Model atmospheres of the close visual binary star Cou 1511 (HIP 12552) are constructed using grids of Kuruz's blanketed models to build the individual synthetic spectral energy distributions (SEDs) for both compo...Model atmospheres of the close visual binary star Cou 1511 (HIP 12552) are constructed using grids of Kuruz's blanketed models to build the individual synthetic spectral energy distributions (SEDs) for both components. These synthetic SEDs are combined together for the entire system and compared with the observational one following A1-Wardat's complex method for analyzing close visual binary stars. The entire observational SED of the system is used as a reference for comparison between the synthetic SED and the observed one. The parameters of both components are derived as: Teff = 6180 4- 50 K, Tebfr = 5865 + 70 K, log 9a = 4.35 ± 0.12, log 9b = 4.45± 0.14, Ra = 1.262 ± 0.08 R⊙^eff, Rb = 1.006 ± 0.07 R⊙^ett, La = 2.09 -4- 0.10 L⊙ and Lb = 1.08 ± 0.12 L⊙, with spectral types F8V and G1.5V for components (a, b) respectively and age of 3.0 ± 0.9 Gyr. A modified orbit of the system is built and the masses of the two components are calculated as Ma = 1.17 ±0.11 Me and Mb = 1.06 ± 0.10 Me.展开更多

The coupler is fundamental for a coupled model to realize complex interactions among component models.This paper focuses on the coupling process of Wave-Circulation(W-C) coupled model which consists of MASNUM(key labo...The coupler is fundamental for a coupled model to realize complex interactions among component models.This paper focuses on the coupling process of Wave-Circulation(W-C) coupled model which consists of MASNUM(key laboratory of marine science and numerical modeling wave model)and POM(Princeton Ocean Model).The current coupling module of this coupled model is based on the inefficient I/O file,which has already become a performance bottleneck especially when the coupled model utilizes a large number of processes.To improve the performance of the W-C model,a flexible coupling module based on the model coupling toolkit(MCT) is designed and implemented to replace the current I/O file coupling module in the coupled model.Empirical studies that we have carried out demonstrate that our online coupling module can dramatically improve the parallel performance of the coupled model.The online coupling module outperforms the I/O file coupling module.When processes increase to 96,the whole process of EXP-C takes only 695.8 seconds,which is only 58.8%of the execution time of EXP-F.Based on our experiments under 2D Parallel Decomposition(2DPD),we suggest setting parallel decomposition strategies automatically to component models in order to achieve high parallel efficiency.展开更多

In this paper, parallel library, portable extensible toolkit for scientific computation (PETSc), is used to solve linear systems in soil-water coupled finite element method (FEM) for geotechnical problems. The paralle...In this paper, parallel library, portable extensible toolkit for scientific computation (PETSc), is used to solve linear systems in soil-water coupled finite element method (FEM) for geotechnical problems. The parallel environment is integrated into GLEAVES, which is a geotechnical software package used for the finite element simulation. The linear system Ax = b which is a fundamental and the most time-consuming part of the FEM is solved with iterative solvers in PETSc. In order to find a robust and effective combination of iterative solvers and corresponding preconditioners for the soil-water coupled problems, performance evaluations on Krylov subspace methods and four preconditioners are carried out. The results indicate that general minimal residual (GMRES) method coupled with preconditioners can provide an effective solution. The application to a construction project is presented to illustrate the potential of the proposed solution.展开更多
