The conflation of linguistic competencies with ideological and political educational paradigms presents unique opportunities and challenges for English language teaching(ELT)in our increasingly interconnected world.This research seeks to address the role of cross-cultural critical thinking within the landscape of English pedagogy,framed by the imperatives of ideological and political education.Employing a multi-method approach,including thematic content analysis and action research,the study proposes a pedagogical model designed to integrate transcultural discourse and ideologically reflective practices into the conventional ELT curriculum.This paper argues for a reimagined approach to teaching English that encourages students to engage with diverse cultural perspectives and develop a nuanced understanding of global issues.

A Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis of Lingnan Cultural Promotional Videos on Social Media

In recent years,more and more directors of culture and tourism have taken part in the promotion of local cultural tourism by cross-dressing,talent shows,and pushing their limits on self-media platforms.This study investigates short videos of Lingnan culture promoted by directors general and deputy directors general of the Culture,Radio,Television,Tourism,and Sports Bureau of counties and cities in Guangdong Province on social media by the method of multimodal critical discourse analysis.The analysis of 33 videos shows that Lingnan culture is a domineering and confident culture,historical culture,graceful and elegant culture,and vibrant and active culture.Domineering and confident culture is embedded in the utterances and behaviors of the directors general or deputy directors general in the video.Historical culture is realized through the conversation with historical figures through time travel.Graceful and elegant culture is constructed in the depiction of sceneries and the depiction of characters’manners.Vibrant and active culture is represented in the depiction of the characters’actional process and analytical process.

Teaching Intercultural Competence Using Critical Incident and Cultural Story Telling

Intercultural literacy is attached increasingly great importance in this interconnected world.People from diversified cultural backgrounds need to interact with each other for various purposes.Schools and organizations offer courses to improve people’s intercultural competence.This paper examines two effective techniques to teach intercultural competence in the classroom setting:critical incident activity and cultural story telling.These two strategies can help achieve the desired objectives of Michael Byram’s intercultural communication model.

Analyze The Turn of the Screw from Cultural Criticism

Henry James is one of the most important novelists and critics in British and American literature. He spent much of his youth in plenty of European countries where he studied with tutors and governesses. Since the 1980 s, more and more Western critics have started to use various critical theories such as political sociology, gender identity, and racial discrimination to study his novels.The author attempts to analyze The Turn of the Screw from cultural criticism. Cultural Criticism is not an independent theory. It is often interwoven with social, political, psychological, and historical contexts of a novel. The author first uses political sociology to analyze class division and power structure of the Victorian time. And then use social psychology to analyze the psyche of the governess and proves that it is the governess' sexual hysteria that leads to the fall of the two children.The author argues that Cultural Criticism seems to be a more suitable and effective way to analyze the story.

Critical Discourse Analysis of City Cultural Identity Construction—A Case Study of Video Xi tang

With the rapid development of science and technology,video has become a very important way to demonstrate the city itself.This paper,based on Fairclough's three-dimensional conception of discourse to the video of Xitang,analyzes the on-screen titles of this video to reveal the ideology behind it.Through the analysis,it points out that this video,while protecting Xitang's own unique traditional characteristics,it tries to cater for the needs not only Chinese people but also foreigners.To some extent,it tries to promote Xitang itself.

近10年国际社会与文化地理研究的发展及启示——基于《Social and Cultural Geography》论文的统计分析

世纪交替之际"批判"社会地理学和新文化地理学不断得到发展和壮大。在这样的背景下,2000年《Social and Cultural Geography》杂志应运而生。经过10多年的发展,目前该杂志已成为展示国际社会和文化地理学术研究成果的重要窗口之一。本文对《Social and Cultural Geography》2000—2010年刊发的516篇论文进行统计分析,从载文量变化、研究案例地分布和研究领域的关注度等方面分析其特征,在此基础上,对期刊设立的22个研究议题进行了内容分析,以期为国内社会和文化地理学者把握国际最新研究趋势,提升自身研究水平、拓展研究新领域,以及加强与国际研究的融合和促进自身发展等提供借鉴。

