Physical Education Teaching Assistant Perceptions on Classroom Management and Teaching Effectiveness

This research examined graduate students in physical education TA （teaching assistant） positions instructing lower level classes, and how classroom management skills prior to student teaching may improve the quality of TA classroom instruction. A survey was conducted with TA graduate students instructing lower level classes and an examination of their opinions and open mindedness as to the idea of education in leadership methods and class management to improve the quality of TA instruction. The following questions were examined in the survey： comparative importance between classroom management and mastery of skills, having detailed knowledge of a subject to teach entry level classes in this subject or having leadership capabilities to successfully manage the class, and knowledge level of the subjects they are teaching. This study revealed that most TAs believe that knowing and developing classroom management skills can help enhance their efficiency of content delivery for students. Thus, it is imperative for colleges and universities to seek highly qualified individuals with TA positions while providing training to improve their classroom management and leadership skills. The authors offer suggestions for development of TAs further.

The Application of the Computer Assisted Instruction(CAI) in English Teaching in High Schools

On the basis of the brief introduction to CAI and some its distinctive features,this paper minutely arrives at the principles of the application of CAI in high schools and analyses the implication brought about by its application.This research is to provide a further help for English teachers in high shools,so that the students can effectively improve the level of English language learning.

How a Computer Assists English Teaching and Learning among Vocational Colleges

"College English Curriculum Requirements", edited by Department of Higher Education(2007), put forward clearly one of the key points of the national College English teaching reform was to strengthen the application of computer to college English teaching and apply computer-and-classroom-based English teaching mode, improving the previous mode dominated by a single teacher. Most colleges and universities in China have basically achieved the popularity of computer multimedia classrooms and campus networks. However, according to researches(Xia, 2002), most teachers still hold the main role of them in classes as"language interpreter"and"language instructor". Although advanced computer technology has been provided, most teachers feel confused or difficult in using it to assist their English teaching efficiently. As a consequence, computer technology fail to play its role in English classes. Driven by the great development of science and technology, computer has brought about incredible changes in every aspect of social life since 1980 s. In current times, almost every aspect of college students' life has been closely associated with computer. However, in most situations, computer is not taken as a typical language learning tool in their daily life. It is known that most students' English basis is relatively weak in vocational colleges; meanwhile, the way in which they learned English during the middle school period was basically translation- based teaching. Thus they have little or even no interest in English learning at all. In this way, discovering a new and interesting way with the aid of computer to learn English is of essential importance. Based on this, the paper discusses five major aspects under the circumstance of computer-assisted English learning. It is hoped that vocational college English teaching and learning can become more efficient by means of computer technology, finally students' English learning motivation and English competence can be enhanced to a great extent.

Application of Multimedia Assisted Instruction （MAI） in Junior High Schools English Classroom Teaching

In a view of the current problems of English teaching in junior high schools, this paper introduces MAI （Multimedia Assisted Instruction） of English teaching and explores the functions of MAI. Through actual using MAI in the teaching of listening and speaking, reading and writing classes in the junior high schools, it is concluded that application of MAI is not only feasible but also effective.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants acting as cultural ambassadors on the campus

Many language instructors in colleges and universities around the world have teaching assistants to help them with the teaching. Since 1968, the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant （FLTA） program has aimed to strengthen foreign language instruction at U.S. educational institutions by establishing a native speaker presence. As one of the first group of Fulbright Chinese Language Assistants, the author worked at the College of Wooster in the United States from August, 2005 to May, 2006. At the beginning of the paper, the author gave a brief introduction of Fulbright FLTA program. Then the author described five cultural activities that Fulbright FLTAs could employ in foreign language learners＇ learning process： giving presentations, teaching songs, watching movies, organizing free tea or coffee breaks, and holding free talks. The following section discussed two phenomena that FLTAs should avoid, that is, ethnocentrism and cultural stereotyping. The author pointed out in the conclusion that Fulbright language assistants should make efforts to be qualified cultural ambassadors.

AR-assisted children book for smart teaching and learning of Turkish alphabets

Background Augmented reality(AR),virtual reality(VR),and remote-controlled devices are driving the need for a better 5 G infrastructure to support faster data transmission.In this study,mobile AR is emphasized as a viable and widespread solution that can be easily scaled to millions of end-users and educators because it is lightweight and low-cost and can be implemented in a cross-platform manner.Low-efficiency smart devices and high latencies for real-time interactions via regular mobile networks are primary barriers to the use of AR in education.New 5 G cellular networks can mitigate some of these issues via network slicing,device-to-device communication,and mobile edge computing.Methods In this study,we use a new technology to solve some of these problems.The proposed software monitors image targets on a printed book and renders 3 D objects and alphabetic models.In addition,the application considers phonetics.The sound(phonetic)and 3 D representation of a letter are played as soon as the image target is detected.3 D models of the Turkish alphabet are created by using Adobe Photoshop with Unity 3 D and Vuforia SDK.Results The proposed application teaches Turkish alphabets and phonetics by using 3 D object models,3 D letters,and 3 D phrases,including letters and sounds.

