As an important platform on which culture can be demonstrated, the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics not only showcases to the world China's profound traditional culture, but manifests the brilliant mo...As an important platform on which culture can be demonstrated, the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics not only showcases to the world China's profound traditional culture, but manifests the brilliant modern Chinese civilization.This fully reflects that Chinese culture is deeply rooted in its tradition and thus obtains and exhibits its strong vitality. In the performances of the opening ceremony, how is the traditional Chinese culture blended with the modern civilization through the programming? What kinds of cultural elements should be selected so as to present the spirit and the essence of the Chinese culture to the world? This paper, through grasping the overall form and scrutinizing meticulously the typical elements in the performances,aims to explore the cultural mechanism included in the large-scale modern cultural activities on the one hand. On the other, it intends to reveal that China tries to demonstrate the achievements of its modernization drive through successfully hosting the Games which is taken as a vital part of modern project. More importantly, China which is in the period of social transformation uses the opening ceremony to demonstrate its cultural awareness, cultural strategies and cultural consultation in a globalized world.展开更多
This article explores the socio-economic changes that occurred in Muslim societies from the late 18^(th),19^(th) to the 20^(th) centuries and how these changes contributed to the reformation of Shari'a Law.The foc...This article explores the socio-economic changes that occurred in Muslim societies from the late 18^(th),19^(th) to the 20^(th) centuries and how these changes contributed to the reformation of Shari'a Law.The focus of this article will be on Omani society in the 20^(th) century but prior to 1970.The main question that I attempt to answer is how Oman has reacted to modern change in the 20^(th) century.I argue that although reform is an important phenomena in Islamic law,and many Muslim societies have experienced legal changes towards equality within the Shari'a Family Law,Oman has remained distant from such changes.展开更多
