The common failure mechanism for brittle rocks is known to be axial splitting which happens parallel to the direction of maximum compression. One of the mechanisms proposed for modelling of axial splitting is the sliding crack or so called, “wing crack” model. Fairhurst-Cook model explains this specific type of failure which starts by a pre-crack and finally breaks the rock by propagating 2-D cracks under uniaxial compression. In this paper, optimization of this model has been considered and the process has been done by a complete sensitivity analysis on the main parameters of the model and excluding the trends of their changes and also their limits and “peak points”. Later on this paper, three artificial intelligence algorithms including Particle Swarm Intelligence (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and genetic algorithm (GA) has been used and compared in order to achieve optimized sets of parameters resulting in near-maximum or near-minimum amounts of wedging forces creating a wing crack. 展开更多

This paper establishes a mathematical model of multi-objective optimization with behavior constraints in solid space based on the problem of optimal design of hydraulic manifold blocks (HMB). Due to the limitation of its local search ability of genetic algorithm (GA) in solving a massive combinatorial optimization problem, simulated annealing (SA) is combined, the multi-parameter concatenated coding is adopted, and the memory function is added. Thus a hybrid genetic-simulated annealing with memory function is formed. Examples show that the modified algorithm can improve the local search ability in the solution space, and the solution quality. 展开更多

Optimization of the process parameters is conducted using the genetic algorithm (GA). The experimental results have shown that a surface model of the neural network can describe the nonlinear implicit relationship between the parameters of the power spinning process:the wall margin and amount of expansion. It has been found that the process of determining spinning technological parameters can be accelerated using the optimization method developed based on the BP neural network and the genetic algorithm used for the process parameters of power spinning formation. Accurate stereo vision calibration is a preliminary step towards high-precision visual posi- tioning of robot. Combining with the characteristics of genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO), a three-stage calibration method based on hybrid intelligent optimization is pro- posed for nonlinear camera models in this paper. The motivation is to improve the accuracy of the calibration process. In this approach, the stereo vision calibration is considered as an optimization problem that can be solved by the GA and PSO. The initial linear values can be obtained in the frost stage. Then in the second stage, two cameras' parameters are optimized separately. Finally, the in- tegrated optimized calibration of two models is obtained in the third stage. Direct linear transforma- tion (DLT), GA and PSO are individually used in three stages. It is shown that the results of every stage can correctly find near-optimal solution and it can be used to initialize the next stage. Simula- tion analysis and actual experimental results indicate that this calibration method works more accu- rate and robust in noisy environment compared with traditional calibration methods. The proposed method can fulfill the requirements of robot sophisticated visual operation. 展开更多

In order to increase the robust performance of electro-hydraulic servo system, the system transfer function was identified by the intergration algorithm of genetic algorithm and ant colony optimization(GA-ACO), which was based on standard genetic algorithm and combined with positive feedback mechanism of ant colony algorithm. This method can obtain the precise mathematic model of continuous rotary motor which determines the order of servo system. Firstly, by constructing an appropriate fitness function, the problem of system parameters identification is converted into the problem of system parameter optimization. Secondly, in the given upper and lower bounds a set of optimal parameters are selected to meet the best approximation of the actual system. And the result shows that the identification output can trace the sampling output of actual system, and the error is very small. In addition, another set of experimental data are used to test the identification result. The result shows that the identification parameters can approach the actual system. The experimental results verify the feasibility of this method. And it is fit for the parameter identification of general complex system using the integration algorithm of GA-ACO. 展开更多

This paper presents a powerful application of genetic algorithm (GA) for the minimization of the total harmonic current distortion (THCD) in high-power induction motors fed by voltage source inverters, based on an approximate harmonic model. That is, having defined a desired fundamental output voltage, optimal pulse patterns (switching angles) are determined to produce the fundamental output voltage while minimizing the THCD. The complete results for the two cases of three and five switching instants in the first quarter period of pulse width modulation (PWM) waveform are presented. Presence of harmonics in the stator excitation leads to a pulsing-torque component. Considering the fact that if the pulsing-torques are at low frequencies, they can cause troublesome speed fluctuations, shaft fatigue, and unsatisfactory performance in the feedback control system, the 5th, 7th, 11th, and 13th current harmonics (in the case of five switching angles) are constrained at some pre-specified values, to mitigate the detrimental effects of low-frequency harmonics. A new hybrid optimization method based on genetic algorithm(GA)and seeker optimization algorithm(SOA)is presented in this paper.The hybrid algorithm optimizes SOA by using crossover and mutation operations in GA in order to improve the global search ability of SOA.Four algorithms,i.e.particle swarm optimization(PSO),SOA,GA and quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization(GA-QPSO)and GA-SOA are used to process the simulation and experimental data of Brillouin scattering spectrum(BSS)at different temperatures.The results show that GA-SOA improves the accuracy of extracting the center frequency shift and the minimum center frequency of Brillouin scattering spectrum compared with other three algorithms.The shift error is 0.203 MHz.Therefore,GA-SOA can be applied to the accurate extraction of BSS characteristics. 展开更多

