Topological probability and connection strength induced activity in complex neural networks

Recent experimental evidence suggests that some brain activities can be assigned to small-world networks. In this work, we investigate how the topological probability p and connection strength C affect the activities of discrete neural networks with small-world (SW) connections. Network elements are described by two-dimensional map neurons (2DMNs) with the values of parameters at which no activity occurs. It is found that when the value of p is smaller or larger, there are no active neurons in the network, no matter what the value of connection strength is; for a given appropriate connection strength, there is an intermediate range of topological probability where the activity of 2DMN network is induced and enhanced. On the other hand, for a given intermediate topological probability level, there exists an optimal value of connection strength such that the frequency of activity reaches its maximum. The possible mechanism behind the action of topological probability and connection strength is addressed based on the bifurcation method. Furthermore, the effects of noise and transmission delay on the activity of neural network are also studied. 展开更多

In order to reveal the complex network characteristics and evolution principle of China aviation network, the probability distribution and evolution trace of ratio of China aviation network edge vertices degree were studied based on the statistics data of China civil aviation network in 1988, 1994, 2001, 2008 and 2015. According to the theory and method of complex network, the network system was constructed with the city where the airport was located as the network node and the route between cities as the edge of the network. Based on the statistical data, the ratio of edge vertices degree in China aviation network in 1988, 1994, 2001, 2008 and 2015 were calculated. Using the probability statistical analysis method and regression analysis approach, it was found that the ratio of edge vertices degree had linear probability distribution and the two parameters of the probability distribution had linear evolution trace. 展开更多

Great situation in mathematics teaching, by means of the mathematical modeling formed in the development of the teachers, as well as the teaching thought, teaching experience and achievements, the onward march of mathematical experiment should be faster than mathematical modeling. The data in one mode may follow specific Gaussian or non-Gaussian distributions. In this paper, a numerically efficient movingwindow local outlier probability algorithm is proposed, lies key feature is the capability to handle complex data distributions and incursive operating condition changes including slow dynamic variations and instant mode shifts. First, a two-step adaption approach is introduced and some designed updating rules are applied to keep the monitoring model up-to-date. Then, a semi-supervised monitoring strategy is developed with an updating switch rule to deal with mode changes. Based on local probability models, the algorithm has a superior ability in detecting faulty conditions and fast adapting to slow variations and new operating modes. Finally, the utility of the proposed method is demonstrated with a numerical example and a non-isothermal continuous stirred tank reactor. 展开更多

Our study evaluated the hemodynamic performance of an axial flow blood pump surgically implanted in idealized total cavopulmonary connection(TCPC)models.This blood pump was designed to augment pressure from the inferior vena cava(IVC)to the pulmonary circulation.Two Fontan procedures with single and bilateral superior vena cava(SVC)were compared to fit the mechanical supported TCPC physiologies.Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)analyses of two Pump-TCPC models were performed in the analyses.Pressure-flow characteristics,energy efficiency,fluid streamlines,hemolysis and thrombosis analyses were implemented.Numerical simulations indicate that the pump produces pressure generations of 1 mm to 24 mm Hg for rotational speeds ranging from 2000 RPM to 5000 RPM and flow rates of 2 LPM to 4 LPM.Two surgical models incorporated with the pump were found to be insignificant in pressure augmentation and energy boost.The risk assessment of blood trauma and thrombosis generation was evaluated representatively through blood damage index(BDI),particle resident time(PRT)and relative resistant time(RRT).The hemolysis and thrombosis analyses declare the advantage of the pump supported bilateral SVC surgical scheme in balancing flow distribution and reducing the risk of endothelial cell destruction and trauma generation. 展开更多

With only these assumptions we obtain nice general characterization of bivariate probability distributions that may play similar role as the copula methodology. The bending strength of carbon?fiber/thermoplastic epoxy composites?(CF/TP-EP Compo.)?had?bi-linear increasewith increase of weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of matrix. The transition in the bending strength appeared at around 55k of Mw (“k”?means 103). SEM observation of fractured surface of CF/TP-EP Compo. showed that the fracture mode changed from interfacial failure to fiber breakage dominated failure. The smooth surface of carbon fibers appeared at lower Mw than 55k while some resin remained on the fibers indicating good adhesion between carbon fiber and matrix at higher Mw than 55k. The interfacial shear strength between carbon fiber and matrix bi-linearly increased with an increase of Mw similarly to the bending strength of the composite, measured by the micro droplet test. The dynamic loss tanδ?of the matrix measured at 2?Hz also showed a bi-linear relationship with respect to Mw having a knee point at Mw = 55k. The connection probability of two cracks introduced on?each side of specimens also confirmed that the interfacial strength between carbon fiber and matrix is the key for the mechanical performance of CF/TP-EP Compo. in bending. 展开更多

