Such comparative studies can help learners better understand and overcome the pronunciation difficulties encountered during second language acquisition. English and Mandarin have significant differences in their vowel and consonant systems, tones, intonation, and syllable structures. A deep understanding of these differences allows learners to engage in targeted pronunciation training, reducing accent interference. This research provides guidance for improving language teaching methods, enabling teachers to design more effective pronunciation strategies and exercises based on the students’ native language backgrounds, thus enhancing learning outcomes. Additionally, cross-linguistic studies aid in improving speech recognition and conversion technologies, achieving higher accuracy and naturalness in multilingual speech processing systems. From a cultural exchange perspective, understanding and respecting the phonetic characteristics of different languages help to enhance the effectiveness and mutual understanding in cross-cultural communication. The comparative study of English and Mandarin pronunciation patterns not only provides a theoretical foundation for language education and technological applications but also promotes effective communication in multilingual environments. This thesis uses a comparative research method to elucidate the study of English and Mandarin pronunciation patterns. It begins with an analysis of the characteristics and similarities of the pronunciation patterns in both languages. The thesis then examines the differences between English and Mandarin pronunciation patterns through four aspects: the number and complexity of vowel phonemes, types and distribution of consonant phonemes, tones and stress, and intonation and phonetic phenomena. Finally, based on the comparative analysis of the differences, the thesis offers targeted policy recommendations for learning English and Mandarin.展开更多

This is achieved by preventing cardiac hypertrophy and protecting blood vessels through improving the function of endothelium. However, do these interventions work in the aged human hearts? Cardiac aging is accompanied by an increase in left ventricular hypertrophy, along with diastolic and systolic dysfunction. It also confers significant cardiovascular risks for both sexes. The incidence and prevalence of CVD increase sharply at an earlier age in men than women. Furthermore, the patterns of heart failure differ between sexes, as do the lifetime risk factors. Do caloric restriction(CR)-mimetics, rich in polyphenol or polyamine, delay or reverse cardiac aging equally in both men and women? This review will discuss three areas:(1) mechanisms underlying age-related cardiac remodeling;(2) gender-related differences and potential mechanisms underlying diminished cardiac response in older men and women;(3) we select a few polyphenol or polyamine rich compounds as the CRmimetics, such as resveratrol, quercetin, curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate and spermidine, due to their capability to extend health-span and induce autophagy. We outline their abilities and issues on retarding aging in animal hearts and preventing CVD in humans. We discuss the confounding factors that should be considered for developing therapeutic strategies against cardiac aging in humans.展开更多

This study aimed to examine the regional differences in bone mineral density and factors associated with its acquisition from exercise. Design: The study population included 75 women of 18 - 22 years of age in East Japan and 104 women of 18 - 27 years of age in West Japan. The speed of sound (SOS) of the calcaneus was measured, and the young adult mean (%YAM) was calculated from the SOS. The subjects’ medical history, family history of osteoporosis, and exercise habits were examined using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: There were a significantly greater number of subjects with low %YAM in West Japan. The exercise history and exercise time were significantly higher in West Japan, and the exercise intensity score tended to be higher in East Japan during junior high and high school. A multiple regression analysis by region revealed that the following factors had a significant positive association with the SOS: exercise intensity at elementary school and outdoor sports at junior high school in East Japan;and exercise time at elementary school, muscle mass, and outdoor sports at junior high school in West Japan. On the other hand, exercise time in junior high school in West Japan showed a negative association with the SOS. Conclusions: Regional differences in bone mineral density existed, suggesting a trend toward lower bone mineral density in West Japan. Exercise history and time tended to be higher in West Japan, and exercise intensity scores tended to be higher in East Japan, suggesting that exercise intensity may be more important than exercise time for obtaining bone mineral density.展开更多

