Crack initiation stress and strain of jointed rock containing multi-cracks under uniaxial compressive loading: A particle flow code approach 被引量:15

The ratio of crack initiation stress to the uniaxial compressive strength(SCI,B/SUC,B) and the ratio of axial strain at the crack initiation stress to the axial strain at the uniaxial compressive strength(B,UCB,CI,A,A... The ratio of crack initiation stress to the uniaxial compressive strength(SCI,B/SUC,B) and the ratio of axial strain at the crack initiation stress to the axial strain at the uniaxial compressive strength(B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS) were studied by performing numerical stress analysis on blocks having multi flaws at close spacing's under uniaxial loading using PFC3 D. The following findings are obtained: SCI,B/SUC,B has an average value of about 0.5 with a variability of ± 0.1. This range agrees quite well with the values obtained by former research. For joint inclination angle, β=90°,B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS is found to be around 0.48 irrespective of the value of joint continuity factor, k. No particular relation is found betweenB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS and β; however, the average B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS seems to slightly decrease with increasing k. The variability ofB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS is found to increase with k.Based on the cases studied in this work,B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS ranges between 0.3 and 0.5. This range is quite close to the range of 0.4to 0.6 obtained for SCI,B/SUC,B. The highest variability of ± 0.12 forB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS is obtained for k=0.8. For the remaining k values the variability ofB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS can be expressed within ± 0.05. This finding is very similar to the finding obtained for the variability of SCI,B/SUC,B. 展开更多

This paper has simulated the driving force of solidification crack of stainless steels, that is, stress/strain field in the trail of molten pool. Firstly, the effect of the deformation in the molten pool was eliminated after the element rebirth method was adopted. Secondly, the influence of solidification shrinkage was taken into account by increasing thermal expansion coefficients of the steels at elevated temperatures. Finally, the stress/strain distributions of different conditions have been computed and analyzed. Furthermore, the driving force curves of the solidification crack of the steels have been obtained by converting strain time curves into strain temperature curves, which founds a basis for predicting welding solidification crack. 展开更多

Finite element computations are carried out to simulate plane strain crack growth on a bimaterial interface under the assumption of small scale yielding.The modified Guron constitutive equation and the element vanish technique introduced by Tvergaard et al.are used to model the final formation of an open crack.It is found from the calculation that the critical fracture toughness for crack growth is much low- er in bimaterials than that in homogeneous material.The critical fracture toughness is strongly dependent on material properties of the bimaterial pair and the mixed mode of remote loads.The interface crack grows in the more compliant(lower hardening)material or in the weaker(lower yield strength)material.In Mode-Ⅰ loading,the crack grows zigzag along the interface. 展开更多

The mode I plane strain crack tip field with strain gradient effects is presented in this paper based on a simplified strain gradient theory within the framework proposed by Acharya and Bassani.The theory retains the essential structure of the incremental version of the conventional J_2 deformation theory.No higher-order stress is introduced and no extra boundary value conditions beyond the conventional ones are required.The strain gradient effects are considered in the constitutive relation only through the instantaneous tangent modulus.The strain gradient measures are included into the tangent modulus as internal parameters.Therefore the boundary value problem is the same as that in the conventional theory.Two typical crack problems are studied:(a)the crack tip field under the small scale yielding condition induced by a linear elastic mode-I K-field and(b)the complete field for a compact tension specimen.The calculated results clearly show that the stress level near the crack tip with strain gradient effects is considerable higher than that in the classical theory.The singularity of the strain field near the crack tip is nearly equal to the square-root singularity and the singularity of the stress field is slightly greater than it.Consequently,the J-integral is no longer path independent and increases monotonically as the radius of the calculated circular contour decreases. 展开更多

