19th-century scientific breakthroughs and developments exerted huge influence upon Thomas Hardy’s literary work,among which Darwinian discourses as well as issues of heredity and degeneration have attracted considera...19th-century scientific breakthroughs and developments exerted huge influence upon Thomas Hardy’s literary work,among which Darwinian discourses as well as issues of heredity and degeneration have attracted considerable critical attention.These scientific discourses can find their literary echoes in Hardy’s novels.Hardy’s characters are trapped by biological determinism and are therefore deprived of freewill,a devastating element which contributes to Hardy’s tragic vision.In Hardy’s early novels,Darwinism and other scientific issues are dealt with in a discursive manner,as is the case in A Pair of Blue Eyes;it is only in his late novels,especially in Tess of the d’Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure,that Hardy finally succeeds in incorporating Darwinian and hereditary discourses into his literary and philosophical conception and design.Thus to use a Darwinian term,this paper investigates the evolutionary process in which Hardy grows gradually adept in his artistic attempt to fuse the contemporary scientific discourses with his literary imagination,as well as in using scientific issues to mediate between authorial intention and critical expectation.展开更多

Quantum decoherence theory points out that the inevitable interaction with environment is a sink carrying away quantum coherence, which is responsible for the suppression of quantum superposition in open quantum system.Recently, quantum Darwinism theory further extends the role of environment, serving as communication channel, to explain the classical objectivity emerging in quantum measurement process. Here, we used a six-photon quantum simulator to investigate classical and quantum information proliferation in quantum Darwinism process. In the simulation, many environmental photons are scattered from an observed quantum system and they are collected and used to infer the system's state. We observed redundancy of system's classical information and suppression of quantum correlation in the fragments of environmental photons. Our results experimentally show that the classical objectivity of quantum system can be established through quantum Darwinism mechanism.展开更多
For over thirty years I have been researching the origins of language by means of an original and innovative metod. If it consists of considering oral articulation, which produce phonetic sounds as informative gesture...For over thirty years I have been researching the origins of language by means of an original and innovative metod. If it consists of considering oral articulation, which produce phonetic sounds as informative gestures and expressions of a visible-expressive code, that precedes the use of phonetic codes. The meaning expressed through each of these articulate-oral gestures was identified through research-responses by two select sample groups of psychotic subjects, chosen because of their greater permeable accessibility to the collective unconscious. In this sense the application of phonetic sounds, that is ＂words＂, is no more than representative or substitutes of the use of pre-articulate oral-facial gestures, used by pre-sapiens to express their informative intentions. Using this method I have published three books, which analyzed precisely and systematically the inter-relationships between consonants in words of Info-european origin--that is the roots of these words--discovering that words sharing common root-consonants do indeed express part or all of their meaning in correspondence with the original meanings of their gestural archetype. The projection into objects of these pre-articulate gestural meanings denotes them by means of mediators＇ metaphors and analogies, this is appearing to be the fundamental reason for the variety of languages, since diverse peoples will use different psychic Freudian puns and methaphors, for the projection to similar object. I have examined over twenty languages, in relation to this generalized cultural code model, founded on biological reactivity to conditions in reality to advantage given its extensive informative use.展开更多
