The dynamic recrystallization and static recrystallization in a low carbon steel were investigated through single-pass and double-pass experiments. The results indicate that as the deformation temperature increases and the strain rate decreases, the shape of the stress-strain curve is changed from dynamic recovery shape to dynamic recrystallization shape. The austenite could not recrystallize within a few seconds after deformation at temperature below 900 ℃. According to the change in microstructure during deformation, the controlled rolling of low carbon steel can be divided into four stages: dynamic recrystallization, dynamic recovery, strain-induced ferrite transformation, and rolling in two-phase region. According to the microstructure after deformation, the controlled rolling of low carbon steel can be divided into five regions: non-recrystallized austenite, partly-recrystallized austenite, fully-recrystallized austenite, austenite to ferrite transformation, and dual phase. 展开更多

The purpose of this research is to quantify the effects of compositional and processing parameters on the microstruc-ture and properties of dual phase steel produced directly by hot rolling and rapid cooling. Steels with the base composition of 0.1%C, 1.4%Si, and 1.0%Mn with additions of 0.5%Cr to influence hardenability, 0.04%Nb to retard recrystallization in the latter stages of rolling, or 0.02%Ti to inhibit grain growth during and after reheating were investigated. Investigation was made to predict microstructure evolution and to correlate microstructure with processing parameters. The effects of the important microstructure parameters such as ferrite grain size, martensite volume fraction (VM) and morphology (polygonal or fibrous) on the tensile and impact properties are discussed. Multiple linear regression analysis of the ultimate tensile strength has shown that, increasing VM and martensite microhardness and grain refinement of ferrite are the major contributions to increase the strength of the steel. It was found that the dual-phase steel produced by controlled rolling process, with a microstructure which consisted of fine grained ferrite (4 um) and 35%~40% fibrous martensite, presented optimum tensile and impact properties because of enhanced resistance to crack propagation. 展开更多

Effect of controlled rolling and cooling process on the mechanical properties of low carbon cold forging steel was investigated for different processing parameters of a laboratory hot rolling mill. The results show that the specimens with fast cooling after hot rolling exhibit very good mechanical properties, and the improvement of the mechanical properties can be attributed mainly to the ferrite-grain refinement. The mechanical properties increase with decreasing final cooling temperature within the range from 670 ℃ to 570 ℃ due to the finer interlamellar spacing of pearlite colony. The specimen with fast cooling after low temperature rolling shows the highest values of the mechanical properties. The effect of the ferrite grain size on the mechanical properties was greater than that of pearlite morphology in the present study. The mechanical properties of specimens by controlled rolling and cooling process without thermal treatment were greatly superior to that of the same specimens by the conventional rolling, and their tensile strength reached 490 MPa grade even in the case of low temperature rolling without controlled rolling. It might be expected to realize the substitution medium-carbon by low-carbon for 490 MPa grade cold forging steel with controlled rolling and cooling process. 展开更多

Shape is an important quality index of cold rolling strip. Up to now, many problems in the shape control domain have not been solved satisfactorily, and a review on the research progress in the shape control domain can help to seek new breakthrough directions. In the past 10 years, researches and applications of shape control models, shape control means, shape detection technology, and shape con- trol system have achieved significant progress. In the aspect of shape control models, the researches in the past improve the accuracy, speed and robustness of the models. The intelligentization of shape control models should be strengthened in the future. In the aspect of the shape control means, the researches in the past focus on the roll opti- mization, mill type selection, process optimization, local strip shape control, edge drop control, and so on. In the future, more attention should be paid to the coordination control of both strip shape and other quality indexes, and the refinement of control objective should be strengthened. In the aspects of shape detection technology and shape control system, some new types of shape detection meters and shape control systems are developed and have successfully indus- trial applications. In the future, the standardization of shape detection technology and shape control system should be promoted to solve the problem of compatibility. In general, the four expected development trends of shape control for cold roiling strip in the future are intelligentization, coordi- nation, refinement, and standardization. The proposed research provides new breakthrough directions for improv- ing shape quality. 展开更多