The scope of this study was to measure even minor pressure differencesin the anastomosis of TCPC patients, who are clinically uncompromised. Methods: Twenty-four patients(median 15 years [8;34]) with TCPC were studied prospectively by 4D-flow MRI. Pressure differences betweensuperior vena cava (SVC) and extracardiac conduit (C) to both right pulmonary artery (RPA) and left pulmonaryartery (LPA) were assessed. Small fluid obstructions as vortices within the anastomosis were detected by flowpathlines from 4D-flow MRI. In two patients pressure differences were calculated also by computational flowdynamics (CFD) as a plausibility check for the order of magnitude. Results: Median values of pressure differencesin the anastomosis between SVC and RPA were 0.63 (0.21–2.1) mmHg, between C and RPA 0.67 (0.3–2.2)mmHg, between SVC and LPA 0.8 (0.3–2.4) mmHg and between C and LPA 0.7 (0.2–1.9) mmHg. Patients withpotential flow obstruction (stents, occluder, vortices) had significantly higher gradients at the anastomosis (p <0.05) than patients without potential obstructions, although the absolute values were small. CFD- and measurement-based pressure difference showed good agreement. Conclusion: 4D-flow MRI is able to detect minor pressuredifferences within the Fontan circuit even in patients with apparently satisfactory TCPC. Slightly higherpressure differences are due to the presence of small flow obstruction.展开更多

We discuss the confounding factors that should be considered for developing therapeutic strategies against cardiac aging in humans.

文摘Adaptive mate choice has been accepted as the leading theory to explain the colorful plumage of birds. This theory hypothesizes that conspicuous colors act as signals to advertise the qualities of the owners. However,a dilemma arises in that conspicuous colors may not only attract mates, but also alert predators. The"private channels of communication"hypothesis proposes that some intraspecific signals may not be visible to heterospecific animals because of different visual systems. To better understand the evolution of plumage colors and sexual selection in birds, here we studied the chromatic difference and achromatic differences of melanin-and carotenoid-based plumage coloration in five minivet species(Pericrocotus spp.)under conspecific and predator visual systems. We found that either the chromatic or achromatic difference among male or female minivets’plumage was consistently higher under conspecific vision than under predator vision for all five studied species of minivets. This result indicated that individual differences in plumage colors of minivets were visible to the conspecific receivers and hidden from potential predators as a result of evolution under predation risk and conspecific communication. However, males were under a higher risk of predation because they were more conspicuous than females to the vision of a nocturnal predator.
文摘Purpose: Obtaining high peak bone mass (PBM) and maintaining bone mass is important for the prevention of osteoporosis. Exercise history and time tended to be higher in West Japan, and exercise intensity scores tended to be higher in East Japan, suggesting that exercise intensity may be more important than exercise time for obtaining bone mineral density.

文摘Material exchange frequently occurs in gullies, and thus the relationship between a gullynetwork structure and sediment transport potential has attracted considerable interest. However, previous researches ignored the difficulty of material transport from sources to sinks, and did not quantify the connectivity of a network structure. In this study,we used a graph model structure to model gully networks of six typical sample areas in the Loess Plateau of China and quantified gully network connectivity using four indexes:average node strength, accessibility from sources to sinks, potential flow, and network structural connectivity index. Results show that:(1)Reflected by different quantitative indexes, the trends of gully network connectivity in different regions are similar. From north to south, the connectivity of a sample area first increases and then decreases.(2)The more mature gullies have stronger network connectivity.Small resistance is conducive to material transport in the gullies.(3)The node connectivity index of the gully network shows a significant aggregation distribution in space, and node connectivity on the main channel is often stronger than that on the branch trench. These results not only deepen the understanding of the process and mechanism of loess gully geomorphic development and evolution but also provide a reference for geomorphic studies.

文摘Background: Pressure measurement in total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) patients is a domain of cardiaccatheterization. 4D velocity encoded cardiovascular magnetic resonance (4D–flow MRI) offers an alternative forassessment of even minor pressure differences. Slightly higherpressure differences are due to the presence of small flow obstruction.