The capability of a system to fulfill its mission promptly in the presence of attacks,failures,or accidents is one of the qualitative definitions of survivability.In this paper,we propose a model for survivability quantification,which is acceptable for networks carrying complex traffic flows.Complex network traffic is considered as general multi-rate,heterogeneous traffic,where the individual bandwidth demands may aggregate in complex,nonlinear ways.Blocking probability is the chosen measure for survivability analysis.We study an arbitrary topology and some other known topologies for the network.Independent and dependent failure scenarios as well as deterministic and random traffic models are investigated.Finally,we provide survivability evaluation results for different network configurations.The results show that by using about 50%of the link capacity in networks with a relatively high number of links,the blocking probability remains near zero in the case of a limited number of failures. 展开更多

Considering that the probability distribution of random variables in stochastic programming usually has incomplete information due to a perfect sample data in many real applications, this paper discusses a class of two-stage stochastic programming problems modeling with maximum minimum expectation compensation criterion (MaxEMin) under the probability distribution having linear partial information (LPI). In view of the nondifferentiability of this kind of stochastic programming modeling, an improved complex algorithm is designed and analyzed. This algorithm can effectively solve the nondifferentiable stochastic programming problem under LPI through the variable polyhedron iteration. The calculation and discussion of numerical examples show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

区域公路网是社会交通大动脉和地震灾害救援生命线,连通可靠性反映了地震灾害发生后公路网的通行能力,地震动受震源位置及震中距的影响而具有显著的空间变化,对公路网的震后破坏状态具有重要影响。以邯郸地区公路网为研究对象,通过设定... 区域公路网是社会交通大动脉和地震灾害救援生命线,连通可靠性反映了地震灾害发生后公路网的通行能力,地震动受震源位置及震中距的影响而具有显著的空间变化,对公路网的震后破坏状态具有重要影响。以邯郸地区公路网为研究对象,通过设定震源位置与震级,研究地震动空间变化影响下的区域公路网连通可靠性。首先,设定邯郸市1830年磁县大地震及一个虚拟地震为地震情景,分别设置震级为M6.0、6.5、7.0和7.5,基于地震动衰减关系表达地震动空间变化,得到公路单元对应的PGA。然后,结合地震易损性模型分析公路单元震后通行概率。最后,针对区域公路网空间范围大的典型特征,优化城市道路所用的最大可能状态算法,对邯郸地区公路网进行连通可靠性评估。结果表明,区域尺度下公路网络单元和节点数量多、空间展布复杂,其抗震连通可靠性与既有公路分布、区域城市位置等因素密切相关,地震动空间变化显著影响公路单元的震后破坏状态和通行概率,研究成果可为区域尺度公路网地震灾害评估及抗震韧性研究提供参考。 展开更多

泥石流作为一种常见的地质灾害,其形成机制复杂,影响指标众多且呈现多重不确定性,为综合考虑多种影响因素协同作用,基于信息融合和不确定性分析理论,提出一种基于证据理论和云模型的泥石流易发评价方法。首先,应用联系云模型(CCM)计算... 泥石流作为一种常见的地质灾害,其形成机制复杂,影响指标众多且呈现多重不确定性,为综合考虑多种影响因素协同作用,基于信息融合和不确定性分析理论,提出一种基于证据理论和云模型的泥石流易发评价方法。首先,应用联系云模型(CCM)计算泥石流易发性关键评价指标的基本概率分配函数(BPA);然后,引入兰氏距离和邓氏熵,分别修正指标BPA的可信度和不确定度,得到修正后的BPA;最后,基于D-S证据理论对修正BPA进行证据融合,实现泥石流易发性评价,并进行实例验证。结果表明:所采用的CCM能够克服正态云模型计算BPA时要求指标为正态分布的缺陷,并考虑的指标分布的随机性和不确定性;提出的方法与其他4种常用的证据融合方法评价结果基本吻合,用于泥石流易发性评价有效可行;基于兰氏距离和邓氏熵改进的冲突证据融合算法可提高证据融合的收敛速度和精度,并且结果更准确可靠。 展开更多

Vehicles travelling as platoons can reduce the huge traffic jams on the highway. Platoon members can share vehicle information such as speed and acceleration via vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) communication to maintain a constant inter-vehicle and inter-platoon distances. However, connectivity is a fundamental measurement to indicate the linking quality of VANETs. This paper analyzes the access and connectivity probability between the vehicles and the road side units (RSUs) of the multi-way platoon-based VANETs with roadside infrastructure. We denote the connectivity probability as the probability that the vehicles on the highway can access to at least one RSU besides the road within a designated number of hops. Moreover, besides considering the connection on the same road, we study the connection between the vehicles and the RSU via vehicles on the nearby neighbor roads. The analytical results have been validated by simulations and results show that the connectivity probability can be improved when there are platoons in a network. Meanwhile, the connectivity probability is higher in the multi-way vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication network than that in a one-way V2I communication network. The results in this paper can help to reduce the jams on the highway and achieve intelligent driving. Then the safety and comfort of the drivers and passengers on the highway can be improved.
