And finally, it is individual. Personal cha... Language learning is a complex process for many reasons. First, it is closely related to linguistics. Second, language is social as it occurs within certain social contexts. And finally, it is individual. Personal characteristics such as experience, gender and age, attitude and aptitude, motivation, beliefs, self-confidence, and anxiety greatly influence language learning. Among these variables, motivation is considered to be one of the most important factors affecting the success of second or foreign language learning. However, the relationship between motivation and educational achievement is not quite clear. In the current literature, motivation is regarded as socially constructed, therefore as dynamic rather than static. Little research has been conducted on the motivation of Vietnamese students studying English as a compulsory curriculum component rather than as a major from a socio-cultural perspective. Understanding the relationship between student motivation and academic achievement as well as the socio-cultural factors that affect students' motivation will be an important contribution to motivation theory. Therefore, the situation requires longitudinal and in-depth research into student motivation, the factors affecting it during the learning process, and the relationship between student motivation and academic achievement. A mixed method approach has been chosen to meet the needs of the study. It is believed that insights in these areas will help address the issue of motivation at the Police University. 展开更多

The integration radically changes the essence of college English teaching, and therefore the traditional teaching mode has been challenged. In other words, information technology has become an integral part in today' s web-based college English teaching classroom. This paper attempts to read in detail about the Boyer' s teaching academic thought. Combined with the current situation of college English teaching, this paper discusses the feasibility of teaching academic thinking is applied to the English network teaching. A model is established by exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Through the way of questionnaire to the research on the college English network teaching, so as to put forward the solutions and improve the quality of teaching. 展开更多

From the perspective of the sociocultural theory (SCI), this article examines Chinese students' present states of English academic achievements in some private colleges by investigating teacher-student interaction. It then analyzes underlying factors influencing learner's academic ability. Finally it investigates some efficient class teaching strategies to promote their academic development, using class interventions such as the know-want-learn strategy (KWL), the object-explore-success-happy strategy (OESH), the cooperative project between students and teacher's strategy (CPST) and so on. Theoretically, the paper aims to place the SCT perspectives in the foreground. In this situation, intercultural communication also put forward higher requirements and standards for the cultivation of talents. In order to cultivate high-level social talents, the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence falls naturally on college English teaching. In order to meet the development needs of the times, colleges and universities should build a cross-cultural perspective of college English teaching model, used to replace the traditional teaching, so as to better promote the development of students’ ability and personnel training. Therefore, this paper first introduces the concept of intercultural communication. In view of the present teaching model and teaching situation of college English teaching in China, the paper explores the construction of college English teaching model from the perspective of intercultural communication, in order to promote the reform of college English teaching and the cultivation of communicative talents. 展开更多

The majority of extant research studies have established that high school students’athletic participation is positively associated with several educational outcomes,including academic performance.However,the effect of long-term athletic participation on academic performance remains unclear.Using a longitudinal data of 220 students from a high school in eastern Massachusetts of the United States,this study has revealed that athletic participants in this school started with a statistically significant higher GPA than non-participants in the first year of study,and have continued to be higher in the following two years,lag behind significantly,however,in academic achievement growth from their nonparticipation counterparts.The results of the study call for thoughtful decision-making regarding sports programs and athletic policies,proper guidance and adequate support for athletes and an optimal sport-academic culture in American high schools. 展开更多

高校治理过程中的权力博弈、问题透视与矫正措施——基于行政与学术间的关系探析

行政力量与学术力量在高校治理中因学术资源而存在博弈,学术资源会因两种力量不对等而出现较强的行政指向,使学术资源偏离为实现优化配置而坚守的学术逻辑。两种力量间的非完全信息非合作博弈会降低学术资源的配置效率,弱化纯粹学术力... 行政力量与学术力量在高校治理中因学术资源而存在博弈,学术资源会因两种力量不对等而出现较强的行政指向,使学术资源偏离为实现优化配置而坚守的学术逻辑。两种力量间的非完全信息非合作博弈会降低学术资源的配置效率,弱化纯粹学术力量进行科研活动的积极性。限制行政力量对学术力量的干预,使行政力量与学术力量剥离或者将行政权力重心下移,并且将学术力量转化为具有独立决策权的实体组织,能够在一定程度上矫正目前两种权力间的关系。行政权力只能通过学术力量完成指导学术活动的目标,而不能直接干预学术活动。高校治理需要形成以学术力量为主导的办学模式,构建行政服务学术的组织框架,形成以学术为核心的共同体,实现价值理性替代工具理性的目标,提升学术主体创新性科研活动的积极性。 展开更多
