It has long been obtained as a byproduct from some sulfide-rich deposits andcoal beds. The Lincang germanium deposit discovered in recent years in China can be considered as an independent germanium deposit of superlarge reserves. At present, about 800 t of germanium reserves havebeen exploited, the most part of which is concentrated in the first cycle of coal at the bottom of the basindeveloped on a granite basement, while the upper three coal cycles are basically barren. Bodies of Gemineralization exhibit a zonal pattern trending NNW, in consistence with the distribution of the siliceousrocks in the first coal cycle.