The C-Mn and C-Mn-Nb steels were thermo-mechanically processed to develop dual phase steel and to study the effect of controlled rolling on the martensitic hardenability of austenite. The steel specimens were intercritically annealed at 790℃, rolled at that temperature to the reductions of 10%, 23%, and 47% and immediately cooled at different rates. Quantitative metallography was used to construct the microstructure map, which illustrated that increasing deformation progressively reduced the proportion of new ferrite formed at all cooling rates and increased the amount of martensite at fast and intermediate rates. The martensitic hardenability of austenite remaining after all the rolling reductions was plotted as a function of cooling rates. It was observed that for the austenite-martensite conversion efficiencies greater than about 25%, controlled rolling increased the martensitic hardenability of austenite. 展开更多

Based on the construction interfaces in rolled control concrete dam(RCCD), the methods were proposed to calculate the influence thickness of construction interfaces and the corresponding physical mechanics parameters. The principle on establishing the coupling model of seepage_field and stress_field for RCCD was presented. A 3_D Finite Element Method(FEM) program was developed. Study shows that such parameters as the thickness of construction interfaces, the elastic ratio and the (Poisson's) ratio obtained by tests and theoretical analysis are more reasonable, the coupling model of seepage_field and stress_field for RCCD may indicate the coupling effect between the two fields scientifically, and the developed 3_D FEM program can reflect the effect of the construction interfaces more adequately. According to the study, many scientific opinions are given both to analyze the influence of the construction interfaces to the (dam's) characteristic, and to reveal the interaction between the stress_field and the seepage_field. 展开更多

Integrated with theses technologies, relevant profile and flatness control models are developed for hot strip mills on the basis of large amount of finite element calculation. These models include shape setup control model in process control system, bending force feedforward control model, crown feedback control model and flatness feedback control model in basis automation system. Such a profile and flatness control system with full functions is applied in 1 700 mm industrial hot strip mills of Ansteel. The effect zones of layer face for RCC (rolled control concrete) dam have gradual change characteristics. Based on the analysis thought of complex material, a model was built to analyze above principle of RCC dam by use of series-wound and shunt-wound connection. Some methods were proposed to determine the instantaneous Young's modulus, delayed Young's modulus and viscosity coefficient of effect zones of layer face. Above models and methods were used to mine the principle of gradual change of key calculation parameters which can response the characteristics of effect zones. The principle of gradual change was described. A model was established to analyze the threedimensional viscoelastic problem of RCC dam. Above programs were developed. The examples show that the proposed models and methods to determine the key calculation parameters of effect zones can reflect the status of RCC dam accurately. 展开更多

Lattice modular robots possess diversity actuation methods, such as electric telescopic rod, gear rack, magnet, robot arm, etc. The researches on lattice modular robots mainly focus on their hardware descriptions and reconfiguration algorithms. Meanwhile, their design architectures and actuation methods perform slow telescopic and moving speeds, relative low actuation force verse weight ratio, and without internal space to carry objects. To improve the mechanical performance and reveal the locomotion and reconfiguration binary essences of the lattice modular robots, a novel cube-shaped, frame-like, pneumatic-based reconfigurable robot module called pneumatic expandable cube(PE-Cube) is proposed. The three-dimensional(3D) expanding construction and omni-directional rolling analysis of the constructed robots are the main focuses. The PE-Cube with three degrees of freedom(Do Fs) is assembled by replacing the twelve edges of a cube with pneumatic cylinders. The proposed symmetric construction condition makes the constructed robots possess the same properties in each supporting state, and a binary control strategy cooperated with binary actuator(pneumatic cylinder) is directly adopted to control the PE-Cube. Taking an eight PE-Cube modules' construction as example, its dynamic rolling simulation, static rolling condition, and turning gait are illustrated and discussed. To testify telescopic synchronization, respond speed, locomotion feasibility, and repeatability and reliability of hardware system, an experimental pneumatic-based robotic system is built and the rolling and turning experiments of the eight PE-Cube modules' construction are carried out. As an extension, the locomotion feasibility of a thirty-two PE-Cube modules' construction is analyzed and proved, including dynamic rolling simulation, static rolling condition, and dynamic analysis in free tipping process. The proposed PE-Cube module, construction method, and locomotion analysis enrich the family of the lattice modular robot and provide the instruction to design the lattice modular robot. 展开更多

