Renewal Design of Marketplace Culture Spaces in Traditional Blocks Based on Catalyst Theory: A Case Study of Pengzhen Town in Shuangliu District of Chengdu

In this study, three kinds of spaces with different marketplace atmospheres, namely, the tea-drinking space, the commercial space and the courtyard space, are created with the aid of the marketplace culture characteristics of the local blocks in Pengzhen Town and the catalyst theory, so as to achieve the purpose of activating the traditional blocks in Pengzhen Town. The design takes the marketplace culture as the entry point and the most vigorous points as the catalyst points to create a living space with strong marketplace flavor, thereby activating the economic and social activities of the traditional block and promotes the sustainable renewal of the cultural space.

Study on the Involvement of Chinese Traditional Culture in College Graphic Design Teaching

By analyzing the courses of graphic design major, the author points out that it is necessary to put Chinese traditional culture into courses of graphic design, which can open up students＇ design ideas, optimize their design styles and awareness, as well as improve their moral cultivation. Study on the Application of Mongolian Cultural Elements in Mascot Design

The Mongolian culture is part of China's traditional culture.It is a prairie culture of fusion Mongolian wisdom for nearly a thousand years.This article briefly introduces the basic concepts of mascots and Mongolian cultural elements,and carries out a design practice by using the horse culture,color matching,boke clothing in the Mongolian cultural elements.The white horse mascot was designed by combining with national culture.It can be found that Mongolian traditional culture is a huge resource treasure house for mascot design through design practice,and the design of mascot is the characteristic of the era that inherits the development of Mongolian culture.The integration of Mongolian culture and mascot design can achieve mutual benefit.

When the Butter Got Done： The Resilience of Indigenous Design Processes During Dictatorial Regime in Uganda Between 1971-1978 and Their Continued Use in Kiruhura District in S.W. Uganda

Although African continent and Uganda in particular experienced the influence of the western economies which came with exploration, missionary work, and colonialism, and which put the indigenous design creativity to sleep, communities have continued to show resilience in utilizing indigenous design processes whenever there is a shift in the cosmetic African-West relationship. This paper describes and assesses how indigenous processes become fundamental and sustained a fragile economy of Uganda after the military takeover of government by Idi Amin in 1971. It looks at how Ugandan artisans employed their long forgotten skills in designing processes that allowed communities to function. For example artisans made spare parts for the abandoned factories, made soap, and processed salt for consumption. The paper takes a pro-vocal approach and traces how this worked, how it is still working even when the country is presumably peaceful with the majority of the population engaged in agriculture production. The author carried out an ethnographic study on 90 participants in Kiruhura district in S.W. Uganda to establish how families integrate indigenous design processes in their daily activities. The author investigated why families continue to use indigenous material cultural items such as carvings, pottery, baskets, and iron work yet government policy emphases commercial agriculture. Results indicate that most families still use indigenous design processes in agriculture, housing, and treatment because of the superficial and unstructured ability by most families to use western made technologies, and that many of them do not have the necessary resources to acquire the modern technology. Results further indicate that families have a special attachment to indigenous materials which gives them an identity and ownership and that some items work better than the Western designed products. The paper concludes that those indigenous design processes are fundamentally good opportunities for entrepreneur actions that could be viable household enterprises. In addition to improving household incomes, the author theorize that re-engaging indigenous design processes, may facilitate ownership, resilience, and creativity of indigenous African creativity and design processes that could lead to sustainable development.

The human social development saw the formation of five unique civilizations,with the latter forming their own distinctive cultures.China’s traditional culture is its most fundamental ideological weapon for solving problems.The Chinese are good at comprehensive thinking,dialectical thinking,and systematic analysis.These ideological weapons can solve the problems of formal science and technology and create scientific and technological achievements on par with global advanced scale.Ancient China is filled with original scientific and technological achievements,which strongly prove ancient China’s possession of its own science and technology different from that of Western Renaissance.Therefore,a comprehensive understanding of science,technology,experience,and intuition is necessary.The long-held superstition regarding the West,the lack of confidence,self-denial,blind imitation of ideas,and shackles must be thrown away.Only then can we take the road toward an authentic Chinese creative design as we learn from others.

Overall Image Design of Small Townships in Guangxi

Since the 21st century, the construction of small towns in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been accelerated obviously and has already taken shape, but there are still some problems such as old towns not being well protected, new towns constructed in unified style, regional culture not being excavated and town features without characteristics. Thus, this paper analyzed some actual cases in Guangxi which are successful in designing the overall image of small towns, including Cendou Xincun, Xing'an County and Yangshuo Dongling, found that all constructions show rich elements of traditional houses, characteristics of local houses and distinctive cultures of folk houses, and concluded that tradition was the source to construct the features of small towns, innovation was the basis to develop small towns and culture was the core to sublimate the features of small towns. It was considered that traditional architectures could only be integrated with modern architectures by fully excavating cultural characteristics of regional architectures, combining with regional tourism industry and motivating local people to participate in reconstruction, to enhance local styles and national features, and create a beautiful, comfortable and harmonious living environment, so the overall regional styles and features of small towns can be represented and proceeded, comprehensive competitiveness and strong vitality can be given to those towns.

Research on Teaching Method of Packaging Design Course Based on Chinese Style

The teaching of Packaging Design started late in China,but develops fast.After experiencing the changes of economy,politics and culture,it has entered a new era of self-publicity.The Chinese style has come out quietly with a strong momentum.The contents of packaging design in the new era pay more attention to the spiritual level,and become a bridge between the society and people,forming an aesthetics concept with the spirit of the Chinese people.Based on the application of Chinese style in the course of Packaging Design,this paper discusses the characteristics of Packaging Design with Chinese style and the problems of traditional Packaging Design,and puts forward how to better apply Chinese elements in Packaging Design.

Modern Translation of Classical Gardens:Landscape Design Conception and Strategy of Gaobeidian Train New Town in Longhu

This study introduced the design process and main contents of a project called Gaobeidian Train New Town in Longhu,which won the excellence award in the 55th international competition in 2018 hosted by International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).In view of the separation of traditional cultural heritage and modern society and the disappearance of traditional culture,this study put forward the design concept and strategy of connecting traditional culture and modern landscape with Ziquan Palace as the design prototype by means of elastic landscape design,so as to continue the gene of traditional culture and arouse people’s awareness of respecting and protecting traditional culture.

Comparison Research on the Chinese Traditional Art Style and Western Country＇s Abstract Art Style： A Theoretical Review

In this paper, we conduct literature review and research on the Chinese traditional art style and western country＇ s abstract art style. Modernism art forms from concrete to abstract is a process of constant evolution, it is to find new pictures to present, to get rid of the bondage of traditional art concept to go on process. Any forward art could not avoid broke away from the traditional thinking, in the process of the old ideas and new concepts of conflict is inevitable. Therefore, corresponding research is urgent needed. The comparison result proves the intuition that both traditional Chinese culture and western culture based art design have their own spark points.
