Research on Jiangxi’s International Image Based on NOW Corpus

This paper retrieves and classifies reports on Jiangxi from 2010 to June 2024 in the NOW corpus,analyzing the status quo of Jiangxi’s international image portrayed by English news media through word frequency and collocates.It is found that international attention towards Jiangxi is closely related to the holding of the World Conference on VR Industry in Nanchang,and there are apparent regional disparities.With a severe labeling of its mining industry,Jiangxi’s international image lacks independence and distinctiveness,resulting in a relatively monotonous overall image.Based on this,relevant suggestions for further enhancing Jiangxi’s international image are proposed.

English Translation of Chinese Natural Ecological Discourse:A Corpus-based Case Study on Xi Jinping:The Governance of China

Amid the increasingly severe global natural eco-environment,it is necessary to build a natural ecological civilization by constructing an ecological civilization discourse.Against this background,this study compiles a corpus of natural ecological discourse in the English translation of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China(short for Xi).By using Wordsmith and AntConc,this study explores the linguistic features of the ecological discourse in English translation of Xi in the following dimensions,including high-frequency words,keywords,word collocations,concordance lines.This study aims to analyze the concepts and attitudes towards natural ecology,so as to provide certain valuable insights for the construction of China’s discourse on natural ecological civilization.The study found that the natural ecology discourse involving in the English translation of Xi turned out to be ecologically beneficial.

A Corpus-Based Study on Explicitation in English-Chinese Political Translation

Based on corpus-related software and strategic framework of explicitation translation in applied texts,this paper uses Report on the Work of the Government as an example and explore the explicitation in political texts.According to the research results,political texts have shown explicitation in four sectors of the framework,especially the sector of first person plural pronouns,with quantity,language,culture,and others as influential factors.

A Corpus Study of Acupuncture from the Perspective of Mass Media Based on the Corpus of Contemporary American English

Based on the Corpus of Contemporary American English(COCA),this study examines acupuncture from the perspective of mass media.Acupuncture has been circulating throughout the Chinese Cultural Circle since the Qin and Han Dynasties,and has since spread directly or indirectly to the rest of the world.The United States boasts the world’s second-largest acupuncture market,with its laws,regulations,industry growth,research,and education all positively influencing the development of acupuncture in other nations.This study uses COCA to analyze the form and content of acupuncture’s dissemination in eight different types of media.The findings show that acupuncture appears in COCA a total of 1,788 times,with the highest frequency in magazines,followed by blogs,and the lowest frequency in fiction.These findings reveal the popularity of acupuncture in mass media in the United States and provide empirical data and insights for the future dissemination and development of acupuncture in the United States.

The Application and Effect Evaluation of Corpus Linguistics in English Teaching

This paper explores the application and effect evaluation of corpus linguistics in English teaching.It first introduces the basic concepts and development history of corpus linguistics,then analyzes its connection with language teaching theories,discussing the advantages and challenges of using corpora in language teaching.Next,it delves into the methods and technologies for building and utilizing corpora,as well as their role in developing teaching resources.Lastly,within the framework and methods of teaching effect evaluation,specific application cases of corpus linguistics in teaching design are analyzed,and their effects are assessed.Recommendations for teaching improvement and future development directions are also proposed.

A Corpus-Based Behavioral Profile Study of the Near-Synonyms: Serious, Severe, Grave, Grievous

Using Corpus of Contemporary American English as the source data,this paper carries out a corpus-based behavioral profile study to investigate four near-synonymous adjectives(serious,severe,grave,and grievous),focusing on their register and the types of nouns they each modify.Although sharing core meaning,these adjectives exhibit variations in formality levels and usage patterns.The identification of fine-grained usage differences complements the current inadequacies in describing these adjectives.Furthermore,the study reaffirms the effectiveness of the corpus-based behavioral profile approach in examining synonym differences.

A Corpus-Based Study on Grammaticalization and Lexicalization in Medical English

Medical English,as a specialized form of English,has attracted considerable attention due to its unique linguistic features.Grammaticalization and lexicalization represent critical mechanisms in the evolution of language and are essential for understanding and mastering medical English.This study,drawing on the MEDLINE corpus,investigates the characteristics of grammaticalization and lexicalization in medical English from the perspective of cognitive linguistics,aiming to unveil its underlying cognitive foundations.The findings suggest that the processes of grammaticalization and lexicalization in medical English reflect cognitive mechanisms such as categorization,inferential processing,and pragmatic strategies.These insights provide novel approaches and methodologies for the teaching of medical English.

基于Corpus库的词语相似度计算方法

构建了一个语义关联库,称为Corpus库,该库使用词语空间和关系空间结构化地存储了词语和其上下文之间的统计信息,并通过阅读大量的预料数据来训练其相关数据。详细介绍了Corpus库的训练方法,并对训练过程中出现的大量关系提出了裁剪方案。在此基础上,通过构建词语的上下文关系向量提出了一种词语相似度算法。实验证明这是一种有效的对词语相似度进行计算的方法。

CEECs国家的农地细碎化与土地整理——以保加利亚为例

以CEECs国家中的保加利亚为例,分析了农地细碎化产生的原因、历史与现状,指出农地细碎化导致经济衰退、失业率上升、农村贫困加剧,不利于农业机械化和新技术的推广,影响了经济和社会的可持续发展。对保加利亚政府为解决农地细碎化问题展开的土地整理项目试点进行分析,并对其土地整理战略进行了详细说明。