Research on the Application of CAI Computer Technology in the Teaching of Western Art History

The purpose of the computer aided instruction(CAI)is to improve the teachers'teaching efficiency and stimulate the students'interests in their learning.By using the modem means of the computer aided instruction(CAI),we can do a better job in our teaching.The application of the computer-aided instruction(CAI)in the art teaching should be guided by the new ideas and concepts in the best environment for the students to leam in the most efficient and intuitive way to promote the development of the educational modernization.The current situation of the CAI courseware assistant teaching is good as a whole,but there are still some shortcomings in three aspects:the teachers'CAI skill proficiency,the integration and sharing of the CAI teaching resources,and the frequency of the CAI courseware teaching.The teaching of the art history needs to be improved.

Capacity Building Needs for Manual and Computer Assisted Teaching of Pattern Drafting for Entrepreneurship in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria

This study investigated the capacity building needs for manual and computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting for entrepreneurship in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.The study was conducted and guided by two research questions and two hypotheses.This study adopted an ex-post facto research design.The population for the study consisted of 131 Home Economics lecturers from the Universities,Polytechnic,and Colleges of Education in South East Nigeria.The entire population was studied because of its manageable size,hence there was no sampling.The results of this study showed that the Home Economics lecturers are competent in drafting patterns using manual method.Technical skills required for lecturers of Home Economics to advance from manual to computer-assisted teaching of pattern drafting were identified.They include ability to grade patterns,ability to use software packages,and ability to discuss procedures of pattern drafting among others.Based on the findings,it was recommended among others that computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting should be incorporated and applied by Home Economics lecturers to ensure that students acquire technical skills that will enable them to enter into entrepreneurship.

Focus on the Language Learner and Multimedia Assisted Language Teaching

当外语教师在试图寻找一种合适的外语教学方法的时候,他们会经常失望的发现现存的教学方法没有一种单独使用效果好并且能够满足所有学习者的要求,放之天下而皆准。因此,第二语言教学将目光从研究教学法中转移到研究学习者的身上来,关注学生的智力、学能、认知风格、学习策略等方面,以便最大限度地帮助学生。笔者从语言学、心理学、二语习得理论及人本主义教学理论等方面探讨了以学习者为中心这一教学原则的理论基础及其集中体现了这一教学思想的多媒体辅助教学。

Advantages and Main Problems of Multimedia-Assisted Teaching Method in College English Teaching

As the information age commenced in the late 20th century.English is using rapidly as a universal language all over the world.However,Chinese English teacher faces many troubles in original teaching method.Multimedia-aided teaching method,based on multimedia and network technologies,comes into being.With its rich content and vivid forms,teachers can change the boring learning condition and atmosphere by means of pictures,sounds,images and so on.The advantages and disadvantages of it are analyzed in this paper.And then concluded that only by use it rationally,can the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

A Discussion of Middle School English Teaching and Learning Based on the Multimedia

Multimedia plays a very important role in English teaching, but teachers always place undue reliance on multimedia or completely ignore the use of multimedia in middle school English teaching. First, this paper discusses the importance of multimedia. Secondly, it presents several helpful methods for middle school English teaching by using multimedia. Finally, it shows how to effectively use these methods in middle school English class. The purpose of this discussion is to facilitate students in learning process in middle school English learning and improve the effect of English language teaching in middle school.

Book Review: Teaching Secondary English with ICT

With the incorporation of ICT(Information and Communication Technology), English teaching is faced with many opportunities and challenges. The debates about ICT and English teaching are centered on the way of using ICT in English classroom and the extent to which ICT can assist English teaching. In addition, more and more attention is drawn to how ICT shapes new language and literature experience within the English classroom. Many books are published to contribute to this field. Among them, the book 'Teaching Secondary English with ICT' edited by Anthony Adams and Sue Brindley places its focus on using ICT in secondary English classroom.

Transfer of University English Teacher Roles in the Web-based Teaching Environment

At present, one of the important tasks of the ongoing college English teaching reform is to reform the traditional teaching mode,establishing the computer-based multimedia English teaching model. Based on the constructivist theory and the second language acquisi-tion theory, teachers who adopt the new teaching model should play multiple roles to maximize the teaching effect, being not only thecourse designer, organizer, but also the guide, helper and facilitator in the process of teaching students to construct knowledge and be en-gaged in classroom activities as well.

人机交互理念下CAT+MT+PE师生协同翻译模式探索

随着计算机辅助翻译工具(CAT)和神经网络机器翻译技术(NMT)的迅速发展,基于计算机辅助翻译工具的机器翻译+译后编辑模式(CAT+MT+PE)日益成为语言服务行业的主流翻译模式。本文在总结师生图书翻译项目实践经验的基础上,从人机交互角度提出以在线CAT工具为翻译生产平台的师生协同翻译模式,继而分析了该协同翻译模式的三大优势以及仍需改进和优化的不足之处。研究结论认为,图书翻译应用机器翻译的译后编辑凸显了工具理性和价值理性的融合,符合Web2.0时代人机交互新理念以及"互联网+"时代的翻译生产模式和译后编辑能力培养新模式。