Thermal-force driving of roll profile electromagnetic control technology(RPECT),which can be used to adjust the roll profile, can be affected by the sequential temperature rise between the electromagnetic stick(ES)and electromagnetic control roll.Due to the limited space of ES and induction coil, the cross-sectional area of induction coil can be inevitably affected by changing the size of the ES induction zone, which can further change the energy input under the same electromagnetic parameters, the temperature rising effect and the bulging ability. To investigate this phenomenon, the effects of the radius of the induction zone on the thermal-force contribution ratio, the heating ability of ES and the temperature distribution were analyzed through an electromagnetic-thermal-structural finite element model. To ensure that the results are applicable to RPECT,the thermal energy conversion ability and thermal-force roll crown control ability under different lengths of the induction zone were analyzed. It was found that whether the current density regulation mode or the current frequency regulation mode is adopted, the cases with 20 or 25 mm radius of the induction zone have the great thermal energy conversion ability and the good thermal-force roll crown control ability. The reasonable adjustment of the length of the induction zone can reduce the radius required for the maximum energy efficiency regulation.Combined with the results of the simulation analysis, the optimization of ES based on the control ability maximization requirement is achieved, which provides the base for the design and configuration of ES in RPECT. 展开更多

An efficient approach was introduced for improving the condition of major controlled rolling process pa- rameters of roughing, finishing and coiling temperatures and optimizing these parameters to obtain minimum grain size and maximum dome height simultaneously. Taguchi method combined with grey relational analysis was applied to achieve optimum grain size and dome height during controlled rolling process. For this purpose, four levels for the above temperatures were chosen and sixteen experiments were conducted based on orthogonal array of Taguchi meth- od. Based on Taguchi approach, signal-to-noise (S/N) ratios were calculated and used in order to obtain the opti- mum levels for every input parameter. Analysis of variance revealed that finishing and coiling temperatures have the maximum effect on the grain size and dome height of microalloyed steels. The confirmation tests with the optimal levels of parameters indicated that the grain size and dome height of controlled rolled microalloyed steels can be im- proved effectively through this approach. 展开更多

In the present paper, controlled rolling and cooling processing was conducted by using a laboratory hot rolling mill. The influence of different processing parameters on the mechanical properties of low carbon cold forging steel was investigated. The results show that the faster cooling after the deformation (especially in low temperature rolling conditions) leads to the refinement of the ferrite grain. The specimen exhibits very good mechanical properties owing to the finer ferrite grains. The pearlite morphologies can also affect the mechanical properties of low carbon cold forging steel. The mechanical properties increase with decreasing final cooling temperature within the range from 650℃ to 570 ℃ due to the finer interlamellar spacing of pearlite colony. The mechanical properties of the specimens with fast cooling after the conventional rolling are not only better than those of the specimens with slow cooling after low temperature rolling, but also almost similar to those of the specimens with fast cooling after low temperature rolling. It is suggested that fast cooling after high temperature rolling (the conventional rolling) process would be of important industrial value. 展开更多

The study of controlled rolling/controlled cooling process parameters which affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of a novel pipeline steel has been optimized by the orthogonal experiment with four factors and three levels in this paper. However, the parameters of thermo-mechanical control process (TMCP) optimized by the Gleeble-3500 hot simulator could not satisfy performance requirements of the X100 pipeline steel. In order to improve the performance of this steel, the influence of finish cooling temperature (FCT) on the microstructure and property is studied in detail. It is found that, as this steel is thermo-mechanically treated by this set of parameters (the start heating temperature, finish rolling temperature (FRT), FCT and cooling rate of 1,180 ℃, 810 ℃, 350 ℃ and 35 ℃/s, respectively), the micro- structures are mainly composed of granular bainite (GB) and acicular ferrite (AF). The effective grain sizes are below 20 μm; the steel reaches the optimal balance between the strength and the toughness; the yield strength is 695 MPa; the tensile strength is 768 MPa; the elongation is 16.6 %; the impact energy is 262 J at room temperature. To avoid intergranular corrosion and obtain microstructural homogenization, the conventional SUS304 austenitic stainless steel needs to be solution annealed after hot rolling. This study investigates the thermal-mechanical controlled process (TMCP) of SUS304 steel, especially the controlled rolling and online accelerated cooling procedures. The objective of this research is to reduce or even prevent carbide precipitation based on the description of the time- temperature-precipitation (TTP) curve. The dynamic and post-dynamic recrystallization behaviors of this steel ensured the homogenization of grains in this process due to, which was studied by the hot compression tests. The microstructure and the properties of the TMCP-produced SUS304 steel strip were compared with the conventional method of solution annealing. Based on the above results, the newly developed TMCP-produced SUS304 hot-rolled austenitic stainless steel strip has been successfully produced and it can be directly utilized in the cold rolling process without solution annealing. 展开更多
