In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the development of politics, economy and culture, the development of health maintenance of traditional Chinese medicine entered a heyday.Food therapy is an important part of the health theory of traditional Chinese medicine. In the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, you can see the record of food therapy everywhere. It can be said that food therapy of traditional Chinese medicine develops together with traditional Chinese medicine. As a treasure in the treasure-house of Chinese medicine, food therapy has a long history and rich practice.Based on the current research, further research on relevant theories remains to be carried out.Focusing on the historical period of Ming and Qing dynasties, this paper takes the works related to food, nutrition and therapy(including general works and monographs on diet),the health thoughts and practice characteristics of representative health practitioners as the research perspective, and sorts out the above research contents in the past 20 years, analyzes the research overview and trend. It is found that in the study of food nourishing in Ming and Qing dynasties, there are few studies on the contents of diet nourishing in the general works. This suggests that when we study the development of diet nourishing in Ming and Qing Dynasties,we should not only study the monograph of diet nourishing and the thoughts of doctors, but also pay attention to the diet nourishing thought reflected in the general works. The study of diet monographs in Ming Dynasty mainly focused on the textual research of wild plants, and the study of diet monographs in Qing Dynasty mainly focused on the application. The study on the health care thought of doctors in Ming and Qing Dynasties mainly focused on the views of food nourishing and personal health care. These studies are summarized in order to provide reference for further theoretical research and provide reference for contemporary research on food nourishing diet. 展开更多

From a perspective of Chinese medicine (CM), persons with unregulated "unhealthy" body constitution (BC) will further develop chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus (DM). Conventional dietary therapy with nutrition component has its limitations in the regulation of "unhealthy" BC. However, empirical evidence supports that "unhealthy" BC can be regulated with food natures and flavors from a perspective of CM. Presentations of "unhealthy" BC types, such as Yin-deficiency, Yang-deficiency and Yin-Yangdeficiency were found in persons with DM. It would be necessary to regulate the "unhealthy" BC presentations with integration of conventional dietary therapy and Chinese food therapy. The ultimate goal is to either stabilize glycaemic control or prevent the development of other chronic diseases leading to reduction of disease burden, such as disease-related poor quality of life, stress of healthcare professionals and the rising of healthcare cost. 展开更多

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of dietary therapy of qi-yin-reinforcing porridge for the alleviation of clinical symptoms during FOLFOX chemotherapy. Methods: A single-case randomized controlled study was carded out. Fourteen patients with gastrointestinal tumors accepting FOLFOX chemotherapy were enrolled using self-crossover control design. On days 1-7 of chemotherapy, the dietary therapy expedmental group and the placebo control group were given dietary therapy of qi-yin-reinforcing porridge and dextrin-prepared porridge which had the same appearance, smell, color and taste as the qi-yin-reinforcing porridge, respectively. Fourteen clinical symptoms, including debility, vomiting and nausea, etc. were observed. Restdts: Ten patients completed the study and were estimable. The qi-yin-reinforcing porridge demonstrated certain efficacy in alleviating clinical symptoms of patients with gastrointestinal tumors during the pedod of chemotherapy. Better effect of alleviating debility was found in the dietary therapy expedmantal group than in the placebo control group, and the difference was statistically significant (Z=2.27, P=0.02). No statistically significant difference was found between the experimental group and the control group with respect to the effect of alleviating the other 13 clinical symptoms including anorexia, nausea, vomiting, dry stool, loose stool, etc. and body weight (P〉0.05). Conclusion: Dietary therapy of qi-yin-reinforcing porridge shows an additional benefit in alleviating debility of patients during chemotherapy and deserves clinical use and popularization. 展开更多

Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)is a risk to maternal-fetal health due to uncertain diagnostic criteria and treatment options.Luo's study demonstrated the efficacy of customized nutritional therapies in controlling GDM.Tailored strategies led to significant body weight loss, improved glucolipid metabolism, and fewer prenatal and newborn problems. This holistic approach, which emphasizes the notion of’chrononutrition’,takes into account optimal meal timing that is in sync with circadian rhythms,as well as enhanced sleep hygiene.Implementing tailored dietary therapy, managing meal timing, and ensuring appropriate sleep may improve results for women with GDM,opening up a possible avenue for multi-center trials. 展开更多

Inborn errors of metabolism(IEMs) are a large group of inherited disorders characterized by disruption of metabolic pathways due to deficient enzymes, cofactors, or transporters. The rapid advances in the understanding of the molecular pathophysiology of many IEMs, have led to significant progress in the development of many new treatments. The institution and continued expansion of newborn screening provide the opportunity for early treatment, leading to reduced morbidity and mortality. This review provides an overview of the diverse therapeutic approaches and recent advances in the treatment of IEMs that focus on the basic principles of reducing substrate accumulation, replacing or enhancing absent or reduced enzyme or cofactor, and supplementing product deficiency. In addition, the challenges and obstacles of current treatment modalities and future treatment perspectives are reviewed and discussed. 展开更多
