Precipitation has an important impact on the process of surface energy balance and the energy-water transfer within soils. To clarify the thermal-moisture dynamics and thermal stability of the active layer in permafrost regions under wet/dry conditions, the verified water-vapour-heat coupling model was used. Changes in the surface energy balance, energy-water transfer within the soil, and thickness of the active layer were quantitatively analyzed. The results demonstrate that rainfall changes significantly affect the Bowen ratio, which in turn affects surface energy exchange. Under wet/dry conditions, there is a positive correlation between rainfall and liquid water flux under the hydraulic gradient;water vapour migration is the main form under the temperature gradient, which indicates that the influence of water vapour migration on thermalmoisture dynamics of the active layer cannot be neglected. Concurrently, regardless of wet or dry conditions, disturbance of the heat transport by conduction caused by rainfall is stronger than that of convection by liquid water. In addition, when rainfall decreases by 1.5 times(212 mm) and increases by 1.5 times(477 mm), the thickness of the active layer increases by 0.12 m and decreases by 0.21 m, respectively. The results show that dry conditions are not conducive to the preservation of frozen soil;however, wet conditions are conducive to the preservation of frozen soil, although there is a threshold value. When this threshold value is exceeded, rainfall is unfavourable for the development of frozen soil.展开更多

To comprehensively understand the water-sensitivity of mudstone and reveal its infuence on slope stability, we took the working slope containing water-sensitive mudstone of Shengli No.1 open-pit coal mine in Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia, China, as an example. Mudstone samples taken from the working slope were remodeled and saturated, and then triaxial tested to obtain the efective cohesion and efective internal friction angle. The flter paper method was used to obtain the soil–water characteristic curve of unsaturated mudstone. The pore structure of mudstone samples with diferent water contents were analyzed using the mercury intrusion porosimetry tests combined with the fractal dimension. The total pore content of the mudstone sample with lower water content is greater than that of the mudstone sample with higher water content. The mesopores are more in the mudstone sample with lower water content, while the small pores are more in the mudstone sample with higher water content. The variation of water content will change the complexity of mudstone pore structure. The higher the water content, the simpler the mudstone pore structure and the smoother the pore surface. Numerical calculations were conducted on the stability of the working slope under diferent rainfall conditions. The efective saturation on the mudstone layer surface changed and the plastic strain all occurred on the mudstone steps under diferent rainfall conditions. The key to preventing landslide of the slope containing water-sensitive mudstone in Shengli No.1 open-pit coal mine is to control the deformation and sliding of the mudstone layer.展开更多

This is done in the attractor backgrounds(moduli). We find certain highly non-generic behaviors of marginal stability walls(a key notion in the study of wall crossings)in the space of stability conditions. These correspond via mirror symmetry to some nongeneric behaviors of special Lagrangians in an attractor background. The main results can be understood as a mirror correspondence in a synthesis of the homological mirror conjecture and SYZ mirror conjecture.展开更多

In this work, we discuss the instability of THz plasma waves in the channel of FETs with spin and quantum effects under non-ideal boundary conditions. We obtain a linear dispersion relation by using the hydrodynamic equation, Maxwell equation and spin equation. The influence of source capacitance, drain capacitance, spin effects, quantum effects and channel width on the instability of THz plasma waves under the non-ideal boundary conditions is investigated in great detail. The results of numerical simulation show that the THz plasma wave is unstable when the drain capacitance is smaller than the source capacitance;the oscillation frequency with asymmetric boundary conditions is smaller than that under non-ideal boundary conditions;the instability gain of THz plasma waves becomes lower under non-ideal boundary conditions. This finding provides a new idea for finding efficient THz radiation sources and opens up a new mechanism for the development of THz technology.展开更多

Their mesostructural stability under different carbon content, aging time and acidity were conveniently monitored by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and N2 sorption isotherms techniques. The results show mesostruetural stability of OMCs is enhanced as the carbon content increases from 36% to 46%, further increasing carbon content deteriorates the mesostructural stability. Increasing aging time from 0.5 h to 5.0 h make the mesostructural stability go through an optimum (2.0 h) and gradually reduce framework shrinkage of the OMCs. Highly OMCs can only be obtained in the acidity range of 0.2-1.2 mol/L HC1, when the acidity is near the isoelectrie point of silica, the resulting OMCs have the best mesostructure stability. Under the optimum condition, the carbon content of 46%, aging time of 2.0 h, and 0.2 mol/L HCl, the resulting OMCs have the best mesostrueture stability and the highest BET surface areas of 2281 m2/g.展开更多

