Base cation loads are rarely considered in forest gap edge canopies, but they can play critical roles in capturing or buffering atmospheric deposition in forests with frequent gap disturbances, such as subalpine forests. We selected an expanded gap edge canopy and a closed canopy in a subalpine natural forest on the eastern Tibetan Plateau. The throughfall deposition and canopy exchange processes of common base cations(K^(+),Ca^(2+),Na^(+),and Mg^(2+))were continuously studied over two years. The results showed that the enrichment ratio and fluxes had lower levels of base cations in the gap-edge canopy than in the closed canopy, which indicated that base cations were concentrated more in the closed canopy than in the gap-edge canopy.Although Ca^(2+)in the gap-edge canopy showed a higher net throughfall flux, the annual net throughfall fluxes of K^(+),Na^(+) and Mg^(2+) within the gap-edge canopy were 1.83,6.75 and 2.95 times lower than those in the closed canopy, respectively. Moreover, dry deposition fluxes of base cations significantly decreased in the gap edge canopy compared to those in the closed canopy, and the decreasing tendency was more significant during the snowy season than during the rainy season.Overall, these results suggest that the amount of base cations in subalpine natural forest ecosystems may be overestimated when the throughfall deposition of ions in gap edge canopies is ignored. 展开更多

Aqueous precipitation and deposition-precipitation method were used to prepare CeO2 supports and Au/CeO2 catalysts, respectively. The effect of preparation condition of support on the catalyst activity was investigated. The catalytic combustion of HCHO was considered as the probe reaction for comparing the catalyst activity. The BET, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and reduction (TPR) were carried out to analyze the influence factor on the catalysts activity. The results showed that the addition of dispersant and use of microwave in the support preparation procedure could be beneficial for enhancing the interaction of supports and gold species and thus improved the catalytic activity. The total conversion temperature for HCHO was 146 ℃ over AC400. With the modification during supports preparation process, the catalytic activity increased with total conversion temperature decreasing to 98 ℃. The results of XPS indicated that Au^0 and Au^+1 species coexisted in these catalysts and the activity of catalyst correlated with Au^+1/Au^0 ratio. Temperature-programmed reduction results demonstrated that the reduction peak appeared between 100-170 ℃ with the inducing of gold. The dependence of activity on the reduction peak temperature implied that ionic gold was catalytic activity component for HCHO oxidation. 展开更多

The effect of the amount of precipitant ammonia on the Cu0/Cu+ratio of Cu/Si O2 prepared by the deposition–precipitation method is investigated. Species at different preparation stages, resulted from the amount of ammonia used, are identified by the XRD and FTIR techniques. Chrysocolla together with either copper nitrate hydroxide or copper hydroxide coexist in the uncalcined catalysts. Upon calcination, the latter two species are converted to Cu O particles while chrysocolla remains. Following reduction, Cu O is transformed to metallic Cu and chrysocolla is converted to Cu2 O. The value of Cu0/Cu+ratio can be evaluated using the peak areas in their TPR profiles. Hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate(DMO) to ethylene glycol(EG) shows that the selectivity of EG depends on the Cu0/Cu+ratio. Catalyst prepared with the addition of ammonia solution at n(NH3)/n(Cu2+) = 0.9 for precipitation–deposition gains a more suitable Cu0/Cu+ratio upon reduction and thus has a higher selectivity for EG. 展开更多

An empirical simulation method to simulate the possible position of shallow rainfall-induced landslides in China has been developed. This study shows that such a simulation may be operated in real-time to highlight those areas that are highly prone to rainfall-induced landslides on the basis of the landslide susceptibility index and the rainfall intensity-duration(I-D) thresholds.First, the study on landslide susceptibility in China is introduced. The entire territory has been classified into five categories, among which high-susceptibility regions(Zone 4-'High' and 5-'Very high') account for 4.15%of the total extension of China.Second, rainfall is considered as an external triggering factor that may induce landslide initiation.Real-time satellite-based TMPA3B42 products may provide real rainfall spatial and temporal patterns, which may be used to derive rainfall duration time and intensity.By using a historical record of 60 significant past landslides, the rainfall I-D equation has been calibrated. The rainfall duration time that may trigger a landslide has resulted between 3 hours and 45 hours. The combination of these two aspects can be exploited to simulate the spatiotemporal distribution of rainfall-induced landslide hazards when rainfall events exceed the rainfall I-D thresholds, where the susceptibility category is 'high' or 'very high'.This study shows a useful tool to be part of a systematic landslide simulation methodology, potentially providing useful information for a theoretical basis and practical guide for landslide prediction and mitigation throughout China. 展开更多
