Task Offloading Based on Vehicular Edge Computing for Autonomous Platooning

Autonomous platooning technology is regarded as one of the promising technologies for the future and the research is conducted actively.The autonomous platooning task generally requires highly complex computations so it is difficult to process only with the vehicle’s processing units.To solve this problem,there are many studies on task offloading technique which transfers complex tasks to their neighboring vehicles or computation nodes.However,the existing task offloading techniques which mainly use learning-based algorithms are difficult to respond to the real-time changing road environment due to their complexity.They are also challenging to process computation tasks within 100 ms which is the time limit for driving safety.In this paper,we propose a novel offloading scheme that can support autonomous platooning tasks being processed within the limit and ensure driving safety.The proposed scheme can handle computation tasks by considering the communication bandwidth,delay,and amount of computation.We also conduct simulations in the highway environment to evaluate the existing scheme and the proposed scheme.The result shows that our proposed scheme improves the utilization of nearby computing nodes,and the offloading tasks can be processed within the time for driving safety. 展开更多

A natural algal complex is prepared from the brown alga Undaria pinnatifida rich in fucoidan and the red calcareous algal Corallina officinalis. The effect of the algal complex was demonstrated by transcriptomic analysis on normal human fibroblasts through the DNA chip technology from AFFYMETRIX, combined with the following in vitro Elisa test and clinical studies. Clinical studies have been performed with a basic cream containing complex versus placebo on 2 groups of 30 Caucasian women for a period of 28 days. In the present study, the natural algal complex works on the crow’s feet, eye bags, and dark cycle through multiple ways of action, including enhancing natural immune responses, regulating the inflammatory and immunity process, and promoting the extracellular matrix synthesis. As the natural algal complex has excellent improvement on the eye circumference, we have applied it to mageline firming anti-wrinkle eye cream for further research. 展开更多

In this paper,we aim to unlock the potential of intelligent reflecting surfaces(IRSs)in cognitive internet of things(loT).Considering that the secondary IoT devices send messages to the secondary access point(SAP)by sharing the spectrum with the primary network,the interference is introduced by the IoT devices to the primary access point(PAP)which profits from the IoT devices by pricing the interference power charged by them.A practical path loss model is adopted such that the IRSs deployed between the IoT devices and SAP serve as diffuse scatterers,but each reflected signal can be aligned with its own desired direction.Moreover,two transmission policies of the secondary network are investigated without/with a successive interference cancellation(SIC)technique.The signal-to-interference plus noise ratio(SINR)balancing is considered to overcome the nearfar effect of the IoT devices so as to allocate the resource fairly among them.We propose a Stackelberg game strategy to characterize the interaction between primary and secondary networks.For the proposed game,the Stackelberg equilibrium is analytically derived to optimally obtain the closed-form solution of the power allocation and interference pricing.Numerical results are demonstrated to validate the performance of the theoretical derivations. 展开更多

Recently,the importance of vehicle safety supporting system has been highlighted as autonomous driving and platooning has attracted the researchers.To ensure driving safety,each vehicle must broadcast a basic safety message(BSM)every 100 ms.However,stable BSM exchange is difficult because of the changing environment and limited bandwidth of vehicular wireless communication.The increasing number of vehicles on the road increases the competition to access wireless networks for BSM exchange;this increases the packet collision rate.An increased packet collision rate impairs the transmission and reception of BSM information,which can easily cause a traffic accident.We propose a solution,the vehicular safety support system(V3S),which exchanges BSMs reliably even when many vehicles are on the road.The V3S uses a clustering scheme to decrease network traffic by reducing the amount of data exchanged between a vehicle and the roadside unit(RSU).In addition,the V3S reduces the collision rate of wireless network packets by broadcasting the vehicle’s BSM in an allocated timeslot using the time division multiple access(TDMA)MAC protocol.The V3S also deals with insufficient bandwidth for dedicated short-range communications(DSRC)by changing DSRC channels according to traffic flow.In evaluating the packet error rate for stable BSM packet delivery,the V3S demonstrates an excellent packet error rate of less than 1%,compared to the 802.11p with its packet error rate of 82%. 展开更多

The study proposes an improved Harris hawks optimization(IHHO) algorithm by integrating the standard Harris hawks optimization(HHO) algorithm and mutation-based search mechanism for developing a high-performance machine learning solution for predicting soil compression index. HHO is a newly introduced meta-heuristic optimization algorithm(MOA) used to solve continuous search problems.Compared to the original HHO, the proposed IHHO can evade trapping in local optima, which in turn raises the search capabilities and enhances the search mechanism relying on mutation. Subsequently, a novel meta-heuristic-based soft computing technique called ELM-IHHO was established by integrating IHHO and extreme learning machine(ELM) to estimate soil compression index. A sum of 688 consolidation test data was collected for this purpose from an ongoing dedicated freight corridor railway project. To evaluate the generalization capability of the proposed ELM-IHHO model, a detailed comparison between ELM-IHHO and other well-established MOAs, such as particle swarm optimization,genetic algorithm, and biogeography-based optimization integrated with ELM, was performed. Based on the outcomes, the ELM-IHHO model exhibits superior performance over the other MOAs in predicting soil compression index. 展开更多