文摘Mudstone, as a typical soft rock with wide distribution, has been endangering the slopes containing mudstone by its watersensitivity of swelling and weakening strength when encountering water. The key to preventing landslide of the slope containing water-sensitive mudstone in Shengli No.1 open-pit coal mine is to control the deformation and sliding of the mudstone layer.
文摘We study the space of stability conditions on K3 surfaces from the perspective of mirror symmetry. The main results can be understood as a mirror correspondence in a synthesis of the homological mirror conjecture and SYZ mirror conjecture.

文摘The utilization of solar energy is essential to all living things since the beginning of time.In addition to being a constant source of energy, solar energy(SE)can also be used to generate heat and electricity.Recent technology enables to convert the solar energy into electricity by using thermal solar heat.Solar energy is perhaps the most easily accessible and plentiful source of sustainable energy.Copper-based nanofluid has been considered as a method to improve solar collector performance by absorbing incoming solar energy directly. The goal of this research is to explore theoretically the Agrawal axisymmetric flow induced by Cu-water nanofluid over a moving permeable disk caused by solar energy. Moreover, the impacts of Maxwell velocity and Smoluchowski temperature slip are incorporated to discuss the fine points of nanofluid flow and characteristics of heat transfer. The primary partial differential equations are transformed to similarity equations by employing similarity variables and then utilizing bvp4c to resolve the set of equations numerically. The current numerical approach can produce double solutions by providing suitable initial guesses. In addition, the results revealed that the impact of solar collector efficiency enhances significantly due to nanoparticle volume fraction. The suction parameter delays the boundary layer separation. Moreover, stability analysis is performed and is found that the upper solution is stable and physically trustworthy while the lower one is unstable.

文摘CaCO_(3)is an important component of marine sediments and one of the major deep-carbon carriers at subduction zones. Some subducted CaCO_(3)can be dissolved in subduction fluids and recycled back to the surface via arc volcanoes degassing. At the same time, there still remain large amounts of CaCO_(3)and its reaction products, which could be further transported into Earth's deep interior. These internal processes link atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere with the deep solid Earth, modifying the environments of our planet. In this review,we summarize current understanding from high pressure-temperature experiments and field petrological observations on the physical and chemical properties of CaCO_(3).In particular, the phase stability and reactions of CaCO_(3)largely control the migration and reservation of oxidized carbon in subducting slabs. Finally,we present several critical but unsolved questions on CaCO_(3)subducting in the deep mantle.

文摘This paper proposed the explicit generalized-a time scheme and periodic boundary conditions in the material point method(MPM)for the simulation of coseismic site response. The proposed boundary condition uses an intuitive particle-relocation algorithm ensuring material points always remain within the computational mesh. The explicit generalized-a time scheme was implemented in MPM to enable the damping of spurious high frequency oscillations.Firstly, the MPM was verified against finite element method(FEM).Secondly, ability of the MPM in capturing the analytical transfer function was investigated.Thirdly,a symmetric embankment was adopted to investigate the effects of ground motion arias intensity(I_(a)),geometry dimensions, and constitutive models. The results show that the larger the model size, the higher the crest runout and settlement for the same ground motion. When using a Mohr-Coulomb model, the crest runout increases with increasing I_(a).However,if the strain-softening law is activated, the results are less influenced by the ground motion. Finally, the MPM results were compared with the Newmark sliding block solution. The simplified analysis herein highlights the capabilities of MPM to capture the full deformation process for earthquake engineering applications, the importance of geometry characterization, and the selection of appropriate constitutive models when simulating coseismic site response and subsequent large deformations.

