A survey was conducted with TA graduate students instructing lower level classes and an examination of their opinions and open mindedness as to the idea of education in leadership methods and class management to improve the quality of TA instruction. The following questions were examined in the survey: comparative importance between classroom management and mastery of skills, having detailed knowledge of a subject to teach entry level classes in this subject or having leadership capabilities to successfully manage the class, and knowledge level of the subjects they are teaching. This study revealed that most TAs believe that knowing and developing classroom management skills can help enhance their efficiency of content delivery for students. Thus, it is imperative for colleges and universities to seek highly qualified individuals with TA positions while providing training to improve their classroom management and leadership skills. The authors offer suggestions for development of TAs further.展开更多

Most colleges and universities in China have basically achieved the popularity of computer multimedia classrooms and campus networks. However, according to researches(Xia, 2002), most teachers still hold the main role of them in classes as"language interpreter"and"language instructor". Although advanced computer technology has been provided, most teachers feel confused or difficult in using it to assist their English teaching efficiently. As a consequence, computer technology fail to play its role in English classes. Driven by the great development of science and technology, computer has brought about incredible changes in every aspect of social life since 1980 s. In current times, almost every aspect of college students' life has been closely associated with computer. However, in most situations, computer is not taken as a typical language learning tool in their daily life. It is known that most students' English basis is relatively weak in vocational colleges; meanwhile, the way in which they learned English during the middle school period was basically translation- based teaching. Thus they have little or even no interest in English learning at all. In this way, discovering a new and interesting way with the aid of computer to learn English is of essential importance. Based on this, the paper discusses five major aspects under the circumstance of computer-assisted English learning. Since 1968, the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program has aimed to strengthen foreign language instruction at U.S. educational institutions by establishing a native speaker presence. As one of the first group of Fulbright Chinese Language Assistants, the author worked at the College of Wooster in the United States from August, 2005 to May, 2006. At the beginning of the paper, the author gave a brief introduction of Fulbright FLTA program. Then the author described five cultural activities that Fulbright FLTAs could employ in foreign language learners' learning process: giving presentations, teaching songs, watching movies, organizing free tea or coffee breaks, and holding free talks. The following section discussed two phenomena that FLTAs should avoid, that is, ethnocentrism and cultural stereotyping. Background Augmented reality(AR),virtual reality(VR),and remote-controlled devices are driving the need for a better 5 G infrastructure to support faster data transmission.In this study,mobile AR is emphasized as a vi...Background Augmented reality(AR),virtual reality(VR),and remote-controlled devices are driving the need for a better 5 G infrastructure to support faster data transmission.In this study,mobile AR is emphasized as a viable and widespread solution that can be easily scaled to millions of end-users and educators because it is lightweight and low-cost and can be implemented in a cross-platform manner.Low-efficiency smart devices and high latencies for real-time interactions via regular mobile networks are primary barriers to the use of AR in education.New 5 G cellular networks can mitigate some of these issues via network slicing,device-to-device communication,and mobile edge computing.Methods In this study,we use a new technology to solve some of these problems.The proposed software monitors image targets on a printed book and renders 3 D objects and alphabetic models.In addition,the application considers phonetics.The sound(phonetic)and 3 D representation of a letter are played as soon as the image target is detected.3 D models of the Turkish alphabet are created by using Adobe Photoshop with Unity 3 D and Vuforia SDK.Results The proposed application teaches Turkish alphabets and phonetics by using 3 D object models,3 D letters,and 3 D phrases,including letters and sounds.展开更多

This study investigated the capacity building needs for manual and computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting for entrepreneurship in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.The study was conducted and guided by two rese...This study investigated the capacity building needs for manual and computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting for entrepreneurship in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.The study was conducted and guided by two research questions and two hypotheses.This study adopted an ex-post facto research design.The population for the study consisted of 131 Home Economics lecturers from the Universities,Polytechnic,and Colleges of Education in South East Nigeria.The entire population was studied because of its manageable size,hence there was no sampling.The results of this study showed that the Home Economics lecturers are competent in drafting patterns using manual method.Technical skills required for lecturers of Home Economics to advance from manual to computer-assisted teaching of pattern drafting were identified.They include ability to grade patterns,ability to use software packages,and ability to discuss procedures of pattern drafting among others.Based on the findings,it was recommended among others that computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting should be incorporated and applied by Home Economics lecturers to ensure that students acquire technical skills that will enable them to enter into entrepreneurship.展开更多