The definition domain of the most important three parameters are ascertained by preparatory mathematical simulation, the optimized mathematical model of ERGM maximum range with boundary conditions is created, and parameter optimization based on genetic algorithm (GA) is adopted. In the GA design, three-point crossover is used and the best chromosome is kept so that the convergence speed becomes rapid. In this study, we develop a new meta-heuristic-based approach to solve a multi-objective optimization problem, namely the reliability-redundancy allocation problem (RRAP). Further, we develop a new simulation process to generate practical tools for designing reliable series-parallel systems. Because the?RRAP is an NP-hard problem, conventional techniques or heuristics cannot be used to find the optimal solution. We propose a genetic algorithm (GA)-based hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm, namely the hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA), to find the optimal solution. A simulation process based on the HGA is developed to obtain different alternative solutions that are required to generate application tools for optimal design of reliable series-parallel systems. Finally, a practical case study regarding security control of a gas turbine in the overspeed state is presented to validate the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

In a cellular network,direct Device-to-Device(D2D)communication enhances Quality of Service(QoS)in terms of coverage,throughput and amount of power consumed.Since theD2D pairs involve cellular resources for communication,the chances of interference are high.D2D communications demand minimum interference along with maximum throughput and sum rate which can be achieved by employing optimal resources and efficient power allocation procedures.In this research,a hybrid optimization model called Genetic Algorithm-Adaptive Bat Optimization(GA-ABO)algorithm is proposed for efficient resource allocation in a cellular network with D2D communication.Simulation analysis demonstrates that the proposed model involves reduced interference with maximum sum rate and throughput.The performance of the proposed model is compared with the existing Ant Colony Optimization-based resource exchange and GAME(ACO-GAME)theory models,Trader-assistedResource EXchange mechanism-RadioAccess Network(TREX-RAN)and De-centralized Radio Access Network(TREXDRAN),and greedy CYcle-Complete preferences(CYC)models.The proposed model offers a maximum sum rate of 83 kB/s,which is much better than the existing techniques. 展开更多

Frequency selective surface (FSS) is a two-dimensional periodic structure which has promiaent characteristics of bandpass or bandbloek when interacting with electromagnetic waves. In this paper, the thickness, the dielectric constant, the element graph and the arrangement periodicity of an FSS medium are investigated by Genetic Algorithm (GA) when an electromagnetic wave is incident on the FSS at a wide angle, and an optimized FSS structure and transmission characteristics are obtained. The results show that the optimized structure has better stability in relation to incident angle of electromagnetic wave and preserves the stability of centre frequency even at an incident angle as large as 80°, thereby laying the foundation for the application of FSS to curved surfaces at wide angles. 展开更多

This paper presents a method for optimal sizing of an off-grid hybrid microgrid (MG) system in order to achieve a certain load demand. The hybrid MG is made of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, wind turbine (TW) and energy storage system (ESS). The reliability of the MG system is modeled based on the loss of power supply probability (SPSP). For optimization, an enhanced Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to minimize the total cost of the system over a 20-year period, while satisfying some reliability and operation constraints. A case study addressing optimal sizing of an off-grid hybrid microgrid in Nigeria is discussed. The result is compared with results obtained from the Brute Force and standard GA methods. 展开更多

The actual burst pressure is calculated using the arc-length and restart analysis in finite element analysis (FEA). A penalty function in the fitness function is proposed to deal with the constrained problem. The effects of the population size and the number of generations in the GA on the weight and burst pressure of the vessel are explored. The optimization results using the proposed GA are also compared with those using the simple GA and the conventional Monte Carlo method. 展开更多

IIR filter is essentially a digital filter with Recursive responses. Since the error surface of digital IIR filters is generally nonlinear and multimodal, global optimization techniques are required in order to avoid local minima. This paper presents heuristic way for the designing IIR filters. GA is a powerful global optimization algorithm introduced in combinatorial optimization problems. The paper finds the optimum Coefficients of IIR digital filter through GA. Design of Lowpass and High pass IIR digital filter is proposed to provide estimate of transition band. It is found that the calculated values are more optimal than fda tool available for the design of filter in MATLAB. The simulation result of the employed examples shows an improvement on transition band and mean-square-error (MSE). The position of pole-zero is also presented to describe stability and results are compared with Simulated Annealing (SA) method. 展开更多
