Crimes are expected to rise with an increase in population and the rising gap between society’s income levels.Crimes contribute to a significant portion of the socioeconomic loss to any society,not only through its i...Crimes are expected to rise with an increase in population and the rising gap between society’s income levels.Crimes contribute to a significant portion of the socioeconomic loss to any society,not only through its indirect damage to the social fabric and peace but also the more direct negative impacts on the economy,social parameters,and reputation of a nation.Policing and other preventive resources are limited and have to be utilized.The conventional methods are being superseded by more modern approaches of machine learning algorithms capable of making predictions where the relationships between the features and the outcomes are complex.Making it possible for such algorithms to provide indicators of specific areas that may become criminal hot-spots.These predictions can be used by policymakers and police personals alike to make effective and informed strategies that can curtail criminal activities and contribute to the nation’s development.This paper aims to predict factors that most affected crimes in Saudi Arabia by developing a machine learning model to predict an acceptable output value.Our results show that FAMD as features selection methods showed more accuracy on machine learning classifiers than the PCA method.The naïve Bayes classifier performs better than other classifiers on both features selections methods with an accuracy of 97.53%for FAMD,and PCA equals to 97.10%.展开更多

Understanding the essence of the criminogenic contamination of the person and the ways and possibilities of influencing it is a key to increasing the effectiveness of preventive activities of society and the state in ...Understanding the essence of the criminogenic contamination of the person and the ways and possibilities of influencing it is a key to increasing the effectiveness of preventive activities of society and the state in order to reduce the likelihood of committing a criminal offense.This article analyzes the process of determination of criminal conduct.The empirical basis of the scientific article was the provisions of normative legal acts of Ukraine,the provisions of international law,in particular,regarding the determinants of criminal behavior of a person.During the study,general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis,a historical and systemic approach were used.The authors argue that the reasons for criminal conduct are individual and can vary significantly on a case-by-case basis.Its dependence on both biological and social factors is stated.The combination of pathological heredity,social environment,and political and economic factors can cause criminal behavior.At the same time,the psychological aspects of illegal acts are taken into account within almost all criminological theories to a greater or lesser extent.As a result,it is possible to answer a number of questions about the determination and nature of criminal behavior,the reasons for the commission of criminal offenses,the peculiarities of the functioning of the mental sphere,psychological problems,complexes,etc.This research can be useful when improving the methods of crime prevention,identifying offenders,and investigating criminal cases.It was concluded that the processes and phenomena of the own organism and the surrounding reality are perceived and refracted through the psyche of the person himself,that is,subjective.展开更多
Sweden has witnessed an increase in the rates of sexual crimes including rape.Knowledge of who the offenders of these crimes are is therefore of importance for prevention.We aimed to study characteristics of individua...Sweden has witnessed an increase in the rates of sexual crimes including rape.Knowledge of who the offenders of these crimes are is therefore of importance for prevention.We aimed to study characteristics of individuals convicted of rape,aggravated rape,attempted rape or attempted aggravated rape(abbreviated rape+),against a woman≥18years of age,in Sweden.By using information from the Swedish Crime Register,offenders between 15 and 60years old convicted of rapeþbetween 2000 and 2015 were included.Information on substance use disorders,previous criminality and psychiatric disorders were retrieved from Swedish population-based registers,and Latent Class Analysis(LCA)was used to identify classes of rapeþoffenders.A total of 3039 offenders were included in the analysis.A major-ity of them were immigrants(n=1800;59.2%)of which a majority(n=1451;47.7%)were born outside of Sweden.The LCA identified two classes:Class A-low offending class(LOC),and Class B—high offending class(HOC).While offenders in the LOC had low rates of previous criminality,psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders,those included in the HOC had high rates of previous criminality,psychiatric disorders and substance use dis-orders.While HOC may be composed by more“traditional”criminals probably known by the police,the LOC may represent individuals not previously known by the police.These two separated classes,as well as our finding in regard to a majority of the offenders being immi-grants,warrants further studies that take into account the contextual characteristics among these offenders.展开更多