The strain gradient effect becomes significant when the size of frac- ture process zone around a crack tip is comparable to the intrinsic material length l, typically of the order of microns. Using the new strain gradient deformation theory given by Chen and Wang, the asymptotic fields near a crack tip in an elastic-plastic material with strain gradient effects are investigated. It is established that the dom- inant strain field is irrotational. For mode Ⅰ plane stress crack tip asymptotic field, the stress asymptotic field and the couple stress asymptotic field can not exist si- multaneously. In the stress dominated asymptotic field, the angular distributions of stresses are consistent with the classical plane stress HRR field; In the couple stress dominated asymptotic field, the angular distributions of couple stresses are consistent with that obtained by Huang et al. For mode Ⅱ plane stress and plane strain crack tip asymptotic fields, only the stress-dominated asymptotic fields exist. The couple stress asymptotic field is less singular than the stress asymptotic fields. The stress asymptotic fields are the same as mode Ⅱ plane stress and plane strain HRR fields, respectively. The increase in stresses is not observed in strain gradient plasticity for mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ, because the present theory is based only on the rotational gradi- ent of deformation and the crack tip asymptotic fields are irrotational and dominated by the stretching gradient. 展开更多

In this paper, the analytical solution of stress field for a strained reinforcement layer bonded to a lip-shaped crack under a remote mode III uniform load and a concentrated load is obtained explicitly in the series form by using the technical of conformal mapping and the method of analytic continuation. The effects of material combinations, bond of interface and geometric configurations on interfaciai stresses generated by eigenstrain, remote load and concentrated load are studied. The results show that the stress concentration and interfaciai stresses can be reduced by rational material combinations and geometric configurations designs for different load forms. 展开更多

A new extrapolation approach was proposed to calculate the strain energy release rates of complex cracks. The point_by_point closed method was used to calculate the closed energy, thus the disadvantage of self_inconsistency in some published papers can be avoided. The disadvantage is that the closed energy is repeatedly calculated: when closed nodal number along radial direction is more than two, the displacement of nodes behind the crack tip that is multiplied by nodal forces, the closed energy has been calculated and the crack surfaces have been closed, and that closed energy of middle point is calculated repeatedly. A DCB (double cantilever beam) specimen was calculated and compared with other theoretical results, it is shown that a better coincidence is obtained. In addition the same results are also obtained for compact tension specimen, three point bend specimen and single edge cracked specimen. In comparison with theoretical results,the error can be limited within 1 per cent. This method can be extended to analyze the fracture of composite laminates with various delamination cracks. 展开更多

In this paper,a slow bending speed varestraint test method with con- tinuously adjustable deformation rate for testing hot cracking sensitivity is de- veloped and its working principle is described.From great amounts of tests,it is known that strain rate affects the sensitivity of solidification crack because of its influnce on material ductility in BTR directly.The smaller the strain rate, the better the ductility and the lower the solidification crack sensitivity.The ex- tent of this effect varies with different materials,for LF-6 aluminum alloy,it is great,but for 16Mn,19Mn5 and 20G steels,it is small.Through systematic investigation,it is concluded that strain rate of a metal during welding can be lowered and the resistance to solidification crack can be enhanced by reducing structrual restraint and by adjustment of welding parameters. 展开更多

A plane strain mode 1 crack tip field with strain gradient effects is investigated.A new strain gradient theory is used.An elastic-power law hardening strain gradient material is considered and two hardening laws,i.e.a separation law and an integration law are used respectively.As for the material with the separation law hardening,the angular distributions of stresses are consistent with the HRR field,which differs from the stress results;the angular distributions of couple stresses are the same as the couple stress results.For the material with the integration law hardening,the stress field and the couple stress field can not exist simultaneously,which is the same as the conclusion,but for the stress dominated field,the an- gular distributions of stresses are consistent with the HRR field;for the couple stress dominated field,the an- gular distributions of couple stresses are consistent with those in Ref.However,the increase in stresses is not observed in strain gradient plasticity because the present theory is based on the rotation gradient of the deformation only,while the crack tip field of mode 1 is dominated by the tension gradient,which will be shown in another paper. 展开更多