Peroral cholangioscopy can be performed by using a dedicated cholangioscope that is advanced through the accessory channel of a duodenoscope, or by direct insertion of a small-diameter endoscope into the bile duct. Direct peroral cholangioscopy refers to insertion of an ultraslim endoscope directly into the bile duct for visualization of the biliary mucosa and lumen. This approach provides a valuable and economic solution for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in the biliary tree. Compared to ductoscopy using a dedicated cholangioscope, the direct approach has several advantages and disadvantages. In this editorial, I discuss the advantages, disadvantages, and possible future developments pertaining to direct peroral cholangioscopy. 展开更多

Product storage policy, single picking volume and picking routing are the three factors of vital importance that affect the efficiency of a crane to pick goods in automated storage and retrieval systems(AS/RS). Comparative experiments on picking efficiency were conducted targeting picking operation with order of 1 to 20. Based on dedicated and random storage policies, 4 picking methods of patching-based, S-type, return-type and optimized-type routes were used and compared in the experiments. The results show that either the dedicated policy or the random policy was applied, crane worked most efficiently with optimizedtype route, followed by S-type path, patching-based path, and return-type path. When the number of orders in a single picking is larger(more than 5), the random storage policy is preferable to the dedicated policy. 展开更多

This paper presents a halfway signaling exchange shared path protection(HSE-SPP)on the backup route for a fast connection recovery strategy.In the proposed HSE-SPP,a pre-assigned intermediate node on the backup route is chosen for signaling exchange.When connection fails,source and destination nodes simultaneously generate backup connection setup messages to the pre-assigned intermediate node on the reserved backup route.At the intermediate node,signaling process occurs,and acknowledgment is generated for data transmission to the respective end nodes.Consequently,connection recovery time by applying HSE-SPP becomes very low.Simulations are performed for network parameters and results are verified with existing strategies.The average recovery time(RT),bandwidth blocking probability(BBP),bandwidth provisioning ratio(BPR),and resource overbuild(RO)ratio of HSE-SPP for ARPANET is 13.54 ms,0.18,3.02,0.55,and for dedicated path protection(DPP)are 13.20 ms,0.56,6.30,3.75 and for shared path protection(SPP)22.19 ms,0.22,3.23,0.70 respectively.Similarly,average RT,BBP,BPR and RO of HSE-SPP for COST239 are8.33 ms,0.04,1.64,0.26,and for DPP 4.23,0.47,3.50,2.04,and for SPP 11.81,0.08,1.66,0.27 respectively.Hence,results of the proposed strategy are better in terms of RT,BBP,BPR,and RO ratio. 展开更多

This paper proposes a solution to the open vehicle routing problem with time windows(OVRPTW)considering third-party logistics(3PL).For the typical OVRPTW problem,most researchers consider time windows,capacity,routing limitations,vehicle destination,etc.Most researchers who previously investigated this problem assumed the vehicle would not return to the depot,but did not consider its final destination.However,by considering 3PL in the B2B e-commerce,the vehicle is required back to the nearest 3PL location with available space.This paper formulates the problem as a mixed integer linear programming(MILP)model with the objective of minimizing the total travel distance.A coordinate representation particle swarm optimization(CRPSO)algorithm is developed to obtain the best delivery sequencing and the capacity of each vehicle.Results of the computational study show that the proposed method provides solution within a reasonable amount of time.Finally,the result compared to PSO also indicates that the CRPSO is effective. 展开更多

Objective:To systematically evaluate the spectrum of models providing dedicated resources for emergency urological patients(EUPs).Methods:A search of Cochrane,Embase,Medline and grey literature from January 1,2000 to March 26,2019 was performed using methods pre-published on PROSPERO.Reporting followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and meta-analysis guidelines.Eligible studies were articles or abstracts published in English describing dedicated models of care for EUPs,which reported at least one secondary outcome.Studies were excluded if they examined pathways dedicated only to single presentations,such as torsion,or outpatient solutions,such as rapid access clinics.The primary outcome was the spectrum of models.Secondary outcomes were time-to-theatre,length of stay,complications and cost.Results:Seven studies were identified,totalling 487 patients.Six studies were conference abstracts,while one study was of full-text length but published in grey literature.Four distinct models were described.These included consultant urologists allocated solely to the care of EUPs(“Acute Urological Unit”)or dedicated registrars or operating theatres(“Hybrid structures”).In some services,EUPs bypassed emergency department assessment and were referred directly to urology(“Urological Assessment Unit”)or were managed by other dedicated means.Allocating services to EUPs was associated with reduced time-to-theatre,length of stay and hospital cost,and improved supervision of junior medical staff.Conclusion:Multiple dedicated models of care exist for EUPs.Low-level evidence suggests these may improve outcomes for patients,staff and hospitals.Higher quality studies are required to explore patient outcomes and minimum requirements to establish these models. 展开更多

Combined with the characteristics of VLIW processor and matrix multiplication of symmetric cipher algorithms, this paper extracted the reconfigurable elements and analyzed the principle of matrix multiplication, then designed the reconfigurable architecture of matrix multiplication of VLIW processor further, at last we put forward single instructions for matrix multiplication between 4×1 and 4×4 matrix or two 4×4 matrix over GF(2~8), through the instructions extension, the instructions could support larger dimension operations. The experiment shows that the instructions we designed supports different dimensions matrix multiplication and improves the processing speed of multiplication greatly. 展开更多
