We describe the development and validation of the Daily Diary of Fatigue Symptoms—Fibromyalgia (DFS-Fibro), a 24-hour recall, patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure of fatigue in FM that is administered electronically (ePRO). Methods: There were 3 phases of work: 1) item generation based on concept elicitation interviews with FM patients, with clinical relevance confirmed by expert clinician review;2) pilot testing/cognitive debriefing interviews with FM patients;and 3) psychometric validation using data from a methodology study with 145 FM patients. The measure was finalised based on both qualitative and quantitative findings. Results: Twenty-three items were generated in phase 1, some minor revisions were made following the pilot testing and cognitive debriefing (phase 2) but none were deleted. All patients found the measure easy to understand and use. Item reduction was conducted taking into account both the initial psychometric data and the earlier qualitative research, resulting in a final 5 item measure of the “symptom” of fatigue. The 5-item DFS-Fibro had very high internal consistency (alpha = 0.99), and strong test-re-test reliability (r > 0.84), convergent validity and known-groups validity. Conclusion: The DFS-Fibro has strong psychometric properties and strong face and content validity for the measurement of fatigue in FM.展开更多

Inspired by his own experiences of growing up, award-winning author Sherman Alexie chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one unlucky boy trying to rise above the life everyone expects him to live. As a bildungsroman, the novel honestly depicts the real life in reservation as well as protagonist Arnold's personal development in misfortune. The novel addresses various themes. Through close reading of the novel and with the help of some theories from postcolonial criticism, the present paper tries to analyze the bleak reality of reservation life and protagonist Arnold's struggle for social success, thus interpreting the themes of othering, alienation, unhomeliness, double consciousness, and hope presented in the novel展开更多

OCR (optical character recognition) is the conversion of images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text. Once we have the text machine-encoded we can further use it in machine processes, like translation, or extracted, meaning text-to-speech transformed, helping people in simple everyday tasks. Users of the application will be able to enter other completely different costs grouped into categories and other charges. Car Log application quickly and easily can visualize, edit and add different costs for a ear. It also supports the ability to add multiple profiles, by entering data for all ears in a single family, for example, or a small business. The test results are positive thus we intend to further develop a cloud ready application.展开更多

As acknowledged by Lu Xun himself and argued by most scholars, this short stoW was influenced by Gogol's homonymic short stow, but has developed more profound melancholy and indignation. However, as my paper demonstrates, this perspective neglects the role of Japan as an intermediary in the transculturation of madness. First, Lu Xun's initial encounter with Gogol's Diary of A Madman was through his reading of Futabatei Shimei's translation in the Japanese magazine Ky6mi. Second, the framed narrative and contrasting styles of Lu Xun's short stow, which are not features of Gogol's, might also be due to the inspiration from the Japanese genbun itchi movement in the Meiji period. Third, and most importantly, cannibalism, a major theme in Lu Xun's Diary of A Madman, was arguably shaped by the heated discussion in Japan on national character and cannibalism. My paper will trace the double origin of the depiction of madness and cannibalism in Lu Xun's work and illustrate the importance of the role of Japan in the transculturation of the stow of a madman.展开更多