The analysis and calculation show that at the crack tip the strain possesses logarithmic singularity (ln(R/r))(1/(n+1)) while the stress is like (ln(R/r))(-n/(n+1)), therefore the asymptotic behaviour of the elastic strain-softening viscoplastic field is revealed under the antiplane shear. 展开更多

The influences of pre-strain on the mechanical property and fatigue crack growth of 2E12 aluminum alloy were evaluated by SEM,TEM,mechanical property and fatigue tests. The axial fatigue tests were conducted under a constant amplitude sinusoidal wave loading at stress ratio of 0.1 in laboratory air and salt fog at room temperature. The results show that the yield stress of pre strain material is higher than that of the material without undergoing pre-strain,but pre-strain can not make the increase of the growth rate of fatigue crack. Fatigue crack growth rates of the alloy in salt fog are higher than those in air. The increased fatigue crack growth of the alloy in a given environment and more brittle striations can be observed in salt fog. 展开更多

Applying these generally analytical expressions to the concrete cracks, the analytical expressions of perfectly plastic stress fields at the stationary tips of Mode I, Mode II and Mixed-Mode I-II plane-strain cracks are obtained. 为深入揭示裂纹稳定扩展阶段的岩石损伤状态,以干燥、自然和饱水状态砂岩为研究对象,采用体积应变法测定起裂应力和损伤应力值,进一步通过增量循环加卸载试验,综合分析了裂纹稳定扩展阶段的残余应变、变形模量和能量演化规律。结果表明... 为深入揭示裂纹稳定扩展阶段的岩石损伤状态,以干燥、自然和饱水状态砂岩为研究对象,采用体积应变法测定起裂应力和损伤应力值,进一步通过增量循环加卸载试验,综合分析了裂纹稳定扩展阶段的残余应变、变形模量和能量演化规律。结果表明:轴向残余应变随轴向应力水平增加而增加,其增幅表现为先减小、后稳定、再增大,且增幅稳定阶段对应于裂纹稳定扩展阶段;在裂纹稳定扩展阶段,加载过程和卸载过程变形模量均呈线性减少趋势,而耗散能密度呈线性增加趋势。上述演化规律适用于不同含水状态砂岩,但其具体数值与含水率有关。对于裂纹稳定扩展阶段,加载过程变形模量可有效表征砂岩损伤状态,基于含水率和轴向应力水平的线性数学模型可用于评价工程岩体的实际损伤状态。 展开更多

针对实际工程中安全性与经济性的需求,基于Hutchinson-Rice-Rosengren(HRR)应力-应变场提出一种Ⅰ型疲劳裂纹扩展速率预测模型。采用HRR应力-应变场描述裂纹尖端区域的应力应变分布状态,在考虑循环载荷及应变能密度理论的前提下,定义一... 针对实际工程中安全性与经济性的需求,基于Hutchinson-Rice-Rosengren(HRR)应力-应变场提出一种Ⅰ型疲劳裂纹扩展速率预测模型。采用HRR应力-应变场描述裂纹尖端区域的应力应变分布状态,在考虑循环载荷及应变能密度理论的前提下,定义一个裂纹尖端损伤区域;同时,为消除裂纹尖端的应力奇异值问题,建立考虑裂纹尖端钝化效应的钝化半径计算方法;结合RICE的塑性叠加法与塑性应变能失效准则,发展一种Ⅰ型疲劳裂纹扩展速率模型。利用所提LIUX(HRR)预测模型对9种金属材料裂纹扩展速率进行计算,与Pandey(HRR)与CHEN-CAI Rice-Kujawski-Ellyin(RKE)两种裂纹扩展预测模型计算结果进行对比分析。同时,基于R2拟合效果及疲劳裂纹扩展三阶段的不同需求,给出三种预测模型的预测结果,并从安全性、精确性及经济性三方面给出相应的评分。最终结果表明,LIUX(HRR)预测模型适用范围更广,拟合效果更佳,能够更好地满足实际工程中的经济性与安全性的需求。 展开更多