文摘Urban green innovation(UGI)is essential to environmental protection, ecological conservation, and high quality economic growth.Using green patents, our study assessed the level of UGI of 287 Chinese cities at and above the prefecture level. Then, using the Dagum Gini coefficient, kernel density estimation(KDE),and con‐vergence models,we examined regional differences, distribution dynamics, and convergence of UGI across China. The study’s findings are as follows:(1)Overall,regional differences in UGI tended to narrow, and the main contributor to these differences was the difference between economic zones.(2)KDE showed that the level of UGI was rising, which was polarized within each economic zone.(3)The national UGI in economic zones other than the Northeast and Middle Yellow River Economic Zones featured significantσconvergence, while each economic zone showed absolute and conditionalβconvergence.
文摘Background:Social support is related to depression, but the gender differences and related factors that contribute to low social support among adolescents with subthreshold depression remain to be elucidated. This study explores the relationship between social support and depression,in addition to the gender difference in the incidence of low social support among adolescents with subthreshold depression and its related factors. Methods:A total of 371 Chinese adolescents with subthreshold depression were recruited. All subjects were rated on the Social Support Scale for Adolescents, the Response Style Scale, the Self-Perception Profile for Children, the Individualism-collectivism scale. Results:Binary logistic regression indicated that the stability dimension of cognitive style, the generality dimension of the Cognitive Style Questionnaire, and the social acceptance dimension of the Self-Perception Profile for Children scale were significantly correlated with social support level in male adolescents with subthreshold depression. In contrast, the total score of the Self-Perception Profile for Children scale, the social acceptance of the Self-Perception Profile for Children scale, total individualism, and total collectivism were significantly correlated with social support level in female adolescents with subthreshold depression.Limitations:This study is a cross-sectional study, and its effectiveness in explaining factors that influence levels of social support is limited. Conclusions:The gender difference between low social support among adolescents with subthreshold depression is related to cognitive style,self-perception,and collectivism–individualism.

文摘As an essential infrastructure, the rural power grid is vital in promoting agricultural and rural carbon sequestration and improving rural energy electrification. It is necessary to carry out in-depth research on its comprehensive efficiency.Based on the requirements of“double carbon”and rural revitalization strategy for the rural Power Grid, this paper focuses on the modernization and low-carbon transformation of the rural Power Grid.It constructs an input-output index system for the investment efficiency of the rural Power Grid in China under the new situation. It uses the primary data of the rural Power Grid of 30 prefecture-level cities in China from 2019 to 2021 to evaluate the investment efficiency of the rural Power Grid in China through a three-stage DEA model. The empirical results show that:considering the regional differences, the comprehensive efficiency of the rural Power Grid in backward areas is significantly improved;that is,the three-stage DEA method can more objectively evaluate the comprehensive efficiency of the rural Power Grid.In the context of the continued promotion of the rural revitalization strategy,to improve the comprehensive efficiency of the rural Power Grid,it is necessary to improve the technical level of the rural Power Grid further and appropriately expand the scale of investment in the rural Power Grid.
文摘The issue of the extremely imbalanced gender ratio in preschool teachers has received widespread attention, and there are few studies on teacher-child verbal interaction behavior based on gender differences in preschool teachers. This article takes the“Little Light Bulb Is On”,a scientific exploration activity done by 5-6 years old kindergarten students as an example, and uses the improved Flanders Interaction Analysis System(iFIAS)as a tool to analyze the speech interaction behavior of male and female preschool teachers. The research results indicate that there are gender differences in teacher child language interaction between male and female teachers in terms of the atmosphere, the teaching structure, the teaching tendency, the way of raising questions, and the overall trend of interaction.
文摘Over recent years, our society has plunged into the phenomenon of“neijuan”(in English“involution”,a kind of meaningless competition). And it even becomes a social dilemma that many people are forced to make more efforts to compete for limited social resources. This phenomenon has,of course, attracted the attention of many researchers. There are many researches about“neijuan”varying from its popularity reasons and its trend to its application, but there is very little research about the cultural differences between China and the West behind this phenomenon. Therefore, based on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory, this paper analyses the different manifestations of“neijuan”in China and the West and explores the cultural differences between the two.

