In middleschool English teaching, grammar instruction has always been an important and challenging aspect.Due to the strong influence of grammar explanation in Chinese, learning English grammar may be affected by negative transfer from their native language, which could pose certain obstacles to English acquisition.Self-efficacy,as a major emotional factor influencing learners'internal regulation strategies, has attracted wide attention from researchers both domestically and internationally for its impact on learning performance.High self-efficacy helps learners develop a more positive mindset towards learning, thereby contributing to improved learning performance. Therefore, this study focuses on investigating the relationship between grammatical self-efficacy and learning performance of English grammar among middle school students. This research contributes to a complementary understanding of grammatical self-efficacy among educators, enhancing their teaching skills, and effectively guiding students to learn English grammar with a more positive and healthy mindset, presenting a future grammar instruction in middle school English teaching. 展开更多

The triptych (Smartphones, Video games, adolescents) has imposed itself on the collective consciousness in the form of questioning to the point of becoming a social phenomenon. It thus raises concerns about the uses that adolescents make of it and the effects on their academic performance, which we proposed to study among middle school students from the Dakar academy inspection. Where appropriate, we used mixed methods with the collection techniques of questionnaire survey, semi-structured interviews respectively with middle school students, adults (parents, supervisors, teachers, etc.), participant observation and literature review. Concretely, before accessibility to video games, the middle school students were more idle and well-behaved, watched a lot of TV, played with their brothers and sisters or did household chores. The majority of young people had good, very good or excellent conduct and their averages were fair, fairly good or good. With access to a diverse digital environment, middle school students have passionately turned to video games. As a result, their learning time, concentration and submission to parental injunctions have declined significantly. This situation negatively affected their academic performance and encouraged bad behavior. 展开更多

Its prevalence and behavioural characteristics may vary according to regional and cultural differences. Investigation of NSSI locations and diagnosis of adolescents with NSSI are relatively lacking in China. Aims The study objective was to determine the prevalence and features of NSSI among middle school students in Shanghai. Methods The participants were from grade 6 to 8 selected from three junior schools in Jing’an District. Consenting students completed the Ottawa Self-Injury Inventory to determine the prevalence and characteristics of NSSI. Those who indicated NSSI within the past month were administered the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescents to assess for emotional disorders. Result The result shows 510 participants (21.7%;mean age 13.51 (0.97) years old;56.7% female) reported at least one instance of NSSI during the previous 12 months. NSSI was significantly more common in girls than boys (24.9% vs 18.5%;χ^2=14.03, p=0.00). Commonly reported reasons for NSSI were for internal and external emotion regulation (87.9%, 82.3%) and social influence (57.8%). Anxiety disorders were the most common (28.9%) disorder associated with NSSI. Conclusion The rate of NSSI of middle school students in Shanghai inner bound is similar to those reported in North American and European youth. It is essential that school mental health professionals are aware of how to manage NSSI within the school setting. 展开更多

Methods This is a school-based intervention study. Four junior middle schools and two senior middle schools in Xuhui District, Shanghai, were selected as study sites involving parents, two junior middle schools and one senior middle school as the intervention group and others as control group. The intervention group was provided with both school and family education which contained giving lectures, distributing leaflets, organizing group discussions and parent-adolescent communicating activities to parents. Data were collected through anonymous and self-administered questionnaires before and after one-year intervention to evaluate the effect of the intervention. Results The average score of parents in the intervention group was higher than that in the control group after intervention. Particularly, the mean score of AIDS knowledge in the intervention group was increased by 10.5, which was more than that of control group (5.3). The intervention increased the parents' intention to family sex education. The percentage of parents in the intervention group approving "sex education should be provided by parents" had increased, much higher than that in the control group. Intervention also promoted parent-adolescent communication about sex. The percentage of parents reporting "they actively talked with their children about sex or their teens asked them questions related to sex" had increased, much higher than that in the control group. Conclusion Family-school combined sex education significantly increased sexual knowledge and sex education intention of parents, promoted the parent-adolescent communication about sex as well. 展开更多

Programming teaching plays an important role in improving students’computational thinking and practice. However, due to the fact that programming has not been included in the entrance examination, the rate of having programming lessons in primary and secondary schools is low.At present, there is still a lack of empirical research on how programming affects the performance of other subjects. This paper studies the influence of programming on students’mathematics achievement for the students of an experimental middle school. The results show that programming has a significant impact on students’math scores, and the students who had not learned code were more likely to show a significant decline in math scores. In addition, learning programming makes it easier for middle-grade students to improve their math scores. 展开更多

In order to ensure the existence of the gender and age differences of middle school students' shame, 1258 Shanghai middle school students are surveyed with the help of the Middle school students' shame measurement scale with the combination of delaminating and random sampling. The results of questionnaire show that there are significant gender differences in middle school students' shame and the average scores of male students' shame are higher than those of female students. Besides, there does exist significant age differences in middle school students' shame, but it is not simple linear relationship between the feeling of shame and ages. The feeling of shame reaches maximum at the age of 14 and intervention should be given at this age, which young students feel sensitive most. It is suggested that collective remission of the shame should be offered to middle school students with the methods such as physical exercises, persuasion etc. 展开更多

To know well the current situation of the physical health promotion plan implementation in Jinan' s middle school students, 240 students and 30 P.E. teachers in Jinan' s Shungeng Middle School, Yuying Middle School, Yuxian Middle School, Qixian Middle School, and Shi Liu Li He Middle School were chosen as the research objects. The cognition of these students and teachers on physical health, how to allocate the spare time, how to look upon the relationship between physical exercise and learning, and the physical exercises involved by the students, the grounds for the exercises, the frequency of taking physical exercises, the forms of physical exercises, and the attitude toward physical exercises were investigated and analyzed using questionnaire survey, literature materials, interview, and mathematical statistics research methods. The results showed that most students were very concerned about their own health and willing to build up their body by taking physical exercises and activities, aiming to promote the life and learning quality and physical health; the physical exercise activities involved by the middle school students were various and chosen by students differently. However, some students did not have enough time to take part in physical exercises because of the effect of the factors such as the network. Therefore, the physical health of some students was worrying. The role of school physical education was not fully played. Some schools gave top priority to the enrollment rate, so that P.E. courses were not offered enough, the contents were boring, the class hours of P.E. courses were occupied by literal arts courses, games were limited, and extracurricular team activities were few. Middle school students' awareness of physical exercises was not enough; the physical education system from schools was not well- improved; the physical educational plan was unreasonable, so that the students' awareness of physical exercises was not cultivated well. 展开更多