Raymond Williams is one of the representative figures of British cultural Marxism and British cultural research.His cultural research,especially mass culture research,focuses on literary criticism.Among them,drama criticism is one of Williams'most important forms of cultural criticism methodology.Williams'drama criticism is based on drama history criticism.Through the historical analysis of drama content and form as well as the synchronic analysis of modem drama in different historical periods,including the ongoing drama history,Williams proposed the notion of"structures of feeling"The emergence of this concept opened up the social critical dimension of Williams'drama criticism.Drama criticism has become a window for examining,analyzing,and grasping the current social emotional structure or social culture.Furthermore,by implanting tragic plots in the drama,a potential practical strategy of social and cultural revolution can be realized.

批判诗学的早期开端也许可以追溯到《介入偏离与阅读倾斜》,因为此文隐含着20世纪80年代的某种问题意识。而所谓介入,自然是来自于萨特。在“后理论”时代,当越来越多的作家、学者具有了某种“后知识分子”的特征时,把萨特的介入拿过来就更具有某种现实意义。至于批判诗学形成的原因,其一是现实层面,其二在学理层面。前者意味着要直面中国当下文学批评和文化批评的现状,进而尽可能解决其批判精神不断流失的问题。后者则涉及文化诗学,是对童庆炳先生文艺理论思想的批判性继承。受阿多诺、伽达默尔和巴赫金等人的理论启发,可以把“亦此亦彼”“二律背反”“间性思维”等看成是批判诗学的方法或路径。而既要向阿多诺学习,又要向萨特取经;既要有理论深度,又要能通俗易懂,大概是批判诗学的批评实践的基本构想和努力目标。

舞蹈创作和批评研究既包括“生命体”身体意识和时空关系的内部规律探讨,也要阐释舞蹈与人类其他社会实践的外部规律联系,内外部结合的方法论很有意义。舞蹈分析与动作分析并非相同概念。舞蹈创作和研究从业者除了提升动作分析理论,还应密切关注新的编舞走向和跨学科的舞蹈研究趋势。20世纪八九十年代以来,西方舞蹈学者的舞蹈分析框架,融入了文化研究,揭示出仅作动作分析或内部研究的局限性;中国舞蹈学者的元素分析、形态分析也与舞蹈文化密切相关。在全球在地化和全媒体时代,作为一种方法论,舞蹈艺术的“审美文化观”将舞蹈创作到批评视为审美文化活动,承袭了古今中西文化汇通的中国美学、文学、理论界和舞蹈学的相关研究,自律论、他律论与通律论相辅相成,重视具体的真实的人本体,一方面强调侧重内部研究的“跨媒介性”视角,另一方面也倡导将内外部打通的“跨文化”观,尝试既在审美中看舞蹈文化,也在文化中看舞蹈审美,是一种具有“中国式现代化”路径的文艺观和方法论。“点线面体”充分融合的审美文化四面体图式,基于艾布拉姆斯“四要素”三角和格里斯沃尔德“文化菱形”理论基础,融入拉班动作分析四面体思路,并与中国人文社科学术界倡导多年的“审美文化”研究相通。

技术环境的变化带来广告叙事的新动向,社交媒体成为汽车广告的营销新阵地。整合多模态批评话语分析理论与叙事话语分析理论,建立多模态广告话语叙事分析框架,以社交媒体上的传统汽车广告和新能源汽车广告为语料,对比其叙事话语,聚焦能源作为话语主题的表达,审视其背后的汽车消费文化。研究发现,新能源汽车广告以互文式叙事机制,呈现了以汽车消费获得美好生活和精英身份的故事,其底层叙事逻辑仍与传统汽车广告一致:欲望驱动的身份消费实践。新能源汽车广告叙事中的“能源”隐身于营销属性之下,成为象征性的商业符号。在消费主义意志主导下,广告将新能源汽车建构为理想生活和精英身份的象征,鼓吹汽车消费的身份定义和自我表达作用。广告塑造的汽车消费文化实质上已与中国新时代能源发展规划脱节。