文摘Terahertz(THz) radiation can be generated due to the instability of THz plasma waves in field-effect transistors(FETs). This finding provides a new idea for finding efficient THz radiation sources and opens up a new mechanism for the development of THz technology.
文摘We review the use of nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectroscopy to assess the exchange of amide protons for deuterons(HDX)in efforts to understand how high concentration of cosolutes, especially macromolecules, affect the equilibrium thermodynamics of protein stability.HDX NMR is the only method that can routinely provide such data at the level of individual amino acids. We begin by discussing the properties of the protein systems required to yield equilibrium thermodynamic data and then review publications using osmolytes, sugars, denaturants, synthetic polymers, proteins, cytoplasm and in cells.

文摘The network of Himalayan roadways and highways connects some remote regions of valleys or hill slopes, which is vital for India’s socio-economic growth.Due to natural and artificial factors, frequency of slope instabilities along the networks has been increasing over last few decades.Assessment of stability of natural and artificial slopes due to construction of these connecting road networks is significant in safely executing these roads throughout the year.Several rock mass classification methods are generally used to assess the strength and deformability of rock mass. This study assesses slope stability along the NH-1A of Ramban district of North Western Himalayas.Various structurally and non-structurally controlled rock mass classification systems have been applied to assess the stability conditions of 14 slopes. For evaluating the stability of these slopes, kinematic analysis was performed along with geological strength index(GSI),rock mass rating(RMR),continuous slope mass rating(CoSMR),slope mass rating(SMR),and Q-slope in the present study. The SMR gives three slopes as completely unstable while CoSMR suggests four slopes as completely unstable. The stability of all slopes was also analyzed using a design chart under dynamic and static conditions by slope stability rating(SSR)for the factor of safety(FoS)of 1.2 and 1 respectively.Q-slope with probability of failure(PoF)1%gives two slopes as stable slopes.Stable slope angle has been determined based on the Q-slope safe angle equation and SSR design chart based on the FoS.The value ranges given by different empirical classifications were RMR(37-74),GSI(27.3-58.5),SMR(11-59),and CoSMR(3.39-74.56).Good relationship was found among RMR&SSR and RMR&GSI with correlation coefficient(R 2)value of 0.815 and 0.6866,respectively.Lastly,a comparative stability of all these slopes based on the above classification has been performed to identify the most critical slope along this road.

文摘Various ordered mesoporous carbons (OMCs) have been prepared by evaporation-induced trieonstituent co-assembly method. Under the optimum condition, the carbon content of 46%, aging time of 2.0 h, and 0.2 mol/L HCl, the resulting OMCs have the best mesostrueture stability and the highest BET surface areas of 2281 m2/g.

文摘Different from oil and gas production, hydrate reservoirs are shallow and unconsolidated, whose mechanical properties deteriorate with hydrate decomposition. Therefore, the formations will undergo significant subsidence during depressurization, which will destroy the original force state of the production well. However, existing research on the stability of oil and gas production wells assumes the formation to be stable, and lacks consideration of the force exerted on the hydrate production well by formation subsidence caused by hydrate decomposition during production. To fill this gap, this paper proposes an analytical method for the dynamic evolution of the stability of hydrate production well considering the effects of hydrate decomposition.Based on the mechanical model of the production well, the basis for stability analysis has been proposed.A multi-field coupling model of the force state of the production well considering the effect of hydrate decomposition and formation subsidence is established, and a solver is developed. The analytical approach is verified by its good agreement with the results from the numerical method.A case study found that the decomposition of hydrate will increase the pulling-down force and reduce the supporting force, which is the main reason for the stability deterioration. The higher the initial hydrate saturation, the larger the reservoir thickness, and the lower the production pressure, the worse the stability or even instability. This work can provide a theoretical reference for the stability maintaining of the production well.

