A Study on Parts of Speech Conversion in English and Chinese from the Perspective of Translation

Parts of speech conversion refers to transforming the certain words of the source language into another category words of the target language, which is one of the common methods and techniques used in the translation of English and Chinese languages. This paper starts from a relatively significant difference in English and Chinese language— the tendency of static words in English in contrast to that of dynamic words in Chinese, to explore the theoretical basis of transference in parts of speech in English and Chinese language translation. Combining with a large number of examples, the author puts forward some skills on transformation of parts of speech in English-Chinese translation to guide translation practice. The study found that the theoretical basis of the conversion in English and Chinese mostly including:1) there is a boundary ambiguity between lexical category;2)English SV/SVO structure is rigorous, which leads to expressing the dynamic meaning by means of using other lexical category; 3) the development of social culture not only makes new words continue to increase rapidly, but also gives many used words with new meanings; 4)it is acknowledged in Lexical morphology that English words which come from derivation are in larger number and derivations can make the word class of the corresponding original words either the same or different. The dynamic and specific features of Chinese make it more use of verbs in language use. Thus, in the process of translation, appropriate parts of speech conversion can make the translation more in line with their own habits of expression.

On the Conversion of Parts of Speech in English-Chinese Translation

Conversion refers to the transformation of parts of speech in some words while maintaining the original content unchanged in order to make the translated text sound smooth and fluent as well as more idiomatic in the target language. In E-C translation, conversion of pars of speech is one of the most important translation methods. Several different forms about conversion of parts of speech are introduced through analyzing the differences and usages between the two languages so that a better version in E-C translation can be got.

Since 1999, there have been 11 Sino-German Human Rights symposiums. Due to the concept of peace and development and the principle of dialogue through consultation, non- confrontation and pragmatism with equality, which have been upheld by organizers, such symposiums have made great achievements. The dialogue mechanism for human rights topics between China and Germany has helped construct a common, accessible and interactive platform for pushing forward human rights legal advancement in both countries, which has brought about a positive influence on the develop- ment of the human rights cause in the two countries. Strengthening legal construction and ensuring hu- man rights are not only the shared aspiration of all the people in the world, but also the irreversible his- torical trend of human civilization. The symposium, with the theme of international law and human rights protection, encourages participants to discuss and share theories and practices in human rights studies, which makes a significant contribu- tion to enriching the modern human rights concept and building a new type of international cooperation. The international community always pays great attention to the relation- ship between human rights and legal governance. China always abides by international human rights con- ventions including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which set up fundamental principles for promoting and ensuring human rights, and has endorsed 26 inter- national human rights conventions such as the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Meanwhile, China, through legislation, jurisdiction and admin- istration, brings into full play the active role of international human rights conventions in ensuring hu- man rights in the country.

AN IMPROVED ALGORITHM OF GMM VOICE CONVERSION SYSTEM BASED ON CHANGING THE TIME-SCALE

This paper improves and presents an advanced method of the voice conversion system based on Gaussian Mixture Models(GMM) models by changing the time-scale of speech.The Speech Transformation and Representation using Adaptive Interpolation of weiGHTed spectrum(STRAIGHT) model is adopted to extract the spectrum features,and the GMM models are trained to generate the conversion function.The spectrum features of a source speech will be converted by the conversion function.The time-scale of speech is changed by extracting the converted features and adding to the spectrum.The conversion voice was evaluated by subjective and objective measurements.The results confirm that the transformed speech not only approximates the characteristics of the target speaker,but also more natural and more intelligible.

Analysis of Translation on Conversations in A Dream in Red Mansions via the Perspective of Speech Act Theory

From the perspective of Speech Act Theory, it aims to analyze the translation of a novel—A Dream in Red Mansions provided by Yang Xianyi. It analyzes and appraises some conversations via a simple evaluation model based on the realization of three speech acts that the writer would like to let readers understand. It finally arrives at the conclusion that the quoted version of conversations is vivid and appropriate except for a few expressions.

On the Regulation of Racist Speech

The legal regulation of racist speech involves limitation on the freedom of speech, which requires prudent trade-offs between freedom and quality. The protection of the freedom of speech, although of great value to a democratic society, does not include the pro tection of racist speech. The justification for regulating racist speech lies in the impact of racial ly-charged speech, not in the content of the speech itself. The regulation of racist speech should take into consideration thecriteriaofsubjectivemalignancy,necessityandproportionality.Due to their social status and special role in a democratic society, the media and political figures should bear a more stringent duty of care because of the harm and consequences of their racist remarks, which are far greater than those of other groups. During the pandemic, legal regula tion is required regarding remarks of politicians and the media that imply discrimination linked to CoVID-19.

Successful totally laparoscopic right trihepatectomy following conversion therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma:A case report

BACKGROUND About 20%-30%of newly diagnosed hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients are surgically feasible due to a variety of reasons.Active conversion therapy may provide opportunities of surgery for these patients.Nevertheless,the choice of surgical procedure is controversial after successful conversion therapy.We report a patient with HCC who underwent successful laparoscopic right trisectionectomy after conversion therapy with portal vein embolization and transarterial chemoembolization.CASE SUMMARY A 67-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with epigastric distention/discomfort and nausea/vomiting for more than 1 mo.Contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan of the abdomen demonstrated multiple tumors(the largest was≥10 cm in diameter)located in the right liver and left medial lobe,and the left lateral lobe was normal.The future remnant liver(FRL)of the left lateral lobe accounted for only 18%of total liver volume after virtual resection on the three-dimensional liver model.Conversion therapy was adopted after orally administered entecavir for antiviral treatment.First,the right portal vein was embolized.Then tumor embolization was performed via the variant hepatic arteries.After 3 wk,the FRL of the left lateral lobe accounted for nearly 30%of the total liver volume.Totally laparoscopic right trisectionectomy was performed under combined epidural and general anesthesia.The in situ resection was performed via an anterior approach.The operating time was 240 min.No clamping was required during the surgery,and the intraoperative blood loss was 300 mL.There were no postoperative complications such as bile leakage,and the incision healed well.The patient was discharged on the 8th postoperative day.During the 3-mo follow-up,there was no recurrence and obvious hyperplasia of residual liver was observed.Alpha-fetoprotein decreased significantly and tended to be normal.CONCLUSION Due to the different biological characteristics of the liver cancer and the pathophysiological features of the liver from other organs,the conversion treatment should take into account both the feasibility of tumor downstaging and the volume and function of the remnant liver.Our case provides a reference for clinicians in terms of both conversion therapy and laparoscopic right trisectionectomy.
