Considering the stochastic packet dropout occuring in two channels between the sensor and the controller, and between the controller and the actuator, networked control systems are modeled as the Markovian jump linear system with four operation modes. Based on this model, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the mean square stability of the deterministic networked control systems and uncertain networked control systems are given by using the theory of the Markovian jump linear system, and corresponding controller design procedures are proposed via the cone complementarity linearization method. Finally, the numerical example and simulations are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.展开更多

The proportional plus up to the third-order derivative (PD3) compensation strategy is adopted to compensate for control packet dropouts at the actuator by using the past control packets stored in the buffer. Based onthe strategy, a new NCS structure model with packet dropouts is provided, where the packet dropout is assumed to obey the Bernoulli random binary distribution. In terms of the given model, the stochastic optimal control law is proposed. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the results.展开更多

Considering the packet dropout and transmission delay, a piecewise constant controller is adopted. With a guaranteed cost function, optimal controllers whose number is equal to the number of actuators are designed, and the design process is formulated as a convex optimal problem that can be solved by existing software. The control strategy is proposed as follows: when actuator failures appear, the fault detection and isolation unit sends out the information to the controller choosing strategy, and then the optimal stabilizing controller with the smallest guaranteed cost value is chosen. Two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. By comparing with the existing methods, it can be seen that our method has a better performance.展开更多

A general packet dropout model with multiple independent stochastic variables in the multiple channels case is adopted to describe the data missing in the limited communication channels. With the consideration of the sensor-to-controller and controller-to-actuator packet dropouts at the same time, a new method is pro- posed based on a separation lemma to design an observer-based H-infinity controller, which exponentially stabilizes the closed-loop system in the sense of mean square and also achieves a prescribed H-infinity disturbance attenuation level. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.展开更多

To comply with the discrete nature of networked systems, in contrast to most of the existing work for MASs under network imperfections, the agents are modeled by discrete-time dynamics. The communication network is considered to be undirected, its delay is considered to be time-varying but bounded, and its packet dropout is modeled by a Bernoulli distributed white sequence.Sufficient conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs)for asymptotic mean-square consensus stability are derived under network imperfections without considering external disturbances.A desired disturbance attenuation level in the presence of both external disturbances and network imperfections is also provided.A simulation example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach in coping with network imperfection and disturbances.展开更多

Two dominant architectural approaches for developing IoT systems are mashup-based and model-based approaches. Mashup approaches use existing services and are mainly suitable for less critical, personalized applications. Web development tools are widely used in mashup approaches. Model-based techniques describe a system on a higher level of abstraction, resulting in very expressive modelling of systems. The article uses Cisco packet tracer 7.2 version, which consists of four subcategories of smart things—home, smart city, industrial and power grid, to design an IoT based control system for a fertilizer manufacturing plant. The packet tracer also consists of boards—microcontrollers (MCU-PT), and single boarded computers (SBC-PT), as well as actuators and sensors. The model facilitates flexible communication opportunities among things—machines, databases, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Implementation of the IoT system brings finer process control as the operating conditions are monitored online and are broadcasted to all stakeholders in real-time for quicker action on deviations. The model developed focuses on three process plants;steam raising, nitric acid, and ammonium nitrate plants. Key process parameters are saturated steam temperature, fuel flowrates, CO and SOx emissions, converter head temperature, NOx emissions, neutralisation temperature, solution temperature, and evaporator steam pressure. The parameters need to be monitored in order to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency. Through the Cisco packet tracer platform, a use case, physical layout, network layout, IoT layout, configuration, and simulation interface were developed.展开更多
