This analysis was to assess the suitability of these rocks for building construction aggregate. The analyses included properties of uniaxial compressive strength, tensile strength, porosity, water absorption, and dynamic fragmentation. The success of building construction depends to a large extent on the availability of raw materials at affordable prices. Raw materials commonly used in the building industry include sands, gravels, clays and clay-derived products. Despite the widespread occurrence of carbonate rocks throughout Egypt, the low premium placed on their direct application in the building sector may be explained in two ways: firstly, the lack of awareness of the potential uses of carbonate rocks in the building construction industry(beyond the production of asbestos, ceiling boards, roof sheets and Portland cement); and secondly, the aesthetic application of carbonate rocks in the building construction depends mainly on their physical attributes, a knowledge of which is generally restricted to within the confines of research laboratories and industries. To meet the requirements of specifications,intelligent optimization of steel bar blanking can improve resource utilization and promote the intelligent development of sustainable construction.As one of the most importa...To meet the requirements of specifications,intelligent optimization of steel bar blanking can improve resource utilization and promote the intelligent development of sustainable construction.As one of the most important building materials in construction engineering,reinforcing bars(rebar)account for more than 30%of the cost in civil engineering.A significant amount of cutting waste is generated during the construction phase.Excessive cutting waste increases construction costs and generates a considerable amount of CO_(2)emission.This study aimed to develop an optimization algorithm for steel bar blanking that can be used in the intelligent optimization of steel bar engineering to realize sustainable construction.In the proposed algorithm,the integer linear programming algorithm was applied to solve the problem.It was combined with the statistical method,a greedy strategy was introduced,and a method for determining the dynamic critical threshold was developed to ensure the accuracy of large-scale data calculation.The proposed algorithm was verified through a case study;the results confirmed that the rebar loss rate of the proposed method was reduced by 9.124%compared with that of traditional distributed processing of steel bars,reducing CO_(2)emissions and saving construction costs.As the scale of a project increases,the calculation quality of the optimization algorithmfor steel bar blanking proposed also increases,while maintaining high calculation efficiency.When the results of this study are applied in practice,they can be used as a sustainable foundation for building informatization and intelligent development.展开更多

This study investigated the preference for wood and plastic-based ceiling panels by homeowners in Ghana, the implications for the conservation of tropical forests and prospects for the local wood processing industry. ...This study investigated the preference for wood and plastic-based ceiling panels by homeowners in Ghana, the implications for the conservation of tropical forests and prospects for the local wood processing industry. Questionnaire was used to solicit information from 758 homeowners sampled from three cities in Ghana. The results showed that even though wood-based panels continue to enjoy strong patronage among home owners plastic-based panels appear to be the future material for ceiling. The findings suggest that, by 2030, homeowners in Ghana will use more plastic-based ceiling panels than wood-based panels, ceteris paribus. Attractiveness, durability and pleasantness are the key attributes of plastics that influence homeowners' decision to patronize the material. Additionally, the concern about the depletion of forest resources in Ghana has shaped homeowners decision to patronize plastic-based ceiling panels. While the shift to the use of plastic-based panels has the potential to moderate the consumption levels of timber and therefore could contribute to the conservation of tropical forests, it has a negative implication on the development of local wood processing industry. One area where manufacturers of wood products such as wood panels can explore in order to increase or maintain the market share of wood-based panel products is sourcing raw timber from certified forests.展开更多

The second part is a comprehensive review of various types of ecological control activity aimed at the improvement of natural and artificially established ecosystems at the landscape,regional(watershed) and higher levels. The scope of and differences between some ecological terms used in China such as ecological protection, conservation, remediation(rehabilitation), restoration as well as the reestablishment of new ecosystems are elaborated. The review suggests that the term "ecological conservation and construction"should be used to embrace all types of ecological control activity in China. Finally, five guidelines are proposed for promoting the implementation of ecological conservation and construction in China based on the two important governmental documents related to the development of ecological civilization in China.展开更多

文摘Majority of the buildings,including industrial buildings,are constructed using either structural steel (plates and structural shapes) or deformed bar steel reinforced concrete.Such buildings,however,must be designed to be safe and serviceable during construction and during use and occupancy.These objectives can be easily achieved by the use of steels having superior mechanical properties,ductility,weldability,fire resistance,etc.Over the years,the steel industry has made improvements in steel making technologies resulting in high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels with superior steel properties well suited for building construction.First part of this paper presents the structural design considerations,and the constructional considerations associated with the building structures in general,and steel structures in particular.This second part of the paper looks at the acceptance criteria for HSLA steels for North American building codes and construction.The third part of the paper presents the structural properties of currently available HSLA steels for building construction.The discussion focuses on hot-rolled structural steel shapes as well as deformed steel bars for concrete reinforcement.The paper argues that Niobium microalloying is the key to achieving superior properties in such steels.
文摘This study investigated the preference for wood and plastic-based ceiling panels by homeowners in Ghana, the implications for the conservation of tropical forests and prospects for the local wood processing industry. Questionnaire was used to solicit information from 758 homeowners sampled from three cities in Ghana. The results showed that even though wood-based panels continue to enjoy strong patronage among home owners plastic-based panels appear to be the future material for ceiling. The findings suggest that, by 2030, homeowners in Ghana will use more plastic-based ceiling panels than wood-based panels, ceteris paribus. Attractiveness, durability and pleasantness are the key attributes of plastics that influence homeowners' decision to patronize the material. Additionally, the concern about the depletion of forest resources in Ghana has shaped homeowners decision to patronize plastic-based ceiling panels. While the shift to the use of plastic-based panels has the potential to moderate the consumption levels of timber and therefore could contribute to the conservation of tropical forests, it has a negative implication on the development of local wood processing industry. One area where manufacturers of wood products such as wood panels can explore in order to increase or maintain the market share of wood-based panel products is sourcing raw timber from certified forests.
文摘This paper explains and discusses the concepts of ecological conservation and construction in China in three parts. The first part provides a brief description of the historical background of ecological activities in China and their major achievements in the past. The second part is a comprehensive review of various types of ecological control activity aimed at the improvement of natural and artificially established ecosystems at the landscape,regional(watershed) and higher levels. The scope of and differences between some ecological terms used in China such as ecological protection, conservation, remediation(rehabilitation), restoration as well as the reestablishment of new ecosystems are elaborated. The review suggests that the term "ecological conservation and construction"should be used to embrace all types of ecological control activity in China. Finally, five guidelines are proposed for promoting the implementation of ecological conservation and construction in China based on the two important governmental documents related to the development of ecological civilization in China.