转型与经济增长——对中东欧国家(CEEC)的实证分析

本文对中东欧国家(CEEC)十几年来经济转型与增长的实践进行了论证和检验。文章第一部分通过分析一组宏观经济增长率指标,对CEEC转型历程进行总体把握;第二部分考察这些国家实际GDP增长率指标,并提出转型期三个阶段的划分;第三部分运用索洛模型对CEEC经济增长进行总体和分阶段检验;文章最后部分分析和论证了CEEC转型和增长过程中出现的资本、贸易和劳动力缺口问题,并提出一些建议和措施。

Corpus-based Translation Class Design Study

This essay accesses to the approach of corpus applied to translation teaching, in order to improve the teaching methods, lay the foundation for the translation teaching reform, cultivate students research ability, and finally to establish a new type of translation teaching design-- ＂ability-development-oriented design＂. Also, this paper takes the word ＂good＂ for example, looking for the general rules to translate it and its common collocation, in order to design a translation class. Corpus-based learning and teaching provides us a new feasible way of translation class.

English translation of modern Chinese verbal ＂-le＂ --A study based on English-Chinese ＆ Chinese-English parallel corpus

Through the contrastive study on functional load of ＂-le＂ in original Chinese texts and translated Chinese texts, the results show that past tense, perfective aspect and seldom other forms are the corresponding forms of ＂-le＂ and its translation has a close relationship with verb classes, pragmatic functions, contextual meaning and so on.

Corpus Linguistics and its Application in ELT

The use of corpus linguistics in ELT has become a new tendency.At the beginning,a historical retrospect is given to clarify the historical development of corpus linguistics.Afterwards,the various definitions of corpus linguistics are discussed in detail,and a personal perspective is put forward after citing the dispute about corpus linguistics.In the second place,the four criteria of a corpus are classified.Meanwhile,four characteristics of corpus linguistics are enumerated.In the last place,the oversea and domestic applications of corpus linguistics in ELT are listed,and Data-Driven Learning is presented as a typical example.

Chinese College Students' Use of Copular Verbs——A Corpus-based Study

Adopting corpus-based approach, the use of copular verbs by Chinese college English learners is studied through a comparison between the COLEC and the LOCNESS. The main findings are: 1)Chinese college English learners under-use copular verbs; 2) Chinese college English learners select a limited variety of copular verbs; 3) Types of complement after most copular verbs used by Chinese college English learners lack variety; 4) Chinese college English learners use less various and more simpler complements than native speakers.

A Corpus-based Analysis of Adjective/Noun Collocationwith Big and Large as Examples

Adopting the corpus-based approach, this paper analyzes the adjective/noun collocation with two English words big and large as examples by comparing data from Chinese Learner English Corpus (CLEC) and those from native speaker corpora British National Corpus (BNC). It is observed that collocates chosen by Chinese students differ greatly from those chosen by native speakers, on the basis of which this paper compares and illustrates the differences of these words and aims to highlight the important role of the corpus-based collocational research in English vocabulary teaching.

Corpus Analysis of the Various Errors Made by the Student

The software Wordsmith has been commonly used in corpus linguistics.In this paper,the author used the tool of Concord in Wordsmith to analyze various errors made by a student.Five passages made by the students are used.After annotating on the errors,the author uses Concord to sort out each error maker and made classification chart of the errors.All the errors are classified into two categories:errors caused by carelessness and by language ability.After analyzing,there are mainly three kinds of errors and in the first category and five kinds of errors in the second category.

Corpus-based Study on the use of "really" in Chinese Students' Writing

This corpus-based study aims to explore if the high frequently used word "really" is at a risk of overused,underused or misused in the writing of Chinese learners.Then draw attention on English learning and teaching and raise learners' awareness of the structural and collocation complexity of words.

Introduction to an Interlanguage Corpus-WECCL 2.0

Authentic and objective material with regard to a certain language is the bare necessity and premise of any kind of linguistic research and then on the basis of the data, corpus-based approach, which is also addressed as a performance-based approach, has been involved in almost every corner of linguistics. Thus far, it is hardly surprising that some typical Corpora are essential for contemporary Chinese EFL's study. WECCL 2.0, as a representative of interlanguage corpus, is introduced in this paper.

Chinese EFL Teachers' Attitudes toward Corpus Use in Collocation Instruction

The purpose of the present study was to investigate Chinese EFL(English as a Foreign Language)teachers’attitudes toward corpus use in collocation instruction.Fourteen Chinese EFL teachers from seven different colleges or universities answered a questionnaire asking their perceptions about corpus use in collocation instruction.The statistical analysis revealed that significant difference(t=2.449,df.=9,p=.037<0.1)was found between males and females in their perception of the learnability of the searching technique in collocation corpus.Besides,the result also revealed that significant differences were found between novice and experienced teachers’perception of helpfulness of corpus in writing native-like sentences(t=5.75,df=11,p<0.1),identifying collocation errors in English(t=5.75,df=11,p<0.1),usefulness of corpus in searching for English collocations(t=2.93,df=12,p<0.1),and advocacy of corpus to colleagues(t=5.75,df=11,p<0.1).Finally,some pedagogical implications were put forward.
