Movement of stock price index is often influenced by many factors, ...Capital market is one of the drivers of the economy through the formation of capital investor excess as well as an indicator of a country＇s economy. Movement of stock price index is often influenced by many factors, derived from the company＇s performance, monetary factor, and changes in world oil prices. This study highlights the problem in world oil prices due to political turmoil in the Middle East. The samples are taken from the Jakarta Composite Stock Price Index （JCI）, oil prices, Indonesian inflation rate, Certificate of Bank Indonesia＇s （CBI） rate, and the reserve assets, during the period from January 2005 to December 2011 （84 months）. Using the data published by the Bank of Indonesia, reports of the Central Bureau of Statistics （Biro Pusat Statistik, BPS）, and other relevant sources, the data analyzed through the Eviews 7.1. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of oil prices, foreign stock price index, and monetary variables （inflation rate, CBI rate, country＇s foreign reserves, and others） toward the JCI analyzed through the error correction model （ECM）. Hypothesis testing with the F-test for the 95% confidence level indicates that the oil price, exchange rate （Indonesian Rupiah （IDR）/United States Dollar （USD））, CBI rate, foreign exchange reserves, the Dow Jones Index, and the Taiwan stock index, both simultaneously as well as partially have a significant influence on the JCI.展开更多

Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)has a low prevalence in the Global South,including Pakistan.While genetics and gut flora,influenced by diet and the environment,can contribute to this,we are exploring the possibility of...Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)has a low prevalence in the Global South,including Pakistan.While genetics and gut flora,influenced by diet and the environment,can contribute to this,we are exploring the possibility of underdiagnosis.Lack of facilities trained in IBD,scarcity of medications,limited health insurance for specialist referral and the current epidemic of abdominal tuberculosis could be the cause.The increasing diagnosis of IBD among Pakistani immigrants and colorectal carcinoma among the young population might be the result of this.Timely referrals by primary care physicians to gastroenterologists,along with the growing use of newer technologies such as abdominal ultrasound for diagnosis can help mitigate the challenge of low or late diagnosis of this chronic condition.展开更多

Global failures take other forms and are likely to be more severe in the future because of th...An expanding globalization causes global failures, similar to economy failures encountered in the national economic system. Global failures take other forms and are likely to be more severe in the future because of the entry in the world scene of leading countries that have distinctly different economic systems （for instance, China, India） from leading incumbents （US, EU）, and because the new competition （country cum system） is likely to be perceived by newcomers and incumbents as a zero sum game. It is crucial in such circumstances to have a design of world governance that can respond adequately to global failures. The G-20 is one such design, but this is handicapped by its narrow scope （i.e. GDP） and undemocratic composition （selection of individual countries and not regional representation, next to being inconsistent and out of date）. The paper formulates and applies an index of influence potential that combines population and GDP, and which is measurable at the region and country levels. The paper projects these applications for the near future, comes up with more representative participations by regions/countries in world governance and explores effects of the changing distribution of influence potential on global development and economic systems.展开更多
