In the present study, two formulations of moxa cone moxibustion were applied at acupoints Zusanfi (ST 36) and Xuanzhong (GB 39), and at acupoints Baihui (DU 20) and Guanyuan (RN 4), in D-galactose-induced senile mice. The results revealed that moxa cone moxibustion improved total superoxide dismutase and Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase activity in the homogenates of the cerebral tissue, as well as ameliorating deficits in neuronal morphology and neuronal density in the cerebral cortex and hippocampal CA3. Moxa cone moxibustion also enhanced learning and memory functions of senile mice. Moxa cone moxibustion at Zusanli, Xuanzhong, Baihuiand Guanyuan acupoints can thus be used to complement free radical scavengers, with efficacy that is equal to that of electroacupuncture at Zusanliand Xuanzhong, and superior to that of nimodipine treatment.展开更多

The results showed that (1) The present therapy is effective for enuresis with cure rate of 66.18% and total effective rate of 92. 65 %; (2) The curative effects was related with the syndrome differentiation (P <0. 01), e. g. it is effective for deficiency of kidney-Yang and deficiency of Qi in lung and spleen types, but ineffective for the type of downward flow of damp-heat; (3) The therapeutic effect was also closely related with the course of disease. The shorter the course of illness lasted, the more effective the therapy was, indicating that such patients should be treated in the early stage. This method is not only comparable to other conventional acupuncture methods in respects of the cure rate and total effective rate, but is also simple to apply, safe to use, easy to be accepted by children and adverse-effect free. Results: The healthy volunteers exposed to moxa smoke had significant reductions in HR and also significant changes in HRV parameters. Background:Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy to cure diseases by fumigating meridians or affected parts via burning of moxa floss.Moxa smoke(MS)is one of the key factors in moxibustion.In this stud...Background:Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy to cure diseases by fumigating meridians or affected parts via burning of moxa floss.Moxa smoke(MS)is one of the key factors in moxibustion.In this study,we adopted digital gene expression profiling,a next-generation gene sequencing technology,to investigate the effect of MS,inhalable particulate matter(PM10),on human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells.Methods:The effects of MS PM10 on A549 cells,over different treatment durations were investigated in different groups:the 4-h group(4-h MS group and 4-h control group)and the 20-h group(20-h MS group and 20-h control group).Samples collected from the four groups were stored at80C for subsequent digital gene expression analysis.The differentially expressed genes(DEGs),identified after PM10 treatment,were screened,and their expression patterns analyzed by cluster analysis,Gene Ontology term enrichment,and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis.Results:Compared with two control groups,1109 DEGs were identified after 4 h of MS intervention and 3565 DEGs were found after 20 h of MS intervention,respectively.Compared with that after 4-h intervention,2149 DEGs were identified after 20-h intervention.Cluster analysis demonstrated that PM10 can significantly inhibit cell cycle process with the prolongation of intervention time.Significant pathway enrichment analysis showed that MS PM10 can inhibit A549 cell cycle process at all phases.When MS PM10 exposure time prolongs,the inhibitory effect on cell cycle process becomes more obvious.Conclusion:MS PM10 has many biological activities,and may cause differential expression of genes involved in various biological processes.Nevertheless,further research on MS is warranted for better understanding of the mechanistic details.展开更多

Objective:To observe the effect of moxa-stick moxibustion plus recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(rhG-CSF)in preventing chemotherapy infection in gastric cancer and its effect on immune function.M...Objective:To observe the effect of moxa-stick moxibustion plus recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(rhG-CSF)in preventing chemotherapy infection in gastric cancer and its effect on immune function.Methods:A total of 70 patients with gastric cancer treated by chemotherapy were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group,with 35 cases in each group.The control group was given rhG-CSF,and the observation group was given additional moxa-stick moxibustion on the basis of rhG-CSF.Both groups were treated for 2 chemotherapy cycles,totally 6 weeks.The number of patients with infection,the duration of infection and the duration of continuous use of antibiotics were observed.The leukocytes and granulocytes counts,the levels of tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a)and interferon-γ(IFN-γ)were measured before and after treatment,and the levels of CD4,CD8 and natural killer(NK)cells were analyzed.Results:The infection rate of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05),and the duration of infection and the duration of continuous use of antibiotics were also shorter(P<0.05).After treatment,the leukocytes and granulocytes counts in the two groups were higher than those before treatment(all P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of TNF-α and IFN-γ of the patients in the two groups were improved(all P<0.05),and there were significant differences between the observation group and the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,the numbers of CD4,CD8,and NK cells in the observation group increased significantly(all P<0.05);but the changes in the control group were not significant(P>0.05).Conclusion:Moxa-stick moxibustion plus rhG-CSF can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of chemotherapy infection in gastric cancer,increase the leukocytes and granulocytes counts,and regulate the levels of inflammatory factors,which may be related to the improvement of the immune function of the patients.展开更多

Mild moxibustion scale was used to count the score.Results: Warm was the main moxibustion sensation, burning pain and soreness decreased with the rise of distance; for the same acupoint, score of mild moxibustion scale increased with the decrease of distance; score ranged between 5.5 and 6.5at distance 3 cm, which was the most comfortable distance for volunteers.Conclusion: The distance of 3 cm is the most comfortable distance in mild moxibustion.展开更多

Methods: Sixty cases in conformity with the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups randomly. Thirty cases in the treatment group were treated by moxa cone moxibustion on Pishu (BL 20) and Shenshu (BL 23), while 30 cases in the control group were treated by oral administration of herbal medicine. The therapeutic effects were compared after one treatment course. Results: The total effective rate was higher in the treatment group than that in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P0.05). Conclusion: Moxa cone moxibustion is better than oral administration of herbal medicine in treatment of chronic intractable diarrhea.展开更多
