propagation, etc. A finite element analysis was conducted on the basis of the Mindlin first order shear effect theory and the von-Krmn nonlinear deformation assumption. The total energy release rate used as the criteria of delamination growth was estimated with virtual crack closure technique (VCCT). A self-adaptive grid moving technology was adopted to model the delamination growth process. Moreover, the contact effect along delamination front was also considered during the numerical simulation process. By some numerical examples, the influence of distribution and location of stiffener, configuration and size of the delamination, boundary condition and contact effect upon the delamination growth behavior of the stiffened composite plates were investigated. The method and numerical conclusion provided should be of great value to engineers dealing with composite structures. 展开更多

This paper deals with large amplitude free flexural vibrations of laminated composite plates using a 9-node Heterosis degenerated isoparametric quadrilateral element, including the effects of transverse shear and rotary inertia. The nonlinear dynamic equations of the plates are formulated in von Karman's sense. Amplitude-frequency relationships are obtained through dynamic response history using; the Newmark numerical integration scheme. Detailed numerical results based on various parameters are presented for orthotropic laminated plates with different boundary conditions. The rectangular anti-symmetric cross-ply plates show the softening type of nonlinearity for initial small amplitudes. Through introducing the Laplace transformation in the time direction, the mixed state Hamilton canonical equation and a semi-analytical solution are presented for analyzing the dynamic response of laminated composite plates. This method accounts for the separation of variables, the finite element discretization can be employed in the plane of laminar, and the exact solution in the thickness direction is derived by the state space control method. To apply the transfer matrix method, the relational expression at the top and bottom surface is established. So the general solution in transformation space is deduced by the spot method. Two dissimilar steel plates, structural steel and mild steel, were joined by explosion welding to form a composite. The composite was then heat-treated by quenching at 840℃ for 30 min followed by tempering at 200℃ for 3 h.The microstructure was investigated under an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The mechanical properties were measured using Vickers microhardness and Charpy impact tests. The results show a deformed interface with typical wave features at the welding zone, but no defects were observed. Moreover, the ferrite in the parent plate in the weld zone was elongated due to the strong plastic deformation from the explosion. After heat treatment, the hardness of the flyer plate(structural steel)was over HV0.2800,while that of the parent plate(mild steel)was HV0.2200.The increase in hardness was due to the presence of martensite. Moreover, the average impact energy was increased from 18.5 to 44.0 J following heat treatment;this is because of the formation of recrystallized grains at the weld interface, which is due to the dynamic recovery and local recrystallization, and the strong elemental diffusion that occurred between the two plates. 展开更多

The purpose of the present study is to examine the impact of initial geometric imperfection on the nonlinear dynamical characteristics of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC) rectangular plates under a harmonic excitation transverse load. The considered plate is assumed to be made of matrix and single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs). The rule of mixture is employed to calculate the effective material properties of the plate. Within the framework of the parabolic shear deformation plate theory with taking the influence of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia into account, Hamilton’s principle is utilized to derive the geometrically nonlinear mathematical formulation including the governing equations and corresponding boundary conditions of initially imperfect FG-CNTRC plates. Afterwards, with the aid of an efficient multistep numerical solution methodology, the frequency-amplitude and forcing-amplitude curves of initially imperfect FG-CNTRC rectangular plates with various edge conditions are provided, demonstrating the influence of initial imperfection, geometrical parameters, and edge conditions. It is displayed that an increase in the initial geometric imperfection intensifies the softening-type behavior of system, while no softening behavior can be found in the frequency-amplitude curve of a perfect plate. 展开更多