文摘Aphis gossypii has become increasingly difficult to manage due to its strong insecticide resistance. In the laboratory,we established sulfoxaflor-resistant and acetamiprid-resistant strains in two A.gossypii populations with different basal insecticide resistance levels, and evaluated the effects of basal insecticide resistance on the resistance development and cross-resistance,as well as differences in fitness.Under the same selection pressure,Yarkant A.gossypii(with low basal insecticide resistance)evolved resistance to sulfoxaflor and acetamiprid more quickly than Jinghe A.gossypii(with high basal insecticide resistance),and the evolution of A.gossypii resistance to sulfoxaflor developed faster than acetamiprid in both Yarkant and Jinghe,Xingjiang,China. The sulfoxaflor-resistant strains selected from Yarkant and Jinghe developed significant cross-resistance to acetamiprid, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and pymetrozine;while the acetamiprid-resistant strains developed significant cross-resistance to sulfoxaflor, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, pymetrozine, and chlorpyrifos. The relative fitness of A.gossypii decreased as the resistance to sulfoxaflor and acetamiprid developed. The relative fitness levels of the sulfoxaflor-resistant strains(Yarkant-SulR and Jinghe-SulR)were lower than those of the acetamipridresistant strains(Yarkant-AceR and Jinghe-AceR).In addition, the relative fitness levels of sulfoxaflor-and acetamiprid-resistant strains were lower in Jinghe than in Yarkant. In summary, basal insecticide resistance of A.gossypii and insecticide type affected the evolution of resistance to insecticides in A.gossypii,as well as cross-resistance to other insecticides. The sulfoxaflor-and acetamiprid-resistant A.gossypii strains had obvious fitness costs. The results of this work will contribute to the insecticide resistance management and integrated management of A.gossypii.

文摘Data-derived normal mode extraction is an effective method for extracting normal mode depth functions in the absence of marine environmental data. However, when the corresponding singular vectors become nonunique when two or more singular values obtained from the cross-spectral density matrix diagonalization are nearly equal, this results in unsatisfactory extraction outcomes for the normal mode depth functions. To address this issue,we introduced in this paper a range-difference singular value decomposition method for the extraction of normal mode depth functions. We performed the mode extraction by conducting singular value decomposition on the individual frequency components of the signal's cross-spectral density matrix. This was achieved by using pressure and its range-difference matrices constructed from vertical line array data. The proposed method was validated using simulated data.In addition, modes were successfully extracted from ambient noise.

文摘Background:The scored Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA)has been widely used to assess the nutritional status of cancer patients. The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in PG-SGA scores and the 7 domain scores of the PG-SGA in male and female cancer patients. Methods:This study was conducted at 72 hospitals from July 2013 to December 2018,a part of the Investigation on Nutritional Status and its Clinical Outcomes of Common Cancers. The PG-SGA was recorded to evaluate the nutritional status of patients.A total of 19,528 patients with 13 common malignancies were included in this study.Student t test and the χ^(2) test were applied to analyze the sex diferences in the 7 domain scores. The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)database was used to analyze the expression levels of symptom-related genes. Results:There were significant sex dfferences in the PG-SGA(P=0.032),notably in patients with gastric cancer(male vs female:9.09±4.86 vs 9.58±5.07,P=0.005)and esophageal cancer(9.64±4.90 vs 10.46±4.96,P=0.011)and the average total PG-SGA of female patients was slightly higher than that of male patients(7.64±4.98 vs 7.77±5.14).The differences were mainly related to the weight, eating, symptom,as well as activity and physical function scores in the stratified analysis.Possible causes of the sex differences were the rates of nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and other symptoms,in both gastric and esophageal cancer patients.Analysis of the TCGA database suggested that most of the related genes were sex neutral, except for genes related to dysphagia in gastric cancer(VEGFC was higher in female patients,VEGFA and VEGFB higher in male patients). Conclusions:There are sex differences in the PG-SGA scores in patients with various tumor types(female patients generally had higher scores than male patients),with differences mainly in the weight, eating, symptom,as well as activity and physical function scores. The sex differences in PG-SGA scores might be due to the differences in the clinical manifestations of the disease, and further studies should be carried out to investigate other factors influencing the PG-SGA scores in cancer patients. This study provides basic data supporting the individualized nutritional treatment of cancer patients in clinical practice.

文摘An autonomous altitude adjustment system for a stratospheric satellite(StratoSat)platform is proposed. This platform consists of a helium balloon,a ballonet, and a two-way blower. The helium balloon generates lift to balance the platform gravity. The two-way blower inflates and deflates the ballonet to regulate the buoyancy.Altitude adjustment is achieved by tracking the differential pressure difference(DPD),and a threshold switching strategy is used to achieve blower flow control. The vertical acceleration regulation ability is decided not only by the blower flow rate, but also by the designed margin of pressure difference(MPD).Pressure difference is a slow-varying variable compared with altitude, and it is adopted as the control variable. The response speed of the actuator to disturbance can be delayed, and the overshoot caused by the large inertia of the platform is inhibited. This method can maintain a high tracking accuracy and reduce the complexity of model calculation, thus improving the robustness of controller design.
