This paper develops a generalized scalar auxiliary variable(SAV)method for the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations.The backward Euler method is used for discretizing the temporal derivative of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations.In this method,the system is decoupled and linearized to avoid solving the non-linear equation at each step.The theoretical analysis proves that the generalized SAV method can preserve the maximum bound principle and energy stability,and this is confirmed by the numerical result,and also shows that the numerical algorithm is stable. 展开更多

We derive the multi-hump nondegenerate solitons for the(2+1)-dimensional coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations with propagation distance dependent diffraction,nonlinearity and gain(loss)using the developing Hirota bilinear method,and analyze the dynamical behaviors of these nondegenerate solitons.The results show that the shapes of the nondegenerate solitons are controllable by selecting different wave numbers,varying diffraction and nonlinearity parameters.In addition,when all the variable coefficients are chosen to be constant,the solutions obtained in this study reduce to the shape-preserving nondegenerate solitons.Finally,it is found that the nondegenerate two-soliton solutions can be bounded to form a double-hump two-soliton molecule after making the velocity of one double-hump soliton resonate with that of the other one. 展开更多

Based on the closed connections among the homogeneous balance (HB) method and Clarkson-KruSkal (CK) method, we study the similarity reductions of the generalized variable coefficients 2D KdV equation. In the meantime it is shown that this leads to a direct reduction in the form of ordinary differential equation under some integrability conditions between the variable coefficients. Two different cases have been discussed, the search for solutions of those ordinary differential equations yielded many exact travelling and solitonic wave solutions in the form of hyperbolic and trigonometric functions under some constraints between the variable coefficients. 展开更多

In this paper, the symmetry method has been carried over to the generalized variable coefficients Zakharov- Kuznetsov equation. The infinitesimal symmetries and the optimal system are deduced and from this optimal system seven basic fields are determined, and for every vector field in the optimal system the admissible forms of the coefficients are found and this also leads us to transform the given equation into partial differential equations in two variables. After using some referenced transformations the mentioned partial differential equations eventually reduce to ordinary differential equations. The search for solutions to those equations has yielded many exact solutions in most cases. 展开更多

In this paper, the modified CK's direct method to find symmetry groups of nonlinear partial differential equation is extended to (2+1)-dimensional variable coeffficient canonical generalized KP (VCCGKP) equation. As a result, symmetry groups, Lie point symmetry group and Lie symmetry for the VCCGKP equation are obtained. In fact, the Lie point symmetry group coincides with that obtained by the standard Lie group approach. Applying the given Lie symmetry, we obtain five types of similarity reductions and a lot of new exact solutions, including hyperbolic function solutions, triangular periodic solutions, Jacobi elliptic function solutions and rational solutions, for the VCCGKP equation. 展开更多

Validation of general linear modeling for identifying factors associated with Quality of Life: A comparison with structural equation modeling

Purpose: General linear modeling (GLM) is usually applied to investigate factors associated with the domains of Quality of Life (QOL). A summation score in a specific sub-domain is regressed by a statistical model including factors that are associated with the sub-domain. However, using the summation score ignores the influence of individual questions. Structural equation modeling (SEM) can account for the influence of each question’s score by compositing a latent variable from each question of a sub-domain. The objective of this study is to determine whether a conventional approach such as GLM, with its use of the summation score, is valid from the standpoint of the SEM approach. Method: We used the Japanese version of the Maugeri Foundation Respiratory Failure Questionnaire, a QOL measure, on 94 patients with heart failure. The daily activity sub-domain of the questionnaire was selected together with its four accompanying factors, namely, living together, occupation, gender, and the New York Heart Association’s cardiac function scale (NYHA). The association level between individual factors and the daily activity sub-domain was estimated using SEM?and GLM, respectively. The standard partial regression coefficients of GLM and standardized path coefficients of SEM were compared. If?these coefficients were similar (absolute value of the difference -0.06 and -0.07 for the GLM and SEM. Likewise, the estimates of occupation, gender, and NYHA were -0.18 and -0.20, -0.08 and -0.08, 0.51 and 0.54, respectively. The absolute values of the difference for each factor were 0.01, 0.02, 0.00, and 0.03, respectively. All differences were less than 0.05. This means that these two approaches lead to similar conclusions. Conclusion: GLM is a valid method for exploring association factors with a domain in QOL. 展开更多
