Personification in Chinese Diplomatic Discourse and the Construction of National Identity Based on Corpus:A Case Study of the Regular Press Conference of Ministry of Foreign Affairs

With the development of the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics,diplomatic discourse,as an important part of building China’s international discourse power,has attracted much attention.Personification is a common means in diplomatic discourse.By giving anthropomorphic expressions to countries,regions,institutions and policies,the purpose of building national identity and establishing national image can be achieved.Based on conceptual metaphor theory and national identity theory,this paper focuses on personification in diplomatic discourse with a case study of the regular press conference of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.It is found that the spokesperson skillfully constructed China’s positive national identity,such as peace-loving,openness and inclusiveness by using a large number of body metaphor,kinship metaphor and role metaphor.

Discourse Construction of the Belt and Road Initiative in British and American Media:The Perspective of Proximization Theory

This study takes the reports on China’s“One Belt,One Road”in the British and American media as the object of study,mainly by collecting more than 10,000 words from the relevant reports published in the British media The Times,The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian from 2019-2022,to create a British corpus.A number of US media outlets,such as the New York Times,Los Angeles Times and Washington Post,were also collected to extract over 10,000 words of relevant corpus to create a US corpus.The BFSU Qualitative Coder 1.1,AntConc 3.5.7 and the LLX2 chi-square test were used to analyse the perceptions of the British and American corpora on China’s“One Belt,One Road”initiative,and to explore the temporal,spatial and value convergence of speakers and addressees in the corpus in the context of convergence theory.In this paper,we explore the specific distribution and pragmatic functions of the convergence of speakers and addressees in the corpus,in order to explore and reveal the different features of the application of convergence strategies in the British and American corpora in relation to China’s“One Belt,One Road”initiative.

Analysis on Discourse Construction of HK Riots between HK Protesters and China's Mainland Media Based on Fairclough’s Three-dimensional Framework of Critical Discourse Analysis

The Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA)is an interdisciplinary tool in various conditions,which aims to provide a better understanding of sociocultural aspects of texts and accounts of the production of internal structure,and overall organization of texts as well as to provide a critical dimension in its theoretical and descriptive accounts of texts.Since June last year,HK protests or HK violence have been frequently reported by worldwide media.In this paper,the author aims to find out how the HK protesters and the Mainland media describe the same event based on the three-dimensional framework of CDA.At last,the author concludes that the mainland media generally describe the event as violence and riot while the HK protesters define themselves as warriors striving for more freedom,justice and democracy.Besides,on this event,the Mainland media mainly accuses some western countries of interference into HK affairs,which is undoubtedly of China’s internal affairs,and the media give full support to the HK police in safeguarding the peace and stability of Hong Kong.But from the perspective of HK protesters,they firmly believe that they are using their actions to protect all the people of HK,and they are defending their values such as freedom,democracy and justice.These are two totally different systems of language,and the author also gives its potential reasons in the paper so as to offer some viewpoints in this aspect in combination with the CDA theory.

Critical Discourse Analysis of "Leftover Ladies"

In recent years, many new words have emerged in our life, such as "leftover men and ladies." The investigation and reports of the media and the TV series have attracted a great deal of attention. Taking a critical discourse analysis perspective(CDA), this article analyzes textual data from some news reports and interviews related to this heated topic. Norman Fairclough's Discourse and Social Change would provide some theoretical framework for this study. The findings reveal how this concept is constructed and how it influences our society.

Xi Jinping's Discussion of Civilization History and the Discourse Construction of China's Road

The significance of discourse construction in the civilization discussion of Xi Jinping is explored in this paper: The 500-year history of world socialism and the 5000-year history of Chinese civilization, Xi Jinping' s studies of Socialism with Chinese characteristics in the long history of civilization development, highlighting Socialism with Chinese characteristics as a product in the development of human civilization, the great contribution to world civilization progress and the creative development of Marxism which has been the most distinctive feature in Chinese discourse structure since the 18 th National Congress of the CPC. As the conscious construction of epistemology, it has given unprecedented historical and cultural implications to China' s road and opened the new theory space for the discourse construction of Socialism with Chinese characteristics or the academic expression of China' s road.