文摘Degradation of rock mass produced by rock blasting, stress relief, and other causes is an important factor in the assessment of rock strength.Quantified as a disturbance factor, such degradation varies depending on blasting control, stress state and stress relief, and rock mass quality. This study focuses on the impact of disturbance on the safety of slopes. The disturbance in the rock mass is characterized by the geometry of the disturbed zone, its size, the magnitude, and the decaying rate with the distance away from the slope surface.A method accounting for decay of rock disturbance is presented.A study of the impact of rock disturbance characteristics on the quantitative stability measures of slopes was carried out. These characteristics included disturbed zone geometry, its thickness, the maximum magnitude of the disturbance factor, and the rate of disturbance decaying. The thickness of the disturbed zone and the maximum factor of disturbance were found to have the greatest impact. For example, the factor of safety for a 45slope in low-quality rock mass can decrease from 1.96 to 1.09 as the thickness of the disturbed zone increases from 1/4 of slope height H to the double of H and the maximum disturbance factor increases from 0.5 to 1.Uniform thickness of a disturbed zone was found to yield more conservative outcomes than the triangular zones did.The critical failure surfaces were found to be shallow for high rates of disturbance decay, and they were the deepest for spatially uniform disturbance factors.
文摘The influence of variable viscosity and double diffusion on the convective stability of a nanofluid flow in an inclined porous channel is investigated. The DarcyBrinkman model is used to characterize the fluid flow dynamics in porous materials. The analytical solutions are obtained for the unidirectional and completely developed flow.Based on a normal mode analysis, the generalized eigenvalue problem under a perturbed state is solved. The eigenvalue problem is then solved by the spectral method. Finally, the critical Rayleigh number with the corresponding wavenumber is evaluated at the assigned values of the other flow-governing parameters. The results show that increasing the Darcy number, the Lewis number, the Dufour parameter,or the Soret parameter increases the stability of the system, whereas increasing the inclination angle of the channel destabilizes the flow.Besides, the flow is the most unstable when the channel is vertically oriented.

文摘Face stability is an essential issue in tunnel design and construction.Layered rock masses are typical and ubiquitous;uncertainties in rock properties always exist. In view of this,a comprehensive method, which combines the Upper bound Limit analysis of Tunnel face stability, the Polynomial Chaos Kriging, the Monte-Carlo Simulation and Analysis of Covariance method(ULT-PCK-MA),is proposed to investigate the seismic stability of tunnel faces.A two-dimensional analytical model of ULT is developed to evaluate the virtual support force based on the upper bound limit analysis. An efficient probabilistic analysis method PCK-MA based on the adaptive Polynomial Chaos Kriging metamodel is then implemented to investigate the parameter uncertainty effects.Ten input parameters, including geological strength indices, uniaxial compressive strengths and constants for three rock formations, and the horizontal seismic coefficients, are treated as random variables. The effects of these parameter uncertainties on the failure probability and sensitivity indices are discussed. In addition, the effects of weak layer position, the middle layer thickness and quality, the tunnel diameter, the parameters correlation, and the seismic loadings are investigated, respectively. The results show that the layer distributions significantly influence the tunnel face probabilistic stability, particularly when the weak rock is present in the bottom layer. The efficiency of the proposed ULT-PCK-MA is validated, which is expected to facilitate the engineering design and construction.

文摘The Guanpo pegmatite field in the North Qinling orogenic belt(NQB),China, hosts the most abundant LCT pegmatites. However, their emplacement conditions and structural control remain unexplored. In this contribution,we investigated it combining pegmatite orientation measurement with oxygen isotope geothermometry and fluid inclusion study. The orientations of type A1 pegmatites(P_(f)<σ_(2))are predominantly influenced by P-and T-fractures due to simple shearing in Shiziping dextral thrust shear zone during D_(2)deformation,whereas type A2 pegmatites(contemporaneous with D_(4))are governed by hydraulic fractures aligned with S_(0)and S_(0+1)stemming from fluid pressure(P_(f)<σ_(2)).Additionally,type B pegmatites(P_(f)≤σ_(2))exhibit orientations shaped by en echelon extensional fractures in local ductile shear zones(contemporaneous with D_(3)).The albite-quartz oxygen isotope geothermometry and microthermometric analysis of fluid inclusions in elbaites from the latest pegmatites(including types B and A2)suggest that the crystallization P-T for late magmatic and hydrothermal stages are 527.5-559.2℃,320℃,3.1-3.6 kbar and 2.0 kbar, respectively. Our observations along with previous studies suggest that the genesis of the LCT pegmatites was a long-term,multi-stage event during early Paleozoic orogeny(including the collision stage)of the NQB,and was facilitated by various local fractures.
