The surface free energy and adhesion work of polymeric bonding agents and nitramine fillers were calculated by using Kaeble′s equations. It was observed that the hydroxyl values of neutral polymeric bonding agents (NPBA) correlate well with the polar components of surface free energies. On the basis of the measurements of swelling ratio and initial modulus, the interfacial bonding through highly crosslinked polymeric shell formation around the nitramine particles and generating interfacial reinforcement were rationalized. The application of Tapping Mode AFM (atomic force micro scope) to observing the surface morphology of NPBA reveals that methyl acrylate monomer appears to play a role for aiding the formation of network like structure when nanometer scale images of NPBA are created.展开更多

The results show that the surface broken bonds properties could be used to predict the cleavage nature of most of minerals, and the predicted cleavage planes agree well with those reported in previous literature. Moreover, this work explored a rule that, surface broken bonds density is directly related to surface energy with determination coefficient(R2) of over 0.8, indicating that the former is a dominant factor to determine the latter. Therefore, anisotropic surface broken bonds density can be used to predict the stability of mineral surface and the reactivity of surface atoms.展开更多

Results show that the positively charged surface dangling bond on Ga atom is the most stable defect for both ultrathin and large size GaAs nanowires. It can form the trap centers of holes and then prefer to capture the holes from p-type doping. Thus it could obviously reduce the efficiency of the p-type doping. We also found that the NO2 molecule is electronegative enough to capture the unpaired electrons of surface dangling bonds, which is an ideal passivation material for the Zn-doped GaAs nanowires.展开更多

Eighty extracted human maxillary central incisors and canines were endodontically treated and standardized post spaces were prepared. Four post pre-treatments were tested: (i) no pre-treatment (NS, control), (ii) sandblasting (SA), (iii) silanization (SI) and (iv) sandblasting followed by silanization (SS). Per pre-treatment, four dual-cure resin cements were used for luting posts: DMG LUXACORE Smartmix Dual, Multilink Automix, RelyX Unicem and Panavia F2.0. All the specimens were subjected to micro push-out test. Two-way analysis of variance and Tukey post hoc tests were performed (α=0.05) to analyze the data. Bond strength was significantly affected by the type of resin cement, and bond strengths of RelyX Unicem and Panavia F2.0 to the fiber posts were significantly higher than the other cement groups. Sandblasting significantly increased the bond strength of DMG group to the fiber posts.展开更多

Dentin substrates were obtained with twenty specimens for each locationgrit combination. Superficial dentin was exposed and prepared to 120-, 320-, or 600-grit SiC;the dentin surfaces were treated with Optibond Solo Plus (Kerr) and polymerized for 20 s. The specimens were placed in a jig, filled with resin composite Z100 (3M-ESPE), polymerized for 40 s according to manufacturer’s instructions, and stored for 24 h at 37℃ and 100% humidity. After 24 h, SBS was measured using a loading testing machine (Ul-tradent) and expressed in megapascals. A two-way ANOVA and Tukey test were used for data analysis. No statistically significant effect of the location (P = 0.254) or interaction grit-location (P = 0.629) were observed on SBS. Statistically significant effect of the grit on the SBS was detected (P < 0.001) with 320-grit being statistically different from 600-grit (P = 0.011) and 120-grit (P < 0.001). No significant differences were observed between 600-grit and 120-grit (P = 0.413). Regardless of the location, 320-grit consistently showed the lowest SBS indicating that different surface grit preparations have an effect on dentin SBS values.展开更多

Their application to the vehicle structure is typically via a combination of either mechanical or fusion joining with adhesive bonding. Correspondingly, there has been a large effort in improving the adhesive bonding characteristics by changing the surface properties using different surface treatment techniques. One such method is the atmospheric arc discharge process which develops a specific surface roughness which can be leveraged to improve adhesive bonding. In this paper the effect of a textured surface by arc discharge on the failure mode and strength of adhesively bonded aluminum alloy sheets is investigated. A single-lap joint configuration is used for simulation and experimental analysis. A two-dimensional (2D) finite element method (FEM) involving the morphology of treated surfaces and using interfacial elements based on a cohesive zone model (CZM) are used to predict the joint strength which is an enabler for faster product development cycles. The influence of arc process parameters: the arc current and the torch scanning speed, on the surface morphology and joint strength are explored in this study. Specifically, the present study shows that the surface treatment of aluminum alloys by arc discharge can strongly enhance adhesive bond strength. Additionally, arc treatment not only increases the joint strength but also improves the quality of bond along the interface (transition toward cohesive failure mode). The current FE simulation of adhesive joint using the elastic and elasto-plastic (non-linear) material properties for adherend and adhesive, respectively, and cohesive zone elements for interface shows an accurate prediction of the resulting joint strength. By inclusion of non-linear multi-scale geometry model via considering the surface topographical changes after surface treatment the FE joint strength prediction can be successfully implemented.展开更多

The chemical composition on the surface of wood with or without N2 cold plasma treatment was also studied by X-ray photoelectron spec- troscopy (XPS). The results showed: the contact angles of the surface decreased; the surface free energy increased evidently that treated by N2 or O2 cold plasma; the average bonding performance of wood that treated by cold plasma (whether N2 or O2) increased obviously and more than 50% was proved compared with that un- treated by cold plasma. The XPS analysis showed the atomic ratio O/C has in- creased, and more groups were oxidized or more peroxides were formed on the surface of wood; N element was introduced to the wood surface after nitrogen cold plasma treatment and it was estimated to the group of -NH2.展开更多