Theoretical Reflection on Meaning Production of Media Discourse in Intercultural Communications

Media discourse in the context of intercultural communications is an important channel that countries and cultures use to communicate. It is also a process of meaning interpretation and knowledge production, which exerts a great impact on the establishment of the world's cultural order. This paper discusses media discourse in intercultural communications theoretically from the perspective of knowledge production, media dialogue and meaning construction. It is suggested that an effective ideographic mechanism be developed and improved, and the essential meaning of Chinese culture be initiatively exported and integrated into a knowledge system of cognition and understanding about the world to promote the understanding and exchange between China and other countries and to help create an equal and reasonable world cultural order.

Meaning Construction of 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition Emblem from the Perspective of Multimodal Discourse Analysis

The multimodal discourse has been playing a significant role in modern society since its springing-up from the 1990s.Based on the theoretical framework of Visual Grammar(VG)put forward by Kress&van Leeuwen(1996),this study,from the per⁃spective of multimodal discourse analysis,aims at exploring the meaning construction in the emblem of 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition.It is found that an emblem can be interpreted with other modes such as visual image,color and pattern de⁃sign apart from verbal language,which will not only work to participate in the overall meaning construction with mutual interaction,but also analyze how sociocultural background,local customs and humanity spirit are reflected through these forms.

A Multimodal Discourse Analysis of Meaning Construction of Real Estate Posters

Posters have been one of the main research subjects in the Systemic-Functional Linguistics. Nowadays, posters are full of various types of semiotic modes with their wide applications of multimodality. This phenomenon is reflected in real estate posters as well, therefore, this thesis hopes to explore their essence of using multimodality and discussing meaning construction of the real estate posters.

Identity Construction Discourse in the Perspective ofInter-Subjectivity-The Case of Address Forms

In daily social communication,people mainly construct their own and others'identities through discourse,and the most representative and widely used of identity-constructing discourse is address forms.In this paper,we focus on the identity-constructing function of address formsand the cognitive collaboration of their subordinate categories at the conceptual level,where different forms of address formshave obvious selection preferences in expressing specific discourse functions.Addressing has a discourse function other than the referential function,and inter-subjectivityis its underlying motivation.

The Three-dimensional Model of “ConstructionTranslation-Communication” for the Construction of a Human Rights Discourse System with Chinese Characteristics in the Post-pandemic Era

Human rights have always been the focus of disputes between China and the West. To make a better China story about human rights and enhance China’s international discourse power in the field of human rights, we propose the text construction, translation and communication path of the construction of the human rights discourse system with Chinese characteristics from the cross-disciplinary perspective. Based on the examples of prevention and control of the CoVID-19 pandemic under the concept of putting people first, mainstream diplomatic linguistic data relevant to the fight against the novel coronavirus was collected through the internet. The human rights discourse with Chinese characteristics is constructed through a variety of texts focusing on putting the people first, the right to life, the right to health, the right to information, the right to privacy, the right to work and a sense of a community with a shared future for human beings. The core concepts of human rights have experienced the deepening process of decontextualization, abstraction and theorization to gradually conform to the expression habits of international audiences. The international communication effect is mainly positive in civil society. It shows that the construction of China’s human rights discourse system and the governance of international human rights discourse have achieved preliminary results. To enhance China’s discourse power on human rights, we need to add an interdisciplinary approach.

In present study, a critical point of view is adopted to analyze the social and cultural aspects of the classroom discourse. With the help of CDA (critical discourse analy sis), the relationship between language, power and ideology is deeply explored.

Spatiotemporal Evolution and Influencing Factors of Urban-rural Construction Land in Rural Industrialized Areas in China:Case Studies in Changyuan City and Xinxiang County of Henan Province

Since China’s reform and opening up in 1978,the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization in China had led to dramatic changes in the pattern of urban-rural land use.In this paper,we focused on the rural industrialized areas in central China(Xinxiang County and Changyuan City of Henan Province).We used the average nearest neighbor index,spatial statistical analysis,and a structural equation model to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution and influencing factors of urban-rural construction land based on multisource spatial data and survey data.The results showed that:1)from 1975 to 2019,the spatial distribution of urban-rural construction land in rural industrialized areas had evolved from homogeneous distribution to local agglomeration.In terms of comparative analysis of cases,the spatial distribution of urban-rural construction land in Changyuan City had shown a trend from diffusion to agglomeration,and Xinxiang County had overall shown a spatial change from homogenization to agglomeration and then to regional integration development.2)The hot spots with increased urban-rural construction land significantly expanded,and they had a high degree of spatial overlap with industrial development.Among them,Xinxiang County was concentrated in central and marginal areas,and Changyuan was mainly concentrated in central urban areas.3)From the evolution of spatial proximity of urban-rural construction land,rural industrialized areas generally decline,showing the characteristics of internal differentiation in the rate of change.4)Industrial development,social economy,the policy environment,and urban development played a positive role in promoting the expansion of urban-rural construction land in rural industrialized areas.To promote the optimal use of regional land and the integrated development of urban-rural areas,we should combine the advantages of regional endowment,formulate development strategies according to local conditions,and adjust the way that land is used in a timely manner.