The microstructure of the bonding interface was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The mechanical properties of the specimen were investigated by a shear strength test. The results indicated that the shear strength was improved with the increase of superplastic deformation reduction. When the deformation reduction was up to 50%, the shear strength of the specimen achieved 417 Mpa, approaching to that of the base metal. In addtion, the superplastic diffusion bonding technique was not very sensitive to surface roughness levels. When the surface roughness of the bonding specimen surpassed 0.416 pan (level G2), the shear strength achieved at least 381 MPa.展开更多

It can form the trap centers of holes and then prefer to capture the holes from p-type doping. Thus it could obviously reduce the efficiency of the p-type doping. We also found that the NO2 molecule is electronegative enough to capture the unpaired electrons of surface dangling bonds, which is an ideal passivation material for the Zn-doped GaAs nanowires.

文摘In this study, we evaluate the influence of post surface pre-treatments on the bond strength of four different cements to glass fiber posts. Sandblasting significantly increased the bond strength of DMG group to the fiber posts.
文摘Since the D-band center theory was proposed,it has been widely used in the fields of surface chemistry by almost all researchers, due to its easy understanding, convenient operation and relative accuracy. However, with the continuous development of material systems and modification strategies, researchers have gradually found that D-band center theory is usually effective for large metal particle systems, but for small metal particle systems or semiconductors, such as single atom systems, the opposite conclusion to the D-band center theory is often obtained. To solve the issue above, here we propose a bonding and anti-bonding orbitals stable electron intensity difference(BASED)theory for surface chemistry. The newly-proposed BASED theory can not only successfully explain the abnormal phenomena of D-band center theory, but also exhibits a higher accuracy for prediction of adsorption energy and bond length of intermediates on active sites.Importantly,a new phenomenon of the spin transition state in the adsorption process is observed based on the BASED theory, where the active center atom usually yields an unstable high spin transition state to enhance its adsorption capability in the adsorption process of intermediates when their distance is about 2.5Å.In short, the BASED theory can be considered as a general principle to understand catalytic mechanism of intermediates on surfaces.

文摘The application of fiber reinforced plastic(FRP),including carbon FRP and glass FRP,for structural repair and strengthening has grown due to their numerous advantages over conventional materials such as externally bonded reinforcement(EBR) and near-surface mounted(NSM) strengthening techniques. This paper summarizes the results from 21 reinforced concrete beams strengthened with different methods, including externally-bonded and near-surface mounted FRP,to study the strain coordination of the FRP and steel rebar of the RC beam.Since there is relative slipping between the RC beam and the FRP,the strain of the FRP and steel rebar of the RC beam satisfy the quasi-plane-hypothesis;that is,the strain of the longitudinal fiber that parallels the neutral axis of the plated beam within the scope of the effective height(h 0) of the cross section is in direct proportion to the distance from the fiber to the neutral axis. The strain of the FRP and steel rebar satisfies the equation:ε FRP =βε steel, and the value of β is equal to 1.1-1.3 according to the test results.
文摘The effect of different types of surface preparation with SiC abrasive paper on the shear bond strength (SBS) of superficial bovine dentin obtained from the incisal, middle and cervical thirds were evaluated. Regardless of the location, 320-grit consistently showed the lowest SBS indicating that different surface grit preparations have an effect on dentin SBS values.
文摘Aluminum alloys are being increasingly applied in the automotive industry as a means to reduce mass. By inclusion of non-linear multi-scale geometry model via considering the surface topographical changes after surface treatment the FE joint strength prediction can be successfully implemented.

文摘In the test, woods were treated by N2, O2 cold plasma with the processing power 300 W, which last for 5 min; subsequently, the treated woods were bonded with MUF to valve the bonding performance, the contact angles of the treated/un- treated wood were tested. The XPS analysis showed the atomic ratio O/C has in- creased, and more groups were oxidized or more peroxides were formed on the surface of wood; N element was introduced to the wood surface after nitrogen cold plasma treatment and it was estimated to the group of -NH2.
文摘The superplastic deformation diffusion bonding of 00Cr25Ni7Mo3N duplex stainless steel was performed on a hot simulator. When the surface roughness of the bonding specimen surpassed 0.416 pan (level G2), the shear strength achieved at least 381 MPa.

文摘The effects of SiCp surface modifications(Cu coating,Ni coating and Ni/Cu coating)on the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al matrix composites were investigated.Surface modification of SiC particles with Cu,Ni and Cu/Ni,respectively,was carried out by electroless plating method.SiCp/Al composites were prepared by hot pressed sintering followed by hot extrusion. The results show that the surface modification of SiC particles plays an effective role, which is relative to the type of surface coating, and the interfacial bonding become stronger in the following order:untreated SiCp<Ni(Cu)-coated SiCp<Ni/Cu-coated SiCp.The Ni/Cu-coated SiCp/Al composites exhibit the best comprehensive mechanical properties, with ultimate tensile strength(σUTS)and fracture strain(εf)of 389 MPa and 6.3%,respectively.Compared with that of untreated-SiCp/Al composites, theσUTS andεf are enhanced by 19.3%and 57.5%.