Construction land expansion and influencing factors of typical river valley cities in Northeast China: Taking Jilin City as an example

Jilin City is a typical river valley city in Northeast China.In this paper,the authors studied the spatial and temporal expansion characteristics of the built-up areas in Jilin City from 1990 to 2020 using the analysis of expansion speed and strength,fractal dimension,barycenter coordinate transfer index and sector analysis.The ultimate-goal is to analyze the driving and restrictive factors that affect the spatial expansion of river valley cities.The results indicate that(1)the expansion speed of urban land in Jilin City has been re-latively slow in the past 30 years,while only slightly faster in 2010–2020;(2)in the spatial dimension,Jilin City mainly expanded to the south,then to the west,and extensive expansion has resulted in complex mor-phology with little stability and compactness;(3)the expansion is affected by multiple factors,of which the positive factor is industrial development,while the restrictive factors include natural factors,population loss,etc.This study provides a case for the formulation of land use policies and land space planning in river valley cities.

Analysis of the Factors Influencing the Participation of University Students in Rural Education for Poverty Alleviation

The principle of“poverty alleviation first helps the poor”is fundamental to poverty alleviation through education in rural areas.It serves as an important foundation for improving the soft power of rural culture and promoting the development of rural cultural construction.However,college students,being one of the main participants in educational poverty alleviation,have not been equipped with a well-established institutionalized participation mechanism and a sufficient awareness of participation.To enhance college students’awareness and participation in rural education and poverty alleviation and to improve the institutionalization,this research focuses on college students as a group,delves into the current situation and willingness of college students to participate in rural education and poverty alleviation,and analyzes the influencing factors affecting college students’participation in rural education and poverty alleviation by means of a questionnaire and a computerized statistical algorithm.Lastly,based on mathematical and statistical analysis,the research puts forward corresponding optimization countermeasures and suggestions from the perspectives of the government,colleges and universities,and villages,so as to provide decision-making guidelines for solving the problems of rural education development and talent constraints.

数字乡村建设、资源要素错配与农业绿色全要素生产率

数字乡村建设与农业绿色发展深度融合是推动农业高质量发展的新动力引擎。本文选取2011-2021年中国31个省级面板数据,构建数字乡村建设和农业绿色全要素生产率的评价体系,多维度分析数字乡村建设对农业绿色全要素生产率的影响及作用机制。研究发现,数字乡村建设既可以直接促进农业绿色全要素生产率提升,也可以通过带动绿色技术进步而促进农业绿色全要素生产率提升,还可以通过降低土地资源错配、资本资源错配、劳动力资源错配程度而间接促进农业绿色全要素生产率。数字乡村建设对农业绿色全要素生产率的影响异质性明显,东部地区、南方、粮食主产区的数字乡村建设的正向推动作用较强。

历史·理论·实践:近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建逻辑新探--以中央国术馆为中心

从历史、理论、实践三重维度对近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建的逻辑探赜,有助于深刻理解近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建的内在逻辑和深层脉络。运用多重史料互证和历史与逻辑相统一的方法,基于话语构建视角,以中央国术馆为中心,围绕“强种救国”核心话语,探赜近代中国武术话语构建的三重逻辑。从历史逻辑看,在“国之病夫”的隐喻与“身之病夫”符号的共同作用下,所激发的尚武图强思潮,是近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建的逻辑起点。从理论逻辑看,在救亡图存语境下,从国家、民族、社会三个层面,寄望通过对国民身体的征用、对民族体育的坚守和对武者身体的规训达至民族复振和国家强盛之目的,是近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建的逻辑机理。从实践逻辑看,在国术救国历史主题叙事中,中央国术馆通过多种举措激活国民武术价值观念的认同机制、坚守传统筑牢国民武术文化自信的思想根基、国际推广构建民族文化符号和重塑国家形象,是近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建的逻辑进路。以古鉴今,通过对近代中国武术“强种救国”话语构建的研究,提出中国武术应以国家意志为根本导向,以身国同构为逻辑理据,遵循民健国强发展进路的当代启示。
